  1. From what I know the Dugan patent has expired now, hence quite a few more machines with it are appearing. Even Behringer are getting in on this: http://www.music-group.com/Categories/Behringer/Mixers/Digital-Mixers/XR18/p/P0BI8 TBH I'm not entirely sure automix is Sonosax's thing either. It was quite funny when Pierre was asked if it did mp3 recording "no, we wouldn't want to degrade the quality"
  2. Here's some thoughts after using the machine in anger with the v2.0 firmware (it'll be v2.1 on release, very soon): http://rtsound.net/?p=501
  3. Can't currently find it but someone did a test (again with the heavy duty) taking the cap off and walking into a river, submerging it. Again it worked once the water cleared out
  4. There should be an automatic file split option in v2.0. I know this because I did a 90min 10ch recording and found it does it in one file which breaks the 4GB max filesize in wav specifications and most software won't open the whole thing.. I found Reaper will open these large files and expand poly wavs (had to use that and split to mono to send to the editor)
  5. Essentially it's a more streamlined version of this?:
  6. I haven't used them yet, but have heard some impressive reports
  7. Thanks very much, Jurg To check when the knobs are in 'fader mode' just to double check, do they mute at zero? Also is the gain altered on the track screen? Does it default to level when you open the track settings?- if it doesn't this could make it a faster operation when track screens are set as shortcuts [push track button, adjust on knob right of screen] best Richard
  8. I think I know what it is- is the MZL cable touching the basket?
  9. I haven't had this issue with my particular WS1 setup (same as yours with 8060/MZL), might be a manufacturing defect or it's been overtightened. Give Rycote a call/email and see if they can sort it.
  10. Well, they should be in a few weeks... It's currently possible to alter their gain range and whether they mute at zero, so it's possible to mix on the machine but you're limited to post-fade isos
  11. Except for the USB (and more AES I/O) the Sonosax SX-R4+ does all that
  12. Only info I've got is on here: "SONOSAX SX-R4+ Announcing firmware version 2.0 with exciting new features: - user interface enhancements - faders (vs input gains) operation - added recording capabilities (24bits, mix tracks on SD2) - 4 channels output upcoming option board support - automatic sound report generation - many stability & performance improvements All the SONOSAX team wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! "
  13. You can route any combination of the tracks to any output. The Mix tracks are just 2 additional tracks that can be assigned internally from a combination of other tracks. The 4 knobs on the front are currently fixed to the gain of whatever's set as the 4 XLR ins (although this should change in v2.0).
  14. You can mix to 2 tracks, but it's effectively on the gain pots (although they will mute at minimum if you set it up to do so)
  15. It's currently not possible to record pre-fade isos or control any levels of tracks not assigned to the xlr inputs with the faders on the front. With the 5pin output and this it should be a proper mixer/recorder. Look forward to the ambisonic monitoring. A format monitoring would be very useful, allowing the dynamic range on the r4+ front end to be used with mics like the sps200
  16. I've found my machine very quiet (mainly used with Sennheiser 8000) both out of the headphone amp and the rushes played back in a DAW 'Out of the box' mine had all channels being routed to headphones. I did have one take more recently thinking "this is really noisy" and it was my monitoring settings as there was an unplugged XLR input with the fader open. May have been either that or the routings?
  17. Any ideas when it's due out and pricing? I asked a couple of months back. Would be handy for a slate mic if anything... I also believe the Audioroot uPre II should be good. It has an A/D converter onboard
  18. Mine's 1165 004301- was a replacement from in May last year, mic was shipped direct from Germany
  19. Mine was replaced this year, it's in the 4000s, first number (batch?) is in the 1100s
  20. Just seen this press release for the new Neutrik Xirium Pro system, which will transmit uncompressed 24bit/48kHz over 5GHz with a 3ms latency. There seem to be Dante, AES3 and 2ch analogue options on TX and RX. I'm not sure on the powering options (mentions a powercon connector) and the size of both the TX and RX are pretty big, however they may be useful for certain situations where running cables may be impractical or impossible http://livedesignonline.com/briefing-room/neutrik-announces-xirium-pro-cable-replacement-system
