  1. "I think this can be better. Some kind of control that's intuitive, not complicated like a single knob" - Crusty
  2. Had many happy years at Molinare tweaking the Studer A80's. Good old days
  3. I totally agree, more things to get setup wrong, I'm going to leave it in for the moment, with big flashing warning in the display if the software sees a miss-match.
  4. Just been checking different breeds of time code, and I found it cross jammed fine. Should I leave it as is, or make sure it can't be done? Thanks martin
  5. I've got a small electronics workshop in southern Spain and I can do little projects. My audio knowledge is pretty good, I fixed Studer A80's for decades. Some pics: Bass guitar compressor using a Thatcorp VCA Accelerometer that puts data into a PAL VITC signal Spacers for something that never happened Mic amp attenuator switch And I can do basic CNC milling Today's little project was a USB interface for a microprocessor, still a bit untidy, about a half day's work for the board layout. It's the sort of stuff that BlackBox Video used to do. Martin
  6. Head Related Transfer Function You need a head shaped lump between the microphones, it acts as a complicated delay between the ears.
  7. Done the first "real" test http://babynetslate.wordpress.com/2012/10/08/the-first-real-test-run-over-night-free-running-jam-mode/
  8. The stereo Bourns pots are pretty good, 1K ohm sounds about right as the comtek m216 datasheet says 10K input impedance. Quite a few distributors handle bourns. I always used these when "professional" was in the spec. My Rule of Thumb for audio, If you want to feed an audio input, you need to feed it with a source resistance that is at 1/10th (or lower) of the load resistance. So 1K is 1/10th of 10k, no worries
  9. It weighs at least ton and a half, I only had 3mm sheet aluminium to work with, nothing thinner. It was really something feel and play with, see if the things fitted etc. I'm just waiting for a couple of quotes from some sheet metal workers to fabricate it properly, and much much lighter I'm not too happy with them, they will break off when it drops, I found a guy with a lathe down the road, so NagraIV(?) style sunk switches maybe The size is 160mm wide, 120mm deep, less clapper, the LED's are about 15mm high
  10. Yep, the jam mode is just a 24 hour clock clocked at timecode bit rate, based on my simple TC gen, the rotary switch just sets the internal very accurate clock to the suitable time in microseconds, say 250uSeconds for 25fps and how many frames in a second for the roll over, I just don't bother to output TC, it's in the software, two or 3 lines of code, but not used. So it would be possible to generate TC. The TC read and Jam code are so similar it wasn't too difficult Indeed, I spent a few hours, just playing with the clap assembly, truly uncomfortable. I'll mill up some bits of plastic, in the shape of my palm, and put some grooves for better grip etc. It also weighs a ton, I only had 3mm aluminium sheet that was of machinable quality. I just placed the connectors and switches anywhere, just to see how they looked, the ergonomics will come next. I'm trying to get the toggle switches countersunk ala Nagra, but I can't persuade my CNC mill to do curved shapes in the Z plane (yet) Martin
  11. It really made me appreciate a good mechanical engineer. I was quite lucky, not a single drop of blood was spilt, nor a drill or milling bit snapped http://babynetslate....one-a-few-mods/
  12. Just done a calibration check on my slate, it seems quite stable at 6 hours
  13. Couple of hundred for getting set up, and lot of time, weeks of going down dead ends, (blowing up chips, my secondary hobby). Power consumption is a bitch, 10+watts, needs fan cooling, but accurate to a few dozen pixels a day . Just playing with a "cheaper version", running off a coin cell, looks interesting. Still doing calibration tests, really boring but essential
  14. It worked beyond all my expectations http://babynetslate....code-generator/ One comment was
  15. Long time unknown lurker here. Just been playing around with this http://babynetslate....012/07/30/main/ I made this little digislate and just added a wifly module martin
