  1. DVD-RAMs are reusable, up to 100 times, I read somewhere:~) Why not pass them ( as back ups ) back & forth to telecine? FWIW, I use a Fostex PD204 as a back to a PD606 in a "master/ slave " configuration. Both burn DVD-RAMs in DDR: direct drive recording (Mirroring).
  2. I have to agree with Laurence, this scene could have been managed easily with a 16ft fisher boom, especially with an articulating turret, and a little dollying. I first learned to boom on Fishers, doing episodic TV and have over 7 years experience with them. Many scenes back in the day used to run longer with less "coverage" and they would have been carting out guys on stretcher's if they had to fishpole scenes like this one , all daylong, all week long. To bad you weren't around then Robert to see what this piece of equipment is capable of doing. KKS
  3. I agree that this is would would make a good instructional video for any one who is the practicing the craft. But one observation I have, is that to me, he is making this scene harder on himself by not facing the camera. His back is to the camera and this is causing him to work behind himself. Observe the difficulty he is having keeping his eye on the actors. Facing the actors and camera would be a more efficient way to do this from my pov. The tx on the end of the pole is making this difficult scene even harder to boom, observe the bowing of the pole, as operator has to compensate for the inertia created buy the added weight . Other than that, this guy has an impeccable ability to hit every single cue! Amazing. KKS
  4. Yes, PAL and the Metric system! Kevin
  5. I am doing a commercial with a Canon 5D and it is to broadcast in the Neatherlands, language is Flemish. 25fps I believe for Europe. What do I set my recorder to? Looks like it might depend on the firmware upgrade? Hmmm..... Sorry to ask what is probably obvious, but I get numerically dyslexic, pouring over all this information. Thanks, Kevin
  6. This " Theory of Defineitive Listening " thing can happen to me when ever I hear the song "Jumping Jack Flash" by the Rolling Stones. Seriously!
  7. Gunnar Walter booming a fight scene on the rooftop of an old LA hotel for JJ Abrams "Undercovers".
  8. I would to also the suggest, that if you use a radio mike belt on the waist, thigh, ankle etc. that it is clean. All actors appreciate that. Also, clean the tape residue off of your microphone wires. They will like that to. Study their wardrobe ahead of time, and have good plan in place so that you can wire them quickly and efficiently. The bra is not always the best place for a mic, Sometimes the blouse is better. If the wardrobe is complicated, give just the mic line to actress or costumer, so she can get dressed up and incorporate the wire while she is getting into it. Just ask her to leave the capsule out so that you can properly place when she's all dressed and then attach the transmitter where you have cleverly planned. I wouldn't "talk the process through" to much, as you are invading their privacy enough as it is.
  9. Just want to add that " NCIS-Los Angeles " is my new favorite TV show. The sound is outstanding. Didn't know that Chris O'Donnell was such a fine actor! He and LL Cool J, work really well together. Good casting all the way around. My hats off to Phillip and and his crew. ~Kevin
  10. Hey Jeff, The Milwaukee dolly is primarily made of some kind of nylon and the shelves being plastic make this a very light set up. The pelican case battery strapped to the axle and pick up plate, cradles it, and makes a really good "ballast" that keeps this small cart very stable. Other wise I would put something heavy on the pick up place like a toolbox or whatever.
  11. The web site appears to have gone away. I guess any software updates can be gotten from Fostex dealers. Corporate belt tightening I suspect. I couldn't down load the updates to my Mac anyway. Happy New Years!!!
  12. Thanks Nicole. Chris, the shelves are cut out of a plastic peg board* with a table saw. Home Depot had them. Angled aluminium is cut and secured to the frame with 3/8" pop-rivets and the shelves are held down to the them with 1/8" pop-rivets. The battery is bungee-corded on top of the axle. * they come 18"x18" or so, I think ?
  13. This was put together for a small job and hard to get at location. Didn't need radio mic's for this job, but they could have been mounted on this Milwaukee dolly also. Worked well on this rainy & muddy shoot.
  14. Job number : 2009-0581 https://staffing2.hr.uci.edu/CSS_External/CSSPage_Referred.ASP?ReqKey=51AFAE2F-3056-4EDB-80EC-F6DF5D556F43&AppKey=& This is not related to film sound, but to sound engineers.
  15. Thanks Crew & Jeff, very helpful info. I was just thinking of one of my favorite playback scenes is in the movie " Rain Man " where Tom Cruz is driving along in a convertable (car) and he singing to the radio and changing stations and singing to each song that he tunes into briefly. That had to have been done with a nagra I would think ? as the film came out in 1988. KKS
  16. I guess i'm just curious about how elaborate you would have to get to record a live band, for playing it back for a scene. Would you mic it in a simple manor just to get the overall sound in mono ? with the thought that the song will probably be recorded later in a music studio for use in the final product ?
  17. Since I have never done this, can I impose on you CrewC to tell how you usually go about recording a live vocal w/band for playback ? Perhaps this should be a new thread ? Thanks, KKS.
  18. Thank you Nicole for digging up those early photos. I did design & build the cart after studying other carts of a similar design. The rear wheels are from a "Razor" scooter, they now have knobby tires. the front castors are from a rock and roll type cart and I had to custom fit the 6" electric wheel chair rims. I transport with a '05 Mitubishi Endeavor SUV. I sit at the cart with a shortened directors chair ( 26" seat height ) works fine. Here are some more pics.
  19. 1/4 " p-touch tape looks good Andre, thanks.
  20. RVD, I just want a small label on my comtek rx's mostly. As I am experiencing some confusion with my rx's that get lost or miss placed with the main mixers rx's on shows that I am doing 2nd unit work on (dayplaying ). Not finding much info here. I want the kind I have seen on LSC, Coffey, Audio dept. Wilcox, rental stuff. They are much smaller than 1" x 2".
  21. I'm looking for a way to have my name/address/phone # on a small plastic label to identify my sound equipment and case's . How are you all doing that ? Many Thanks.
