I used to have a client that required a lot of stereo work… I ended up finding a workflow where I had a normal boom mic with an MS mic just above, so I could easily switch between mono and stereo. I was using it often enough that I had a boompole wired with 5 pin to have for those shoots. Audio post DID find it easier to have me switch between a stereo mic and mono mic, without using MS, but out in the field, it really was easier to have a single setup that did mono AND stereo.

Like someone said above... could not imagine not using them. I have Ambient ones - I have 2 units, and have the newest on the pole I use the most and older one has been relegated to a spare pole. Older one works just fine after many years. R

Pelican 1560 is a nice size... it's wheeled for getting around easily - and when loaded up with an assortment of gear (depending on what you've got in it, of course) weighs about 50lbs so that you won't pay overweight charges for if flying on most airlines. R

I had a similar issue on a production using Tentacle on a C300 and a TS-C slate. Jammed to my 633 , always -1 frame on TS-C, +1 frame on Tentacle. When checked with 633, always showed as being frame accurate. Was so easy to fix, never was really an issue - Never got to the bottom of it though. R

It looks as though they are discontinued now, but a couple of years ago I picked up some Roland MA-15D's http://www.roland.com/products/ma-15d/ on a lark at a Black Friday Sale and have to say I love them. They sound great and I love having an actual volume knob and a headphone input on the speakers, so if you do want to use headphones, there's no need for the 'reach around' that you might have to do with an iMac-style computer. Might be some used ones out there. For travel, I have a Bose SoundLink Mini, and love it, too. Very portable, good battery life, easy to set up. I've heard music played on both the Beats Pill and the SoundLink Color and the SoundLink Mini sounds way better, IMO. Cheers, R

I found that the original screen protector gets dull and scratched which cut visibility, so I cut my own from a phone protector that I chopped down to size... Been working fine on my 664. The kind that comes with the liquid adhesive and a squeegee are the best. R

If this is the only trip you'll be using the carnet for it would be cost-effective for you and the camera guy to put all of your gear one carnet. Saves time at border - only have to stamp one carnet and, saves money - only have to get one carnet. If you plan to do other international trips this year get your own. That, and I second everything said above, like 'better to have it than not'. Carnet's are sometimes viewed as extra hassle and expense, but if you ever cross into a country that isn't a part of the system and cares about what you're importing/exporting... Carnets seem easy. I think anyone with a legitimate question about their charger and oddly behaving batteries (2 going down within a week) should not be attacked for having a 'poor relationship' with his equipment. He knows the age of his batteries, what the blinking amber light on his charger means and went to a dealer troubleshoot it, and, asked on a forum if peers have had similar issues or knowledge of such situations. I think the only one who has a 'poor relationship' with their equipment is someone and their keyboard and the constant overuse of said keyboard and under utilization of the equipment between their ears. Pertol can maybe ship you new parts... Give them a call, or call the retailer. If it needs to be installed, if you look for 'sport sewing' in your area, they can maybe reinstall if stitching is needed on nylon.

I had some great luck with Audio Technica ADH-P3 and P5's. I ordered them sight unseen as replacements for some cheaper Sennhesier ones I'd been using. Was pleasantly surprised by how long they lasted and like the design of the earpads. The earpads were a non-removable type that didn't rip or fall off which seems to be what does in most of my Comtek headphones. Eventually, a director who breaks everything (we all know one of those right?) did them in - all 3 pairs. All good things end. Until I order more. Hard to get here in Canada for whatever reason. R

I hope your Zaxcom firmware build is compatible with the type of bowl and temperature of water used!
