    Zoom F8

I would consider this a weakness with the Tascam unit. It is rugged - but not enough for tossing out a window and not as rugged as the USB pre2. But it does sound better than the USB Pre 2. It has a warmer, yet detailed sound - more like an expensive outboard studio mic pre. Tascam originally made this unit to sell for closer to 4-5000 dollars. Now that they are selling for perhaps as low as $1200 - it is a lot of great electronics for the money. I probably should not be posting it, because maybe I should buy that second one so I can have 16 track recording of live bands.

    Zoom F8

There is a Tascam HS-p82 MINT on ebay for $1200 starting bid (not mine by the way). I can only assume due to the F8 coming out. But I have an HS-p82 and I have to say, I am skeptical. Why? Because the HS-p82 mic pres sound better than the Sound Devices USBpre 2 that I had. In fact they sound superb. I assume it is that the HS-P82 is not as compact that is the issue. But if someone is interested in high sound quality - I would think someone would check out that one on ebay - or more that may be following suit.

    Sonosax SX-R4+

Do a pair of these link up (cascade)? Also - is there still special pricing since obviously it took them a while to get them out - and how long does that pricing last?
  5. I would like the 680MKII (not the original 680) compared to the Zoom. The 680MKII can also be cascaded.
  6. I have both blimps. They are the same dimensions from what I can tell (In fact I have the old extension on the new blimp because I am using it with the Rode NTG8 mic) This should be possible.
  7. Any info on how long the internal battery would last before a recharge or replacement?

    Sonosax SX-R4+

What is the powering situation on this unit? Why kind of batteries and what kind of battery life can be expected - let's say recording 8 tracks? THANKS.
  9. It depends on what you are using the blimp for in the field. For me, with nature recording, the Rode Blimp is just fine. I don't care about the weight because I am not moving it around much. As for the sound quality, it is fine. I actually like the windjammer better on the Rode than the Rycote. For people running around with these things, the Rycote makes more sense if you have the money. I had just recorded a windstorm with a pair of Rode Blimps and it worked great.

    Nagra VII

This is great news. Please let us know when it is in stock. THANKS.

    Nagra VII

Is it manufactured in China like the LB? (I believe the VI is made in Europe). And any idea on pricing? Availability?

    NAB 2013

What is going on with the Nagra 7? How many inputs? Features? (7 would seem unusual - so I hope it is just meaning a later model.)
  13. It depends what you are doing. For you boom guys, I would go rycote. But for me, in nature recording, where my blimps are not at the end of a boom and are stationary, the Rode is just fine. However, I am interested in upgrading the Rode Blimp with the rycote lyres. I also like the "dead cat" better with the Rodes than the Rycote. Plus for the Rycote is the lighter weight, variety of sizes that can better match the mic, and the lyre suspensions Negative on the Rycote is the price and the dead cat (at least compared to the Rode's deadcat).
  14. Thanks Miles. I do like the humidity handling of the Sennheisers. I just got a couple of 8060s that I will be checking out. Audio Technica usually makes great mics for the $$, so I was hoping they would apply that to the shotgun mic world. THANKS, AB
  15. Thanks Miles. I want it for nature recording and it appears that it may be a little bit to noisy of a mic for that. How was the audio quality? THANKS, AB
  16. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/649606-REG/Audio_Technica_BP4071L_BP4071L_Professional_21_Long.html Hi everyone: Anyone have any experience with this mic? Any comments? Sound Quality? Reach? Rejection? Quiet? Noisy" THANKS, AB
  17. It is great that they are posting updates. Any chance that 96k sampling rate capability will be one of them coming up soon? (Sorry I have not read all the posts on this unit.)
  18. Am I understanding this correctly that with the CL-6, there will be six mic inputs and six line inputs for a capability of 12 ISO tracks (I assume the other four tracks are mix tracks to add up to the 16) THANKS! This is exciting. I hope the 700 series updates are right around the corner.
  19. Also - check out gearslutz.com for this type of question. A lot of people are loving the new MK22 capsule (between cardioid and wide cardioid) on the Schoeps. I would love those for instruments. And I forgot to mention, as a lot of these guys know on this forum, if you go with the Sennheiser 8020 omnis - it will be better in humid nature settings, and of course, it is a less costly mic.
  20. Omnis are great. Also there are wide cardioids which I am really loving (Have a pair of DPA 4015a mics). Anyway - if money is a problem - the Sennheiser 8020 matched pair is very good and about $2300. The DPA is awesome for super clarity - almost no coloration - but I would get the 4006a (make sure there is an "a" at the end) - because it will allow you to just buy capsules of cardioid, wide, etc. later. - cost - about $3900 for 4006a set. Schoeps are great - a little more color than the DPAS - but lots of people love them. - I believe closer to about $3400 for a set. If you go Schoeps call Craig at calistromusic.com Best to you, AB
  21. I am confused. Is the original post about the SUPER CMIT ? ? ? Somehow I think it switched to the 5U. I have been interested in the Super Cmit for a while, so I would be curious to know if people are experiencing problems wtih them. THANKS.
  22. Thanks Peter. I will contact them. In regard to the paper test mentioned in my original post, I am not sure how important this is for foam on shotgun mics. I have only been using that test on expensive LDC mics. But if I had a lot of the foam coming off as dust on the white paper, when rubbing the foam over the paper, I would want to know if it is going to hurt the performance of the mic (i.e. affect the mic diaghram), before using that foam a lot. Best, AB
  23. I ordered a couple of these today: http://www.coffeysound.com/Sanken-CS-3FW-Foam-Windscreen-for-CS-3e.html I am still interested in the Koala (I believe it is size 3 that fits the cs3e) - if anyone knows where they are IN STOCK in the U.S. THANKS, AB
