  1. What @codyman and @Philip Perkins said. I've used a thumb track ball before, but I didn't like it. I felt like it was quicker to give me hand fatigue than finger track balls. I've had issues in the past with Kensington's software causing issues, delays, etc. I don't use the software anymore, just the trackball. You can fully uninstall the TrackballWorks software pretty easily to check.
  2. I actually kind of like this. I don't mind the aesthetic of seeing the mics on the table, and they don't block the faces.
  3. I've used Disk Drill with good success before. I bought the license when I needed it and it was worth it. I haven't needed to use it in many years fortunately.
  4. Quite interesting! I was curious what approach would work. I don't work directly with ML models, but am generally interested in how they work. Thanks for sharing
  5. You don’t say where you are trying to hide it that is problematic? And what do you mean by vibration resistant? a few strips of 2” photo black can hold a tx in a lot of situations. Or some Joe’s sticky stuff.
  6. Here’s a practical example of how looking only at specs doesn’t translate into estimating heat output. Both the Zaxcom Nomad and the Zaxcom MRX414 list their current consumption as 300ma, however the mrx414 generates significantly more heat than the nomad, and It’s quite a huge difference in heat output in my experience.
  7. I don’t think you can draw this conclusion about heat just by looking at power consumption. Different circuits have different efficiencies and different resistances to current. Without knowing those factors I don’t see how you can calculate (or guestimate) the heat produced. Please enlighten me if I’m wrong here.
  8. I went a different direction and bought a 4x Voting booth. I had the Rag Place in LA custom make me one with the pin on the opposite side so i can attach it to my cart. Ultra bounce on the outside reflects the heat well, and the black interior makes viewing my monitors a lot nicer. It attaches to a pin on the top of my cart and is just barely big enough to cover me and most of the cart. I sometimes add a tarp on the back to cover the sides and back of the cart in the rain. In this photo at a night party scene, the sides are velcro’d up and only the back is deployed.
  9. I've built a bunch of them. The strain relief is actually quite good if you strips your ends to the right length. Essentially it's two clamps that screw together sandwiching the cable in between. Clamp on the outside of the outer sheath, not the inner wires, and it's pretty tough. I've also built several using multiple mini wires like W3031 or W2901. I wrap all the cables in 2 layers of heat shrink and strain relief on that. I haven't had a single failure yet. Unless you wire the other end directly to connectors, I actually think the splices will be your weak point (and bulkier).
  10. Buy some really old used tape stock and dub the same content to new stock and the old stock??
  11. Impedance mismatch won't be an issue on short runs. Might be more issues if the vga ground pin that you will be using for data now is on the shield instead of another wire, but that's just speculation on my part. I've run AES over lots of different cabling without issues (and sometimes with on longer runs). Like you say, it will either work or it won't, but the audio will always be the same if it works. That being said, DB15 connectors are pretty cheap and readily available: https://www.redco.com/Redco-DB15HM-4-40-or-Metric.html The only thing you'll lose in trying it is half an hour, so I'd go for it. Then report back, cause I'm curious too
  12. Realtek NIC's have always sucked in my experience. I've had several adapters using Realtek that I had lots of issues with on intel macs too. That being said I've done many hours recording Dante on StarTech adapters which use Realtek, so ...... ???? As you point out, the actual Apple hardware performs excellently. It's the Belkin hardware that is low quality, even if they have a deal to sell through the Apple store.
  13. On the long form I've done, concerts, comedy, events, etc. I've had the conversation about genlock, and if I can get to someone who knows what I'm talking about I'm usually told something like "I'll just slip edit it". I don't do a lot of live work, and it seems like slip editing is good enough for content going through post. Long form in not my primary work though, so could just be the jobs themselves.
  14. One thing about motorized faders, and especially in these range of mixers, is they make noise when switching banks. On a lot of sets that wouldn't matter, but if you are setup in the same room on a quiet stage it could easily be picked up on mic. I do love the look and size of this unit, and DC powered on a 4 Pin XLR is killer. Still having to pair this with something like a Scorpio or Deva, I don't see much advantage over a CL-16 / Mix16.
  15. +1 for the lectro batts, they are worth the money. When I transitioned to the zmt’s i started trying both the lectro and fuji batts. The only batts I’ve had fail so far are the fuji. Couple won’t take a charge and some have puffed up which always freaks me out. On the outside they may look like the same design, but the internals, quality control, and testing can very greatly. I seem to remember a post from Larry lamenting about how far lectro goes (aka $$) in testing an QC, and in the 50 or so batteries i keep in rotation it has shown. That’s been my experience.
  16. I don’t get why, if they are going for the bts vibe and showing equipment, they don’t just put the mic where it should be and show it crossing frame? Makes no sense.
  17. This thread got me curious about charge cycle and life expectancy, so I took a quick look at the Inspired Energy and they rate their NH2054 at > 75% capacity after 300 cycles.
  18. I listen for the wilhelm scream in every movie i watch. Such a great random phenomenon.
  19. You already have a good mid level option, so I’d suggest being patient, save your money and get the mic you want. Buy once, cry once. That’s assuming you are planning a career in production sound. Unlike wireless or other items that have to be turned over every so often, great mics can last your whole career and are worth every penny. If you spend your resources on the affordable options now, in the long run it will take you longer before you get into the top end mics that you desire. I believe there is a really good deal on a cmit on here right now if you have the ability to push your budget, and they come up regularly enough that if you save up and keep your eye on the for sale posts you will find one once your finances allow. Also consider renting items as you get jobs while you are building your kit. Early on i rented items I didn’t own frequently until i could save enough to purchase them. It worked well for me to be able to access professional gear quickly without incurring debt.
  20. Just finished a week with 2x S35's. They initially wouldn't take tc when set to Jan sync, but had no issue when set to Regen. Tried both ERX and JB1. Can't say I noticed any more noise from them vs the LF when rolling.
  21. I was under the impression that the remote audio and Audioroot batteries are both made by inspired energy, but I can’t confirm that for sure. I have a mix of Audioroot, Inspred Energy, and Remote Audio and have not seen any quality differences. I can’t speak to the Diety’s, but 2 WH won’t make a noticeable difference. Assuming a 6 hour runtime, that’s about 7 min.
  22. I've always had a good experience with SW. I haven't bought from VK, but I used to work a lot with Ryan Coomer at Trew Audio in LA, and he's now at VK. Might be worth a call if you want someone who understands both sides of the business.
  23. They are fairly set and forget. 1 in to 1 out in most setups. The rest is up to how you want to use it, i.e. analog vs digital etc. What do you want to know that you haven’t been able to find?
