  2. The Spring issue of the 695 Quarterly is available on line. http://www.local695.com/Quarterly/
  3. The JoeCo uses the old PS2 keyboard input. I purchased a Microsoft cabled keyboard from Amazon. I only enter the Roll # and reset the 'take' number at the top of the day. After that I do not mess with the metadata. I never hand in this material, it's only purpose for me is as it's name says, "Blackbox Recorder" - only for a 'short between the headphones' moment (i.e did not roll the Master recorder). They are also being used on reality shows and some sitcoms. Perhaps those users will chime in on their protocol with metadata. The JoeCo only records to an external drive. I use a WD 1Tb USB drive. The machine has been working wonderfully for almost 2 years. A 1 rackspace backup recorder.
  4. Boom Recorder seems to always work. I used it as my backup from 2006, right up until last year. Now my JoeCo Dante Recorder does that. If I remember it correctly, it was you, Jeff Wexler that introduced us to it.Thank you. Take is always available. I was in Morocco on a show in 2006 and I had a few questions for him. He responded almost immediately and even created a version for 48.048.
  5. sat·ire ˈsaˌtī(ə)r/ noun the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.
  6. Mark Hensley, AKA "Henchman", called Mirror a "rightwinger". Mudslinging, even during a water shortage.
  7. The Pix and 970 write the files at the same time. So if the files are on the SSD, then you have a corrupted CF card. How old is the card? They do wear out over time. I know you all like to blame DANTE, however this seems to be a media issue. If it records to the internal SSD, and it plays back, how is this related to DANTE??
  8. The Winter edition of the 695 Quarterly is available online. http://695quarterly.com/
  9. The site David suggests lists them as: Quarter Turn Retainer Latches
  10. Unfortunately I will not be able to make it this year as fortunately I will be working. Best to all.

  12. In June of 2013 I posted, requesting that Zaxcom consider Dante. I'm thrilled that it might be in the "Deva 32", sometime in 2015.

  14. The Cinema Audio Society By Laws have always had more Rerecording Mixers represented than Production Mixers. These By Law changes eliminates the non-voting positions of "Alternatives" to full voting Board positions. This increases the size of voting Board members, and the ratio stays the same. The organization was formed in 1964 by Rerecording Mixers. It wasn't until the 80's that Production Mixers were allowed into the organization.
  15. You should contact the Cinema Audio Society office: CASOffice@CinemaAudioSociety.org with your request. However they will not give you any of Skip's contact information. They will contact Skip privately and let him know that you are attempting to reach him.
  16. Yes, I used those babies in 1979. I had four of them and used to set up the receivers on a baby plate and place the C stand as close to the actors on the set as possible. If you did not have an external power source they consumed a bucket load of 9 volt batteries - I think they took 6 each to power the receivers. The photo attached was not my set up - it is pretty cool however.
  17. I always make it a practice of checking with the software vendors first, i.e. Audinate and Avid before any OS upgrades. So Jeff, a big thank you for doing this for me, Scott and everyone else!
  18. I'm waiting for several reasons as I expect bugs to show and fixes to arrive there after. I am also holding off as I'm not sure how it will affect Pro Tools and Dante software.
  19. SKB manufactures in the city of Orange. That's as close to L.A. as you will get. When you say "shallow" what is the depth you are looking for? Here is one of many 8RU SKB cases available. http://www.skbcases.com/music/products/proddetail.php?f=sku_rack_space_units-8-80&id=140&o=&offset=&c=80&s=80
  20. No slot for DANTE card - no sale.
  21. I'm trying to understand how watching any film in a theater is going to give you a clue into a: the amount of ADR and b: why ADR was necessary. How can you be sure that what you are hearing is in fact "ADR"? Perhaps you are hearing Alts, or a different EQ set? You really shouldn't be able to discern ADR unless it is a terrible mismatch in audio quality or in the final mix. Given the skill set of both Production Mixer; Steve Cantamessa and the Post Sound crew, you probably suffered the same way Courtney did; a poorly executed film that took you right out the story and onto nit picking the final mix.
  22. Just a final pitch on Susan Ottalini, she came down to my set and measured the entire cart and we discussed my needs, in regards to custom flaps, opening etc. I don't think she'll make the trip to N.M where you currently are, Phil. But once back in L.A, its worth it for you to let her at least take a look, measure and give you a quote - her costs are far more inexpensive than you would think. Good quality and she'll even make changes or repairs if needed for free!
  23. Their website is filled with links and contact info. http://www.oscars.org/research-preservation/resources-databases/index.html http://www.oscars.org/science-technology/council/index.html http://awardsdatabase.oscars.org/ampas_awards/BasicSearchInput.jsp http://www.oscars.org/awards/academyawards/index.html http://www.oscars.org/academy/history-organization/index.html The Board of Governor's Names - just call the Academy to contact the correct person for information. http://www.oscars.org/academy/history-organization/governors.html Finally you can get an accredited Press Pass to access the Academy's Press Releases, Photos and get interviews with Academy personnel. http://presslist.oscars.org/fmi/xsl/ampaspubs/main.xsl The Academy loves to self promote itself - I'm shocked you felt their website got you no where? BTW, why contact the website, for once, the Senator is correct - just call them! 310-247-3000
  24. Love you Jan! Your honesty, self reflection and willingness to learn and grow are your hallmarks. I've always felt that WE are the set psychiatrists. As Sound Mixers we hear just about everything and are keen observers of the interaction in all departments. We should have couches bedside are carts and offer help at $100/hr. Yes, as Dennis said, "Never fuck anybody you work with." The guy or gal PA you mess with, might be your next Producer or Director!
