I now have my XY mic rigged up in a blimp ready to roll on atmos whenever I have the chance. As someone who spends half his time in post it is great to get some "real" sound to match in rather than relying on the same old "atmos CD" tracks you hear over and over. I am sure we are the only ones who notice but I think it makes the end product so much more believable Chris

Got a call from Glenn at Zaxcom today...
Chris McCallum replied to Alex Mitchell's topic in General Discussion
Glenn called me in Australia prior to me placing an order for my Nomad 8 to clarify issues which at that stage of production would have required me to send the unit back to the States for upgrades. He wisely advised me to hold off for a month until Zax had rectified the issues. All of that based on some posts I made her at JW late last year -
I will be at Lemac from 10-11 tomorrow for their EOFY sale with my Zaxcom kit if anyone wants to say hi and have a coffee

equipment rates on my website?
Chris McCallum replied to Geoff Tirrell's topic in General Discussion
Listing your gear on your site will help it and you be found if someone is googling gear hire for a region. If your intent is to hire out extra gear for shoots you want to come up well in a search. I often lust new equipment in a blog page on my site with links to my equipment page and it works well as a draw card from Google -
How much wild/amb stuff does post actually use?
Chris McCallum replied to Jesse Flaitz's topic in The Post Place
I just spent 3 days on a shoot recording nothing but atmos tracks. The script calls for no dialogue but the director wanted ambiences to cut into each shot. I used my rode NT4 XY stereo mic to capture the ambience of each location so I am hoping for their sake that the files make it through to post! -

Ambient ACD 301 RF or Denecke TS-3EL with a syncbox
Chris McCallum replied to Robert Li's topic in Equipment
Robert talk to Ross at Lemac Sydney he had bothe the Ambient and the Debecke in stock when I was there on Friday. I have the Ambient and it works beautifully with my Nomad rig but everything they say about teaming the Denecke with the ErX is true as well. Lemac are planning an end of fin year sale where you might save some $$ as well- 26 replies

Seeing more flat offers of $xxx dollars for 12 hour days from some of the bigger production companies here and I decline. I counter with my standard rate for 10 and often I am told the job is unlikely to go for more than 10. My response to that is to quote my OT rate after 10 and stick to it. 12 hour days are not a healthy thing to be agreeing to in my opinion

I have just had a Rode lav fail on me with zero warning. Used it successfully one day, packed it neatly and carefully in its little peli case, unpacked it and plugged it in the next day and zero output! Unscrewed the head and reseated it, plugged it into a different transmitter but nothing. Not even a crackle! I have them hard wired to lemo so it should be nice and secure at that end. Can claim under warrantee but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this happening? Chris
