  1. Thanks for the welcome. I actually grew up here (Spring-Klein area, TX) originally and went to Nashville for school, so I'm all too well familiar with the humidity. Sammy - Thanks for the welcome! I believe we spoke a few times on the phone. Brian - I totally hear you on the humidity. That was a great interview with the Mayor of Houston on Colbert! Thanks for the contact info, I'll email shortly.
  2. Hey Guys! I've recently moved to Houston,TX and am looking to start in the business officially. I worked as a sales rep at one of "the usual suspects" and really loved it. I came from the studio side but really want to start doing location sound. If anyone needs someone for anything, please let me know, even if it's just to get coffee. I really just want to get my feet wet.I haven't boomed anything outside of testing gear in the store, but I'm decent at lav placement. On a serious note, I've helped some of the members on this site with their audio needs and I must say it's an honor to be in such good company. Thanks. K.C.
  3. Why don't you get a padded BNC to XLR or TA5 to run the TC out to one of the inputs. Sorry, completely off topic.
  4. This is what I was told by a reputable cable manufacturer. NEVER splice an audio cable together, except in extreme circumstances and only as a quick fix. I know this is just for monitoring, but it's still important to have a good clean signal. There are too many instances where moisture, dirt, wear and tear, etc will eventually make it crackle and you'll wish you just replaced the entire cable in the first place. It always seems to break down right when you need it not to (Murphy's Law). John B has had some luck with it though. What's your secret, John?
  5. Hey Rado, Have you ever heard of Sugru? It may help out with securing cables and adding strain reliefs. It's basically a self-curing pliable rubber that is electrically insulating. Really cool stuff. Feels kinda like Play-Doh and takes 24 hours to completely cure. http://sugru.com/
  6. It sounds like the compander, maybe in conjunction with another bad piece. I'd contact Sennheiser and see what they say. It can be expensive, even for them to just look at it, like $100 on top of the repair. Best of Luck!
  7. I remember being 11 years old in Austin with my folks, waiting for the bats to come out. We were on an embankment right next to the bridge so that when they flew, they'd fly right over us. We waiting with anticipation and suddenly it happened! Everyone around us popped open umbrellas as what looked like millions of bats flew out and over us. Let's just say instead of the s**t hitting the fan, it hit us. BRING AN UMBRELLA! Really cool sight though..................
  8. I had someone tell me about a cable that can turn any Lectro electret Bias voltage up to a usable 48V phantom to power a shotgun. I.E. UM400a - - - CABLE Providing Phantom - - - - - Sennheiser 416. It seems to me the only way to do this is with a series of DC to DC converters, but you'd have to have a quite a few for them to fit inside the cable. Also everytime it runs through the converters, noise is added. Has anyone heard of something like this?
  9. How are the preamps? Are they the same? Did you run it like the 5dMKII and increase the AF out from the Sennheisers and drop the gain on the camera?
  10. "Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll sit on his boat and drink beer all day" Good times.....
  11. If you are buying the ew100P-G3 kit, the plug on does NOT provide phantom power. Just a little reminder.
  12. is there an audio clip of it? I'd love to hear it
  13. incredible...just incredible. I've seen some other programs that claim to do similar things, but none that ever sounded as good. I really like the colored spheres interface too.
  14. Sennheiser GP30's and Sony MDR-110's from Trew. The 110's are like 5 bucks. They were out for a while last time I talked to them though.
  15. It's about how many units some places have back ordered for people on waiting lists. If they ordered a bunch from the get go and haven't had as many pre-orders to fill, then they would of course have some for stock, while other companies who maybe do more Zaxcom sales, are still wading through the pre-order list, in addition to waiting for their already ordered stock units. It's basically a numbers game. And yes, Zaxcom did take a little while longer than expected to get these cranked out.
  16. Hey Geoff, It;s the Switchcraft 761K locking. Trew carries them. $4.88
  17. +1. peanut butter and oreo sandwiches!
  18. This scenario should be just fine. If you were using the App as your master you may have an issue since the App tends to drift (nature of the device). Great idea on the automatic power cutoff with the slates TXs to save juice!
  19. I agree with you completely,Marc. I was talking with my wife the other day and we thought of possibly higher taxes on the companies that have a large portion of their work done outside of the US to act as an incentive for large companies to have more workers in the US. Perhaps Apple would change their minds then........I can only hope.

    Nomad when?

If they've ramped it up, no one is seeing it. And they originally announced it's release date in November. Lectro would of never let this happen......
  21. Nice find, John. You gotta love Lectro's sense of humor!
