  1. You can also route the card tracks (playback) to the mono and IFB outs as well.
  2. +1 on billing for everything, even if you discount it 100%.
  3. Sorry James, I guess I'm good at braking things. I updated to 1.22 and I'm crashing again. Reports sent. Cheers K
  4. I don't believe so, but it doesn't hurt to try. Ambient provides a wiring diagram for their TC input cables that include a couple resistors and capacitors, and without them it will not work. Take a look at the idevice cables product sheet from ambients website. K
  5. Great photos Justin. Panoramics are a hobby of mine as well. I like the way your gallery is set up, very clean and easy to look through. I've always hated the way Panos show up in my photo gallery, the width is fixed so you end up having to scroll through the picture left to right, kinda takes away from the whole experience. Here's one of mine.
  6. Sounds like an issue with the internal hard drive. Are you SSD or Hard Drive? Might be a good idea to run some drive diagnostics. I'm sure SD can give you more accurate answers tomorrow.
  7. Fair question Marc, Rado is entirely correct. That was the first field job I did with my new Nomad, and since it was a live music performance, I didn't have the option to call cut if anything went wrong with my gear. Even without the Nomad, in this situation I usually prefer to run 2 recorders, in the past using my old Fostex FR2 & 552. I only recorded the room mics onto the 552, and recorded all the isos, plus a mix track on the Nomad. I've been doing docu type work the rest of the week, and I used the nomad by itself with no issues. K
  8. A few years back I spent 9 months travelling through asia with a mini disk player recording all the random conversations I had with people. Recorded a bit of great music while I was there too.
  9. It's true, I've been using my Nomad all week, and never thought twice about it. I'm back in my studio now going over the little things, making sure I know the unit inside and out, and I suppose as Jeff said, it's more of an academic quandry trying to understand some of the engineering behind the scenes. Rado, I'll be doing some RF scans and comparisons with a 744 and Nomad tomorrow using my block 21 and 24 UCR411s. I'll post my results and photos. K
  10. Rado, you are saying I should ignore the trim level and trust my meters? I can do that. Do I still have the same gain range on each channel even though the trims are set differently at -20? Thanks K
  11. Ok, immediately after posting this, I realized where the card tracks gain was coming from. I had the card limiters turned on with 3db of gain, so that answers my second question, but I am still confused about the different trim levels. K
  12. So my job last Monday went well. One thing came up while I was setting up that has had me thinking. I was running the direct outs of my 552 into the line inputs of my nomad. Using tone from the 552, I set my input levels and noticed that each channel had a different trim setting. Setting the input meters to -20, my channel trims are: -6, -8, -12, -14, -15 With the same tone going to each input, I would expect the trims to be at the same level, but with each input meter showing -20, the trims are as stated above. Are the trim controls arbitrary and not linked to a specific amount of gain? Also, with the inputs showing -20 my card tracks show a higher level. my inputs are routed pre fader to the card tracks. Is there a pre fade level setting somewhere that I'm missing? K
  13. The manual does state that the Nomad should be powered off before plugging / unplugging a mic, but that seems rediculous. Turning off phanton power is a best practice, and smart, but why should I have to power cycle my recorder just to unplug my boom? Anyone know what's actually causing it?
  14. James Looks like 1.21 fixed my crashes. Your turn around time on these fixes is amazing. Thanks for all your hard work. Kelsey
  15. I did have mobile data enabled, although to think of it, I may have had gps turned off. Although I was using mobile data at the time, I did have a couple of connection errors, so maybe that was the whole problem. I'll check again, update to 1.21 and update. Thanks for the quick response. Although not the highest on my priority list +1
  16. Personally I quote equipment prices according to the jobs requirements, not what I own. What I bring to do the job is up to me. That's one of the benifits of being an owner/operator, as opposed to say an AC, who has to work with whatever camera the DP and Producers decided on (just an example). My base equipment fee includes mixer, 3 channels wireless, and boom. If they want more wireless, IFB, camera hops, ISOs, etc... they have to pay for it. I start with my base package and add on the additionals that production has requested. Again, this is just my approach, but it seems appropriate. I'm not a rental house, I'm a sound mixer. I'm being hired to complete a job, and I bill what I think is neccessary to complete the job. Then I bring what I want to use to do that job with.
  17. Hi James, Thanks for the update and new features! I'm really looking forward to it. I'm having some crashes after updating. You've probably got a bunch of crash reports waiting for you. It seems like it works great until I enable to TV preview. Thanks K
  18. Maybe you and I should start making boom poles? It's a simple groove and channel that stops the rotation. I wonder if the difference is that Gitzo makes their own tubes, and other manufacturers buy tubes already made? I don't know if that's the case or not, but there are several carbon fiber tube manufacturers, and buying their existing tubing would be a lot cheaper than custom spec'ing ordering tubes unless you can do the volume that Gitzo does.
  19. I worked on a feature last summer where my TOD TC slate was a couple minutes behind the 1st ac's watch, and the DP asked me if I could sync them up because he uses the slate to make sure he's on schedule during the day. I'm TOD unless otherwise asked.
  20. +1 My first pole was a gitzo, and although the last two sections are too skinny for a coiled cable to work well, I loved the fact that the segment never twisted against each other. I was dismayed when I started using other poles and found out they don't do that. The single thing I don't like about my ambient poles is the intersegment twisting.
  21. I've always wished my 552 inputs were on the right instead of the left because I boom with my right hand back more often then not. It never bothered me much crossing my meters with my right hand though.
  22. I plan on it as soon as I have time. To clarify, I do see a little more RF than with the nomad off, but it seems similar or slightly less than a 744.
  23. Per request from the client. The recital was in her living room, and I wasn't allowed in there during the performance. I was actually required to setup upstairs to be out of the way. I don't get it, since there were two cameras running around, yet I'm not allowed to be seen, but the client insisted, and I was charging for everything so I'm happy to accommodate her silly requests because I still got great audio. 24. I agree. I think a lot of nomad discussion has turned into nomad panic. I've had my 552 and 788s freeze on me as well, but I still trust those units completely. Just like I trust my nomad. Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
  25. Mine came with an aerial, and doesn't sit that well in my bag which was made for the 552. I haven't figured out what I'm doing about a bag yet. I only got one battery sled with mine, a second would be nice. Guess I'll just share it with my slate.
