  1. I think a lot of people forget to take this important factor into consideration when discussing rates. Everyone is at different levels therefore what may seem good/bad to you will be seen as good/bad to someone else depending on where they stand in relation to the skills/gear you bring to the table.
  2. Good point. I forgot to mention the cable has a pad in it to drop it down so that I can allow the boom op to use the gain adjustment on the MM1.
  3. Just thought I'd update this thread by saying that my B4B batteries are still going strong. I haven't had any issues with them since I originally bought them over 2 years ago now. In fact, I'm about to order another extra since my bag is about to get even more power hungry.
  4. Poor mans TRX742 that I made. I wasn't able to find my 1/4" to 3.5 cable so it's not shown in the pic. I would use that cable to plug the erx into the "balanced mon in" on the MM1. This way I can feed the boom op my mix and via my Nomad hit the slate button to talk to my op. Since I already had all the Zax gear, and the MM-1, the only thing I had to do was borrow my Mom's sewing machine and whip up the TRX/ERX caddie and order the custom lemo-to-xlr cable.
  5. ..and I also feel that he turns off a lot of people, especially newbies, from posting anything for fear of some "sarcastic/you don't have a clue what you're talking about" type response. I consider myself a very tolerant individual when it comes to different personalities. I was able to hang tight with Mike for some time but up until a week or so ago, when he was picking on Richard Ragon, I decided it was also my time to block him. His comments finally wore me down. Kinda like the Chinese water torture. Anyways, +1 to your comment
  6. I agree. When you look past the smoke and mirrors it's still just an LED. Great tip btw!!! Here's a link to the Ikea one.
  7. That's what I was quoted from a dealer today. They ordered two but may not get them till later this month. Anyone want to buy a couple QRX100's? =)
  8. "In addition, the RX-12 and Nomad combo allows for quick and easy TRX gain adjustments." Will the RX-12 display the gain setting on each TRX?
  9. In terms of technology, and recently according to Stephen Hawking (well not literally but along the same lines)....
  10. You will still see "him" all over the board and on the main page. There's no way around that. The only thing this feature does is prevent you from seeing any of his replies to threads or when someone, that you haven't blocked, has quoted him. Just take satisfaction in knowing that this person most likely thrives on saying things to elicit a response from you. If you break that cycle by not feeding into that then you may just be better off. I think a more powerful feature is being able to block users from seeing your posts. However, I'm sure this would be abused and defeats the purpose of an open forum. Jeff has been gracious enough to extend an open invitation to anyone who wishes to visit his "house". So, I guess it's really up to him what the house rules are since we are ALL just guests.
  11. Hmm, works just fine for me. This site is a whole different experience when you ignore the trolls.
  12. Is the "one unit" that chassis you've been designing? Hmm, I see your point. I thought the weight difference was going to be minimal.
  13. Good question. I just received my Solice Mini last week and haven't had time to research this yet.
  14. I thought about doing something like this a year or so ago. The inspiration came when I was mixing a movie. Almost every day someone on set was being interviewed by the media. While the director was being interviewed by the news I was joking around with my boom op saying, "wouldn't it be awesome if our department was interviewed just like everyone else. In fact, it would be hilarious if we kinda played a stunt on the cast/crew if we had someone come dressed like the old 50's news reporters. You know, wearing those bad ass suits and a hat that had a piece of paper that said press on it. Then they can walk up to the Director, in a 50's kinda voice, and say hey Mr. Director what's it like working with Mr. Miramontes on this film? Would you say his contributions are an inspiration to the rest of the crew? " We had a nice chuckle at this for a little bit. In fact, one of the main actors was hanging out with us and thought it would be a really great/funny idea to do the same to talent. You know, kinda switch the roles for once and ask them what it's like working with such a great sound mixer. I think something like this would be a great stunt to pull and in essence remind everyone, in a funny way, that sound is also an important part of the film . I'm sure it would also be like sound mixer porn for us too since it would be great having a video series with tips/tricks from the big time mixers. Or we can all spare ourselves the effort and time and just watch this dude's videos. LOL
  15. Where are they shipping to and what's the street price? From the pictures it doesn't seem that much bigger then the nomad. I guess I'd be willing to sacrifice weight/size for efficiency and speed. Have any of the specs been publicized yet? I didn't see it on Zaxcom's site.
  16. Any word on the release date? I have another reality gig coming up so any tools I can implement to make my life easier would be great.
  17. Please PM me if you know anyone or look in my profile for my contact ph#. Need someone with a professional camera (no dslr) and maybe a couple lavs. In essence, a broadcast camera op. Rate-negotiable
  18. Damn!!! So, what happens next?? Does ebay help catch the thief? If it were me I would buy them up and "pick them back up locally".
  19. definitely don't try ebay!!! I bought a set when I first started out and to my dismay found out they were Chinese counterfeits.
  20. ^^I run quite a bit of real estate software on it. Unfortunately the real estate industry still revolves around the windows platform.
  21. I've been using Virtual Box for years now and have not had any problems with it. It's also free. I had parallels/boot camp before and didn't like them. If I remember correctly with bootcamp you can only boot up in one system instead of running both at the same time as virtual box allows. Since I have two screens I'll usually have windows on one and mac on the other. Again, works great! virtualbox.org
  22. Another great tip! Thanks for sharing. I was hoping others would also chime in with what works best for them as there really isn't just one way to skin a cat. I think the important thing is for everyone to have the negotiations skills needed to request more money, when warranted, instead of just caving because the Producer is saying they only have X amount of dollars. In most cases they do have more money its just our job to persuade them into spending it wisely on sound.
  23. Hey guys, I'm sure you both know that personal fights are counter-productive to a thread that is trying to be helpful and informative, right?
