  1. I ordered mine from gotham. 1695 each. Took about 2.5 weeks. I am using 2700 mah powerex maha rechargables and get about 5 hours in power roll going from 50mw to 125.
  2. Saw these guys booth at CES this year. They have ton's of ties that work greatfor this stuff. Great find with the application.
  3. If its in a wide open area like a forest I use a solid baffle to bounce the sond away from set. You can use foam core or bounce boards, make a little 4 sided fort around the genny with the only opening facing away from the set. then you can drap furni pads or whatever over it. It works really well when there is nothing around for the sound to bounce back from.
  4. you can wire an sm58 to a lectro transmitter and use it as nun-chuk's if you ever need to defend yourself
  5. I beleive they are called T bars, and usually used atop light stands for still photography. http://www.amazon.com/Odyssey-LTP2-Tripod-Stand-T-Bar/dp/B0002DUWVM/ref=sr_1_1?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1335781649&sr=1-1 this one is quite heavy, but with a bit of searching I am sure you can find a composite stand. The Tbar can probably fit atop any lighting stand.
  6. I just want to point out again, something that has been said a million times before. People that have a problem/issue with something will probably make a post about it. People that are getting along just fine, probably aren't. So the ratio of negative posts VS positive posts are grossly on the negative side. I am very happy with my nomad 8. No major issues and I'd say about 500 hours of run time since January when I received it.
  7. good point. I have not had a chance to do a prolonged test with the light since I just picked it up. I'll post with my findings once I do.
  8. I was browsing the aisle's at my local fry's electronics and found one of these guys for 99 cents. My BDS has a usb port so i plugged it in and worked like a charm. Nice flexible gooseneck light for the bag for less than a buck. http://www.frys.com/product/5421199?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG Mine was like the one in the link, but black. I'm sure you could figure out a way to clip off the usb connector and use a normal BDS or whatever connector for your bag power supply. -Chase
  9. If anything I guess it might effect the smoothness of collapsing and expanding the pole, maybe the collets will lock up? I doubt it will effect the structural integrity of the pole, so long as your not actually ripping fibers.
  10. I take some 1" gaff and fold it into a triangle like a flag (sticky stuff out ofc!). when you got 2 triangles I place a cos11 so the capsule is sandwiched with the capsule sticking out the hypotenues of the triangle. then i sandwhich the sticky triangle between the 2 folds of the button up shirt usually right above a button then smash it together. The cloth cant move, the mic capsule is untouched and uncovered by anything. If you have a bit of wind, i take a rycote undercover felt piece and fold it over the capsule before i put it inbetween the triangles - usually takes care of it. If there is a blazer it is generally OK as the blazer doesn't cover that high on the button up shirt. if there is a tie also I go tie knot (generally)
  11. I have great success with "sticky triangles" for button up shirt scenario's. I have decent success with tie knot's. I have no success with hairy chest's. I really hate the super tight T-shirts that male actors are wearing these days. I almost always have to go over the shoulder following the shirts collar and mount the mic centered hugging the collar's seem so it is not busting out of the shirt like a huge vein. Works well for little cloth noise, but it leaves something to be desired as far as the tone of it (unless they have a giraffe neck)
  12. I am ordering a new case too! Not sure what i'm going to put in it, but I do know it will rock!
  13. When an AC ripped the face off my slate it broke the backlight and made it emit this noise. I have yet to send it back for repairs but It does not effect the performance of the slate (aside from my backlight not working)
  14. I always find myself using google to search as well. Mostly because I can't search 3 letter words using the forums search engine. And we know how many specific term's and products are no more than 3 letters Edit: never mind I just tried using the search function and I can search 3 letter words, has this been changed recently? I could swear...
  15. From what i remember they are working on enabling the tone and Slate option for card tracks 5-8 in an upcoming update.
  16. I beleive the ERX is the exact size of the first Generation Ipod's and Zaxcom reccomends using Gen 1 Ipod cases for your ERX's. I think it's kind of cool, you can find billions of different awesome pouches super cheap.
  17. I have once been called Dr. Evil when i was spotted cradling my rycote in my arms brushing it slowly. (I also have a shaved head). I keep that thing softer than my living cat.
  18. There are a ton of solutions for wind protection for "tube" mic's. It is really dependant on the environment your in. Very rarely (for me, never) will anyone go with a completely naked mic. There usually needs to be enough protection from swinging the mic around the room and that can usually be handled by a normal foam "sleeve", This will also generally be adequate protection against plosives from a speaker who likes to pop poofs of air into your mic when speaking. If you are in a situation with mild air currents you can use a zeppelin with no sock on it. the major upside of leaving a mic in a zeppelin (if you can bear the additional weight) like Eric said, is that you are protecting the mic from falls, bumps, knocks etc... I have definately saved $$$ because the zeppelin took a dent instead of the microphone when it came tumbling down. If your in a uber windy situation, then you have all kinds of choices about what socks to put on your zeppelin. Generally the hair length correlates to how much wind they can handle. But the longer the hair, the higher the maintenance. And if you don't maintain your windsocks and keep them soft and fluffy, they not only won't protect from wind as well, but they will attenuate even more high end.
  19. IMO the BBG is not the right windscreen for most outdoor settings. The experience I have is that if the wind is strong enough to warrant anything more than a softie. Then you will actually hear the wind rushing through the suspension of the mic/mic itself when inside a BBG - Where a full zeppelin protects everything. In less difficult outdoor settings I find the softie less cumbersome and just as transparent as the BBG. As for using windscreens to attempt to attenuate other sounds (asside from plosives), not really going to happen. At the absolute most a super thick windscreen will filter a slight bit of high end. You would do better lessening roomtone in an interview situation by simply laying down a few sound blankets. If the floors are a hard surface, put the chairs the subjects sit in on sound blankets so your mic is not pointing at a reflective surface, that will help a lot right there.
  20. See I think this is really interesting. I am only really interested in insurance for catastrophic full loss situations. Do you ever see yourself in the position where you might just lose one or two pieces of gear? (of course this happens regularly on set but it's covered in L&D... Hopefully) I guess it's one of those situations where I just need to assess If i'm more in the position for a partial loss or a full cleanout. Otoh, perhaps being a cart mixer vs bag mixer has an effect on this. I suppose if a thief broke into your home, they would have trouble rolling your 200lb+ cart out of your house, and just grab a few pelican's. Where bag mixer's can get their entire kit swiped rather easily.
  21. Last time it was discussed was 2010. I thought it needed an update, for example If I only looked in the 2 year old threads I would have never heard about Frenkal @ Associates that Mr. Toy Robot mentioned, so for me It was worth asking because Knowledge is power!
  22. Title says it all. I just want to be protected in case something happens, theft, fire, etc... Whether in my house, car, or location. Who do you use? How much do you pay for what kind of coverage? Have you ever had to use it? Thanks!
  23. My QRX does not have the IFB board if that is to what you are referring. If you are referring to IFB being enabled and broadcasting from the nomad, then it was enabled.
