The main advantage of using something like a Bowtie vs. a 1/2 wave dipole would likely just be more surface area on the Bowtie. But like it has been stated, getting your antenna up and out of the bag would likely be more effective.

I think there’s still enough of a market out there for people using the 788 that would love to have an app for it. I still use mine, I know a few people that do, and I know that abroad lots of folks are using them. But I think you’d have more of a demand for an iOS app than android overall.

Beverly Boy is notorious for being a less than reputable company. I recommend avoiding them at all costs. Google them and you’ll discover some of their other blunders.

When I first bought my 633 my first fader would do that sometimes seemingly unprovoked. Then it just stopped, even without updating the firmware. Hasn’t returned since.

I’ve never used any of their mics before so please excuse my ignorance. But I feel like even though their mics are apparently excellent sounding, it seems like everyone I know that has any of them are always frustrated by having to get them serviced at their headquarters and it taking an unreasonable amount of time. Is this true or is this just the impression that I’m left with by hearing it any time this company is mentioned? If it is then I would guess that a modular system used in the field by a brand known for needing service rather frequently seems like a bad idea. But I’d like someone with more experience to weigh in and set me straight on this matter.

Unfortunately I don’t have any info on the attachments. I came up with the idea of using the pelican and a friend offered to build it out. They had the parts lying around, and I don’t know what they’re called or where they came from. It is anchored to the hand truck with ratchet straps. I should also note that this particular hand truck can fold into three positions, which makes it handy for loading. In its middle position, it allows you to stack other cases into it which I have found useful for when you have to get from a loading zone to your destination with extra cases. Do note that this setup is actually very heavy, and loading it into your vehicle requires ramps and sometimes help!

I have this same system and a few different bands. I didn’t find anything particularly satisfactory. So I removed the suspension rings and bought some new Rycote lyres and MS grip, and super glued it together. Works great.

I’ve never had this issue. I suggest reaching out to Sound Devices to see if it is an issue that they are aware of.

Actually since the markets in both LA and NYC are so over saturated, unless you’re doing big union jobs or high end commercials, most of the time they pay lower than out of town. It’s a common joke amongst those of us outside those markets to get a producer from either looking to crew up with locals and say “I can get xyz in LA for this rate”
And of course they bring in everyone but sound from LA and they think they’re going to get a discount from a local lol

I’ve spoken with a lot of mixers all over the country, consulted many rate cards, and as of 2023 most people are charging $500/day for a basic package, that includes a mixer, two wireless, and a boom mic. Everything else is à la carte. Also most people are billing their day rate on a ten hour day instead of a 12. National average is $800/10h. Let’s make this normal.

In terms of which brand to get, well the saying goes: you get what you pay for. I don’t think Diety would be much of an improvement from what you already have.
if you have been reading this forum you’d know that transmitters that record simultaneously are illegal in the US because Zaxcom holds the patent, so only they can do both in the US. If you want to get around those restrictions you’ll have to purchase outside this country.
Most retailers are sold out of Wisycom because of the high demand and difficulty in sourcing components, as mentioned often on this forum.
Regarding frequencies, a quick google search found this document: https://www.apwpt.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/handoutfrequencies2020.pdf
It does not list every country in the world, but it may or may not be a list of all those with restrictions. I’m sure it would be a simple matter to research an individual country if you need to be sure.

While shooting a western, there was a long scene where the lead was riding a horse and the director wanted the hoof sounds. Results varied depending upon the terrain but I think he wanted the classic hoof on cobblestone sound but we were mostly on dirt, so a lot of thumps. Got some decent leather squeaking sounds and spurs tho.

I’d say that as long as you’re staying in the Rode/Diety world you’ll still find yourself wanting to upgrade. When it comes to pro audio, you get what you pay for.
