Started with music production then worked on a friend short film, when he ran out of money. The film won several award internationally, then it never stop from there. Not much schooling and experience in production or post sound but I just winged it, sticking to the basic and it worked...so far.
  1. Thanks so much for the reply. I am working on a gig in Vietnam and the work flow here is insane while it is fun at the same time. Production sound is at the bottom of the barrel of important. I kept telling the Producer that if I have to sync the daily then it is another contract altogether. The funny thing is, it was the editor who told the crew it was my job because it has "sound". Ok enough said, thank you so much for your inputs
  2. need your opinion. Just going over the new contract about to sign when I notice a small clause saying that the audio Production team has to sync the daily?? the contract is for production sound or location sound. I thought this job is for the assistance editor? please tell me iam right? thanks
  3. Still there on the project. Lectro wireless bl 26-28 have no problem, Senn wireless G-band is the best. Bring your own power sources and never buy battery in Vn, 99% is fake. Charger etc. should handle 210+ V. Usually international production should have a Vietnamese liason to handle all the paper works for you but on the same note, make a complete list of your gears and their value. Media production gears are tightly considered state sensitive. Beside that, it is a great place to work, pple are friendly and Vietnamese crew are very eager to learn from international contractor. Other than that you can Email me for specific stuffs Have fun
  4. Hi admin, This not a commercial plug. I just want to thanks so much for this forum. The folks in here r truely pro and the info I get from here are honest and shoot from the hip. They are the most helpful in every aspects from gears to technicals. As a newbie for production sound, my back ground and education are mostly from music production. When opportunity come for me to get into the film side, iam almost lost and the only thing I found was stuffs from the video guys, until a friend recommended this forum. Awsome works and dedication admin. Thank you again and absolutely appreciated. Jt
  5. Lectrosonics wireless is not in the budget, so I have been using the G2 wireless and they served me well. Friend recommended the Senn AS1 antenna splitter to help with the receiving signals. Anyone here use it? I appreciate all suggestion. thanks
  6. New job coming in March shooting a feature in Thailand and Vietnam. I want to get a couple of Lectrosonic 400's wireless Lav's. Wonder if anyone here have experiences in what block # work best for Pacific asia? thanks
  7. Thanks, i had decided to build this setup on a cart while on a set of shooting a cooking show at the chef's own kitchen. Not much moving and the crew had given me my own space right behind the director monitor setup. Right now I am thinking USB controller but wonder if MOTU CueMix can be use with a USB controller and which one?
  8. Hi, have anyone use a Mac Mini with a Traveler on location? I plan to use Metacorder with a controller for fader? any opinion on the setup and what would be great to controller the faders? thanks
  9. It's a no brainer for me, once I'd made up my mind that this is what I love to do and to make a living. I usually dedicate as much as I can handle what I get on the current job to upgrade something on my gears, be it a better cable, power distribution, bag or a better mixer etc. By making a plunge to upgrade last time, made me work, and learn my ass off . Be it that next job won't come until awhile it give me time to learn and create better workflow for the new gears plus even expand my job search and techniques. We all have our own dream setup but logical then work toward it. I hate the day when someone ask me to handle a job with specifications that i can't handle, you can just see feel opportunities slipping away... Typing some where in Asia jungle with humid 100 degree weather in the sun on a month shoot.... so what this is what i wanted to do and love. In my opinion plan it well and GO FOR IT!
  10. Location sound available with experienced crews and gears for film/tv/doc works in Vietnam or neighbor countries. 4 to 6 tracks recording with lav. and Boom operator. Location film mixer setup also available. we also available for post work with studios. We also available for travel work. Please contact duyproaudio@gmail.com
  11. ...yeah, it is a double edges knife. You just have to chance it in some situation. By tipping, they will or may think you have something bigger to hide then it is a bigger mess. Funny but in most Asian countries they pick on harder with an Asian American like me then a caucasian dude. Stupid sometime but I am learning as I go.
  12. Just checking into Vietnam last week with my gears. The custom reminded me that this is a socialist country and my gears considered "media" sensitive gears and may consider for un healthy propaganda. They (custom agents) made me lay all my gears out and threaten to confiscate everything. I almost went ballistic, then I noticed with all the threats no one proceed to take my gears but kept taking my passport, gave it back to me then take it again a few times. I proceed to slip $40 into the pages of my passport and wait until they take it again. On its way back to me, the passport, the custom agent added that this will be a warning but he will be nice a let me go this time. I gathered my gears up in a mess and got out of the airport. Crazy but tense!
  13. Thanks Marc, the Motu Traveler is nice but that an additional piece of gears. I am thinking of the Mackie 1220 which has direct out put per channel via DB25 and firewire card. small enough of a mixer with enough inputs for lav and boom. I don't have enough experience with Time Code input but can you explain how to achieve Time Code input via analog track? Newbie. thanks
