  1. I have gotten them before from grip departments. But have consider bringing my own. I think One of the mixers i have worked with before had one in his trailer. I had considered making a "boombox" apple box. To work as a stand/seat/and personal apple box
  2. thats why you by the surround hydro boom, to get the whole ocean in there. hahaha
  3. i dont think you're listening, more like recording, then when you re-surface you then check out what you record.
  4. When i saw this thread, i thought to myself "Show me yours and I'll show you mine".
  5. Hush heels are very useful, after a few hours they loose the stick, come loose or just fall off. I saw these the other day and they look to be reusable. It comes in 3 sizes. http://www.locationsound.com/silent-steps-heel-tips-10pack-p-1532.html Maybe another tool to battle heel noise.
  6. I stumbled over this and just wanted to share. I had not seen this before, nor have heard no one talk about it on this site. Made by Ambient http://www.ambient.de/en/produkte/ambient-recording/underwater/sd-uw.html I laughed pretty hard when seeing this. Thou On the plus side, It would be fun doing some sound effect recording with some surround hydrophones.
  7. Actually Senator, he has already posted a nice long post on "03 February 2012" in the Who i am thread.
  8. When i boom, i bring: -My personal Sony headphones -Metal Clipboard with paperwork, documents, ect -Tool belt thing. (Flashlight, medical tape, pen, topstick, rycote stickes/under/overcoast) Got this at Lowes, fits in and hangs over the back pocket, then clips onto your belt. Its low weight compared to the Set bag stuff. -Lectro remote phone app -Personal loon boom pole (i sometimes bring it depends on the mixer, and his gear) -Utility Knife -Lectro screwdriver -Breathmints - Soldering iron (Keep in car if needed) Location work, -Low Cut mud boots. (Keep in car) -Rain Gear -Extra shirt and socks -Work Gloves -Hat -Sunglasses -(other weather stuff if needed ) I dont bring any of my Mics or wireless stuff because normally that is in the Mixers kit, found on the follow cart. A lot of boom opt use a boom caddy, or some sort of boom holder on set. Talk Back boxes are great help, that give you a private line back to the mixer. Ifb to listen to the mixer. Attached is the image of the tool belt.
  9. A great foreword from Mark Ulano, page 6. Also good picture of you and everyone else in the "southern hospitality" photo
  10. I use the one lithium varizoom np1 for mixer, lectros, and 702 back up recorder. They power me through out the day, for some larger set ups you may another battery? all depends on how many and of what. But that goes for anything battery. But its a good priced battery.
  11. INV-7 is a great match for the rode NTG-3. Super light and small. Love it. Great price too. like 65 bucks.
  12. Like others have said, we have gone over this video before. Aside from that I wish 3 mins was a long take. Thanks digital cameras, lets roll for 15 mins, or longer.
  13. Id say dont shoot yourself in the foot and give to much away for free. And i also agree on the 3 tier Kit idea above. I will charge different if its just a simple talking head shot that requires double system, than a full double system show.
  14. Thats a pretty cool feature on the arri website. I think every company should create one of those to go through their product.
  15. On a funny note, i cant help but think the hand held shotgun mic would be rather noisy, espically running around without a foam windscreen. Could easily mistake those noises for a ghost. haha
  16. We all know that scary movies, depend on the scary sound design. But heres a movie that sorta has elements like the shinning(large old empty hotel), but also some interesting ideas. Some of the sequences are the main characters recording "evp" sounds with a shotgun mix. Some of the contacts they make with ghost are only heard through the recordings, which are shown in the Trailer. Looks to be some good sound design and an interesting scary movie. http://io9.com/5881465/the-innkeepers-is-a-horror-movie-that-knows-the-scariest-thing-is-a-creepy-sound
  17. I hate when going to see a movie in the middle of the day with no one in the theatre except 4-6 people and the theatre has the volume of the movie set to the loudest. When you have a full house sitting in the room, ok let it be loud, but you dont have to over do it.
  18. I got a call a few weeks ago, to do a Boom/playback gig on a puppet show. They told me it was 4 days of shooting, and 3 days for set up and dance rehearsals. I would also had to supply the playback audio gear. I asked what was in there budget for all of this and they said. "400". I quickly did the math and said thats under 60 bucks a day(57.14 per day which will probably be about 12hr day) Knowning that it was gonna be about 12 hours per day, means i would be only making 4.75 an hour...... I think thats illegal. haha Let alone insulting. Plus to throw the play-back gear in for a free kit rental. No thanks, i could use the 400 bucks but, i think i will sit around and work on my taxes instead.
  19. I say go with the nomad, so you can adapt and be on a cart, or if a job requires you to go off the cart the nomad will be extremely helpful. While seeing how independent movies work, being tied down to a cart can sometimes put you in a pickle. It all depends on what situations you put yourself in.
  20. I thought i heard a rumor they used lav's hidden in the badges. But i'm not positive on this info, could be from another show like ST-TNG. Sweet picture.
  21. Great photos, It would be fun to get the chance to take a class on a fisher boom. Thanks for sharing.
  22. Just for storage, i bought 2 large mail tubes. had some extra foam laying around, cut and glued it to the top lid and bottom lid, then glued the bottom lid shut. For fun i added some red duct tape for a splash of color.
  23. To piggy back on JW's post, you could also look into a modded oktava mic from Michael Joly. http://www.oktavamod.com/
