Sound Devices claims the USBPRE2 is like the pres on the SD744t. Is that possible with just 5 volt powering from a USB port? Also, do you think the keyboard USB port on the Zaxcom Fusion can power it effectively? THANKS in advance. Best, AB
  2. I wrote to Rycote - and they wrote back with the most detailed response I have ever received from a manufacturer. They also said they would replace my windjammer if it continues to shed. Actually, I think the shedding has stopped for the most part. I used them today in a fairly good wind, and they did really good. I am very impressed with the Rycote company and customer service. They indicated that they work working on a FAQ based on my concern.
  3. FWIW - the 8070 seems to have A LOT of Bottom end to it. I know spec wise it goes a little further. But I do not trust specs. The problem is that it is SO LONG ! ! ! Had to use the Rycote extension. Quite a bit hotter output than my Rode NTG-3s that I had. Anyway, a rich sounding mic. I know it is an 8060 thread, but the 8070 is related (I think they are brothers?)
  4. Interesting. I wonder if they upgraded it at all? Both of mine were bought new about a month ago and were really good in high wind. I do agree that they are heavier - but since I was doing nature recording without a boom, that did not matter to me. So for the boom users out there, maybe it is not that good a choice. Thanks, AB
  5. I just sold both of my Rode Blimps. So since I am not selling one, and since I own two Rycotes, I am wondering why people do not want the Rode Blimps for their MKH8060 mics? I thought the blimps were excellent - they just did not fit my 8070s. Best AB
  6. You would think that if we can put a man on moon, that there would be a safe windjammer thickening shampoo.
  7. Thanks. All this time I thought it might be EXUVIATING!
  8. I have written to them and am waiting for a response. I have two of them. They are new. Is it normal for them to shed some fibers when in contact with them (i.e attaching to soft clothing?) THANKS, AB
  9. And no one has mentioned a good dog vitamin? http://www.dogvitaminsupplement.com/dogshedding.html
  10. I notice that the windjammer on my rycote blimp sheds A LOT more than my rode blimps. Any suggestions? If I combs it a lot, would it stop? Or would I lose too much of it? Any advice?
  11. MKH8070 fits in a Rycote 8 kit with a number 4 extension. I have two of them.
  12. 8070s arrived and they sound GREAT. (Looks like I might have to sell my Rode NTG-3s now). Just a beautiful sound - that is all I can say.
  13. I will. I am hoping for some nature recording. But it would be nice if it stopped raining. I have a pair of 8020s, and just recorded a 12 string with them, and it was the best recording I ever had of my 12 string in many years. If I was going cardioid, I would love to check out the 8040s. I know the Sennheisers cost less than the Schoeps and the DPAS, but that does not mean they are not as good or better, depending on the situation. I know I like my 8020s on acoustic guitar (including 12 string) better than my DPA 4011s. Though it is not really a fair comparison because they are really apples and oranges when it comes to their patterns. (A DPA 4006 would be a more fair comparison). And the DPAS are awesome mics (especially on grand piano). Best, AB
  14. Well - I have two 8070s on the way. Will hopefully be recording with them this weekend. While this is a 8060 thread, perhaps there will be interest in how the 8070 sounds. Best, AB
  15. Problem is - I would want two of them! And I am not that wealthy!
  16. Definitely something I thought about. What would it be like hooking up to a Zaxcom Fusion? And of course, it is fairly expensive. I wonder if two of the new Sennheiser 8070s would give me more options for less money. Cheers, Alan
  17. Thanks Fernando. Actually, I have yet to find a quiet enough place that allows me to hear the noise of the Rode. It is really not my complaint about the mic at all to be frank. The new Sennheiser 8070 has a fantastic noise spec. I was really drawn to the Sanken as I understand that the rear rejection is very good, but then I wonder about its inherent noise. At the same time - for environmental recording - am I actually going to find an environment with less ambient noise than the Sanken? I am rambling a little. But the bottom line - is so far I have not found the perfect shotgun mic for nature recording at any price - thought it may be the Sennheiser 8070 (though I wish it was a little shorter just so I could use the shorter blimps). What do I mean by perfect? The following: low noise, great sound quality, can withstand high humidity, moderately bad weather, has great rear rejection, is not fragile, etc. (I don't ask for much Best, Alan
  18. I am really looking forward to these mics. So I will be interested in hearing about how soon they are available, especially because some dealers have told me it was more likely this summer or fall. I have a pair of Rode NTG-3s for nature recording. But I would like something with a longer reach, and at least as quiet. Less sound from the rear of the mic (because of either traffic or a nearby river/stream) is helpful as well. I am also considering the MKH8070 which should have a longer reach. (though I wonder if I should just pick up a used MKH70 and forget about the new one). If there is something else I should be considering, please advise. (My first post here and I hope I am not hijacking this thread) Best, Alan
