  1. Thanks folks. Very helpful pics John Paul
  2. Same experience. DP was asking why I needed to crank it up that much. Giving me the feeling that it is not usual for that cam - which he owns. Cranking it up was all i had time to do. I later noticed that sending tone at -10 was not registering 10dB higher on the camera than when I sent tone at -20. I tried sending at various levels and none of the results on the meters matched the changes in level of tone. Scratch...
  3. Got it - the i1015 Although it is bigger than the ERX there doesn't seem to be a smaller case that fits. Also it has a 3.5mm socket. Perfect!
  4. Does anyone know which model fits the ERX? I'm looking to add a shoe to the bottom for mounting on a cam. And then I'll add a mount to the top to replace the mount I'm occupying. ERX 2TCD will live inside and I will figure a way to rig a cable through. This way the ERX is rain-proof, and the switch and 3.5mm connection won't be interfered with, and the whole thing is sturdy enough for the cam op to mount more stuff to. Or if anyone knows of a similar box...
  5. When you say their normal stuff, are you talking about a different TrekPak product? Cheers
  6. Has anyone used these? Would love to hear some reports. If they are reliable, they would make a very versatile system. http://trekpak.com/rollipak-48/ http://trekpak.com/rollipak-72/
  7. We had the "c" or compact preamp sent out to us on a shoot. We found that with moderate wind, and also the generator (albeit very close to set) would render the mic unusable. Sounded like the LF was saturating the pre/capsule. Very disappointed after much anticipation. No time was was wasted in sending it back IIRC. Would love to know that this is not the rule but perhaps a freaky unit.
  8. they look like the straight variety, rather than the right angle variety, but thanks
  9. Despite using an RA SMA adapter, I still had to replace the cable assembly between SMA and motherboard. After that I superglued the mounting nut of the SMA output to the Nomad chassis. Also, each limb of the RA SMA should spin freely with respect to the other. However, I found that when attached, the free limb had finite turns before reaching a 'stop' point where it grabs the other limb. Turning the adapter back the other way would then loosen the adapter. Adding a washer between Nomad and adapter has fixed this. The washer is some kind of plastic-y paper, found it in my toolbox. The antenna, when added, sits VERY flush against the side bar of Nomad. In fact the sidebar puts a teeny bit of pressure on the antenna. Not enough to damage it - just enough to keep it in place Later i will add some kind of rubber band to keep the adapter pointing up.

  12. I'm looking to replicate the RA 3.5mm found on the Senny HD 25 1-II cans. Although I would need a non-moulded variety. This is to replace the moulded straight jack which the HD26s came with. It still needs to have locking threads on the outside, so that my 1/4" adapter will be interchangeable between all my cans. It needs to be right angled for space and because the cans will live on the left side of the Nomad bag and plug in to the right side of the Nomad. Anyone know a part number or likely source?
  13. Thanks for taking the time to explain Larry. I'm with you now.
  14. Thanks John. I am new to RF stuff and that L-Com link and the Digi link made things quite clear. Confused about this statement though. Will revisit this in the morning with coffee.
  15. Yea, I noticed the same thing. Which is good news for my future antenna setup Really lookin forward to trying out those stubbies
  16. I contaced Zaxcom this week to ask them about the gain in their 8" stock antenna (so that I could get a replacement with equal/better performance) and they told me there is no gain in that antenna.
  17. I've recently purchased a few options to move Nomad's zaxnet antenna to elsewhere in the bag. I then noticed a post from Glenn stating that, an antenna with a ground plane should be chosen if extending. (post 11 here) Firstly, what problems could occur when extending an antenna without a ground plane? Secondly, Is there anything in the specs of an antenna that will tell me if it has a ground plane (besides overtly stating it)? I have looked at many antennae over the last few days and haven't seen this mentioned. For the record, these are the items I bought (some of them thanks to Tom Visser and José Frias) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-4GHz-5dBi-Omni-WIFI-Antenna-SMA-MALE-for-wireless-router-/290848539329?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:IE:3160 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-4-GHz-5-dBi-Omni-wifi-Antenna-BNC-for-wireless-router-/300479593163?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:IE:3160 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290607815327 http://www.ebay.com/itm/U-fl-to-BNC-female-with-nut-pigtail-cable-/330313219623?ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:IE:3160 And a pair of these (although these will live directly on Nomad and QRX 235 if used) http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en?x=0&y=0&lang=en&site=us&keywords=931-1119-ND
  18. Superb! Ordered a pair of right angles. Thanks.
  19. Has anyone got a source for very small antennae for Nomad zaxnet? I've seen pics of people using something like the Ambient Beetle antenna, but I can't find it sold separately. THanks
  20. Has anyone discovered a very small light Tx with decent-ish range? I'm thinking for mounting on a pole handle with a PTT
  21. Hi Peter, Just PMed you there. Thanks. I don't expect to find many people here who have filmed in Armenia. But if anyone knows of a resource that might list it.... I have tried the usual suspects, such as Ollje's google doc. And plain googling of course.
  22. Hi All, I will be shooting a documentary in Yerevan, Armenia (and London). I would love to hear any advice re wireless in these places. Any blocks to use/avoid in these countries? I will be using Zax radios (and maybe some old G2/G3 for off screen translator) Any help much appreciated
