  1. Thank you for fixing the filename problem, Take!
  2. Couldn't this just be solved with a software update--another page on the menu to calibrate the inputs?
  3. So they can't somehow overcome the bandwidth limitation in a given computer's hardware and software; they just optimize their interfaces and their firmware to utilize it better.
  4. I'm curious about this. Do you mean that they use USB cables between two RME pieces of gear and achieve a better data transfer rate than typical USB 2.0 would--and so isn't really USB 2.0 at all? Or do they somehow put a driver on the computer that allows the computer to better utilize its USB port to get better results?
  5. I'm still using Tiger as well, but I can't imagine that anyone would seriously object if you had a good reason to lose compatibility with that OS at this point. As Philip Perkins said, those who still want or need to run it can just keep using the older version of BR.
  6. I had a similar issue once (although not exactly) and the problem ended up being illegal characters in one of the fields in the report. Is the report showing up correctly? Are you using an external keyboard? Or, have you tried the obvious of uninstalling the program and then reinstalling it?
  7. Syncing the MOTU to timecode at its 29.97 fps setting while sending it 30 fps seems to me like a brilliantly simple way to get it to record at 48.048. When I first got the MOTU I experimented with this too, by recording pieces of audio of known length in this manner and then comparing the recorded version's length to the original. As far as I could tell, it was a perfect .1% change. Since I just do commercials and video, no one's ever asked me for 48.048, so I've never gotten to really test it either. I know this doesn't help you with the other settings you'll need to change (or not change) in Boom Recorder, but if you're going to do tests with a post house, I would be very interested if you would test this method. Respectfully, it seems as if people who have never tried it are saying that it won't work.
  8. In my experience the Traveler sounds much better, being fed analog line in, after the Black Lion modification.
  9. I made a cable to put two 12vs in series to run a G4 laptop, and it works great. There are actually two seperate conductors in the pin of the adapter where it plugs into the laptop. If I remember right, one, the inside one (the ring of the inside pin), "switches on" the power supply when it's connected to the outer ring. This keeps connector from shorting out or shocking someone when it's unplugged from the computer but still plugged in. Once again, make sure before you do it, but I'm pretty sure it's positive for the tip of the inside pin and negative for the outer ring, and you can just ignore the ring of the inside pin. Good luck with it. --John Bucher
  10. I don't know the solution to the playback-delay-when-on-battery problem, but I think it might have something to do with the internal sound card itself. When I use a Traveler as the playback interface, it doesn't seem to happen (I have the same 1.67 G4). Of course, now you're running down the battery twice as fast. If anyone does find a solution, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks. --John
  11. First post here as a longtime lurker. I just wanted to put in that Boom Recorder does indeed record directly to DVD-RAM. I do it every day (that I work--which isn't that much). It works great, after I finally figured out how to format them FAT32 (you select "MS DOS file format" in the Disk Utility). There was exactly one time when, for some unknown reason, the drive didn't "spin up" in time and the ring buffer filled up, but other than that it's been flawless. Sometimes if I haven't rolled for a while I'll click on the disk icon to "wake it up," but I can't make the problem happen again even if I try. Thanks for the great forum. --John
