  1. The Presonus ones had less latency than the mbox and tascam units I tried earlier this year... so I kept it.
  2. In network drama series world you do not EVER update software/firmware during a season. The manual syncing is an often performed fix when Resolve and the Arri metadata don't communicate perfectly. which is several times a week on a two camera scripted show. They tested several Dragon and Non Dragon Epics as potential alternate/extra/vfx cameras... and were very unhappy about the TC prospects. Workarounds are not desired, conformity to offsite post workflow is required.
  3. BINGO.. Cross jam attempt on Red Dragon= manual approximate sync, and grumbles from Post on show using Resolve 10 to create dailies
  4. Also, since production claimed this day was "test shooting," rather than a production day means many policy coverages are not in force yet. I have worked to prep many projects as a producer, and the calendar dates and production documents have to be very accurate and detailed to make a claim.. and criminal charges will greatly delay, if not void entirely, insurance policy claim payouts.
  5. My recent experience with the Bolt is that it crippled the reception of an A band Comtek PR75 transmission...I did not have a chance to test other frequencies.. may get to next month cut range from a bst 75-216 thru a phase right to pr75 down to about 15 feet (not kidding, and these were not defective components- we even used RF cable supplied by Comtek). Shut Bolt off.. range goes to more like 100 feet at same location. Have also found it's important to test Preston FiZ frequencies on set, as they will also create an interference zone removing that band of comtek from usefulness. On the plus side, Blackberry handsets shut down Prestons easily.
  6. As much as I applaud the ingenuity of this, it looks so chaotic. Are you not worried about the visual impression you make on the producers?
  7. double check that all the preferences are properly set on the mac and focusrite drivers are current.
  8. Our Fox afilliate here in Atlanta has done this
  9. Time for a complete gear rethink: The gear you take to an environment like this is an expendable. whether you continue with the same types of gear, but rent it, and expect to have a serious insurance claim, or buy more primitve gear that you guard as best you can, is up to you.. I would think about a wendt x4 or SD442 double bagged, with cables (including a bds) glued into the edges of the bag.. ERX's might also work in condoms as hops.. can you battery eliminator rig those? anything you can do to avoid opening a piece of gear is good in a dusty environment. breathing masks for you?
  10. Bob, I know that regional IRS offices can and do rule in different ways. But, as was pointed out above, if you are an IC, and it is approved by the IRS, you are paying a much higher tax in the form of the self employment tax. If you don't mind this, and your regional IRS office has ruled it acceptable, then fine... In my region, we are advised that we are employees, because we are told what to deliver, and where to report, and when.
  11. Elaborating on loan out.. I don't mean as an IC.. I mean as an LLC to process your employee labor checks.. You are in fact an employee, by IRS standards.. But you are also an entity that books labor. making that an LLC can (ask your CPA) help you in this industry.
  12. You ARE a rental house. You are also a loan out company offering your labor. Get contracts to address both, and your life will improve.
  13. network and studio productions have this contract language in the first deal they offer to Steadicam, Special Effects, and Sound Mixers. Many of them also have a contract which states the opposite, and that they are assuming responsibility for repairs and replacements. If you sign this, you will have to live by it, even if an actor drops a tx into the toilet, a producer loses a comtek, or a crew person brakes the boom operator's pole in a collision while carrying speedrail. Last year our team had all of these happen on one show, and if we had agreed to the first contract, we would have been uncompensated. It is appropriate to submit a list of all gear you have along with you. As it was, we were made whole. Got any friends doing steadicam? I bet one of them has the contract language.
  14. I think some guy named Manuel writes all those books
  15. Epic Dragon for C-camera on an Alexa show today.. Yesterday, we had our test day. It would not accept incoming time code from any of our devices. We handed over a slate and told them to make very sure the numbers were in frame and in focus. DiT manually synced the dailies.
  16. Would coating the metal in thick grease help you enough to offset the damage it would inflict on the rubber coating?
  17. We are using the working flux capacitor on our cart. As I am currently the utility for Aron Siegel, CAS
  18. Very amused at the "quick shot" model especially the warnings. Might inspire the first safety meeting led by a sound utility. More likely, would be invited to use more modern portable tools
  19. Jeff, thank you so much for keeping this site up for the community! Happy Birthday!
  20. Pretty sure the OP's show wants to insist on all actors having a full time iso from a wireless link. And that they are likely to whine to the sound dept about the actor's discomfort. Historically, they want to have their cake and eat it too.
  21. any chance on putting the pack on the center of the back of her bra? back of neck and small of back are spots that can very rapidly make body temp go up (or down, if you apply cold). Otherwise.. can wardrobe make you pockets near the hem of dresses (horizontal, not vertical)
