  1. I had to do this once before. I used a B6 and just popped the mic out of a button hole and stuck it behind the button. The mic was out in the open, invisible to the camera, and free from clothing noise.
  2. Has anyone actually ever worked on a project like this and had it turn out to be something good? I'm assuming, based on my experience, that most of these projects never make it farther then a facebook link. If they don't have money for production, then chances are they won't be able to market the project either.
  3. good luck with the gig. It'll be nice if you posted a sound bite of your recording so we can all see how it turned out.
  4. I did this before and it was nice having a few planes land so I can get the sound just right. However, if it doesn't work out then I would look into royalty free stuff since there are a ton of aircraft sounds available. I might have a few libraries if you need something particular.
  5. I actually made it back to the shop 1 minute before they closed. I spared Frank the time he would've spent waiting for me. However, it was good to know that I had options.
  6. Or maybe we should ask exactly what is on the lunch menu before we decide if the project is worth putting our name on it.
  7. I just wanted to give props to the guys at AD in Burbank. Usually we find the time to complain about shitty service and rarely post about a great experience with a shop/dealer. So, I thought it was equally important to let you guys know how pleased I am with AD. Yesterday I had a gig in which I needed to rent a mic for. When I called AD I spoke to Aaron, who was more then happy to take the time and chat with me about the proper mic for the job. He answered any questions I had and didn't make me feel like his time was too valuable. He was even willing to work with me on pricing since I've rented from them before and I was doing a same day rental. When I've called other places I always feel like the guy on the phone is trying to rush me so that he can finish his tuna sandwich. When I arrived at the shop Frank had my invoice and gear ready to go. I was in/out in a matter of minutes and ready to fight traffic to get to my gig. Since I live an hour away from L.A. I really didn't want to come back the next day just to drop everything off. Frank offered to meet me somewhere after hours so that I can return the items the same day. I know this isn't something they regularly do so it was nice knowing that they were willing to accommodate me. In the past when I've needed cables Drew was willing to make some up for me and have them ready the same day. I know I'm not a big time Sound Guy yet and so its nice going into a shop where I feel like I'm treated like I am. I'm really big on customer service and usually stick with places that treat me right. So, AD has won me over as my "go to place" for my audio rentals. Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with AD in any way, nor did they hook me up with anything for posting this. I just thought it was an important thing to do.
  8. If it doesn't work out can you please send me the producers number. LOL....j/k..i won't be that guy
  9. LMAO!! I think we need to put together a translation list. Ex. "get to work with a really great team" =work with other suckers who we got for free and who don't know any better, yet. "really good food"= expect to work 12-15 hours
  10. Yeah, the client was very happy. I'm glad this situation came up because now I'm motivated to learn post-audio since I'm sure it will help me be a better location mixer.
  11. Shoot, I'd do it for free just so I can hang out with a great team. (can you detect the sarcasm in my post?) This is absolutely absurd.
  12. what would be even cooler is having a link just under our avatar with the recorded sound byte
  13. My 2 year old daughter is addicted to that flick. It never gets old for me either.
  14. I rather see that happen then all the drug related crime continue along the borders.
  15. +2 I see nothing wrong with "responsible use" of marijuana. I once did a reality show pilot that followed a law firm as they defended people charged with marijuana related crimes (possesion/etc.). One of the attorneys said that in his 10 years as a lawyer he has yet to see one case in which someone provoked a fight with another person or beat on their wives while under the influence of marijuana, alcohol on the other hand is legal and one of the main catalysts for belligerent crimes. Go figure.
  16. I thought I'd start this thread to see what you guys felt compelled to do on set one day. I know anytime I've heard the DP say "is sound ready" I've felt like doing this: (sorry, I couldn't figure out how to embed the video in the post)
  17. Great info here guys! I was able to do some of the things you guys mentioned and was able to make the Producer's very happy. Now, it is off to the talent to get their final approval. Sheesh!
  18. I think another issue I'm noticing is that the talent was in a happier mood for the studio recording. So, her tone in my recording sounds a bit more blah..is there a "sound happier" filter I can lace over this?
  19. well, I wish I had the luxury of contacting the other sound person to figure out what he used for his recording. On this job I was told to go to the talent's house to record a V.O. for a commercial. I didn't know till after the fact that they were trying to splice my audio in with something else recorded in a studio...ugh.. For what its worth I learned a lesson from this. I don't have access to ProTools yet so I'm trying to see what I can do in Soundtrack Pro. So far I think I've matched the reverb. Now, I'm trying to get my audio to match the same bass as the studio recording. I'm assuming they used a boom on this one, while I relied on a B6.
