  1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm thinking: personal belongings = no customs fees. Of course, if you were to show up with 50 brand new (fill in any product here) in factory sealed boxes, it would appear that you are bringing things for the purpose of re-selling.
  2. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=tascam+701d&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma&Top+Nav-Search= At below $600, perhaps one shouldn't expect all the bells and whistles of a $4000 machine. Just saying'...
  3. I liked these, and they worked great for a little over 2 years - then I got the intermittent problem described above (and all over the "a series of tubes"). This is the kind of thing you would expect with sub $40 headphones, but it's pretty lame for a pair at this price-point IMO.

  5. Shot with one of these for the past two days (along with 2 C500, which are a separate story altogether yikes!). Theres some new quirky thing in the settings menu with the frame rate, TC - and a separate Hz setting. It took a jam just fine after all was set correctly.

  7. Choosing headphones is a very personal. Opinions vary widely on this. Not only for the sound, but also fit, isolation, on- or over-the-ear etc. Best thing to do is try a few that you think you may like, then make your decision. There have been several threads on this here in the past. Some of my personal observations: Many people like the Sony 7506 - I do not. They have a pretty significant bump around 10KHz… gives me instant tinnitus. Also the ear pads fall off if you drop the cans on the floor. Can of course be remedied with the Garfield softies. After switching to Sennheiser HD-25-ii I felt they were an improvement in terms of both sound and isolation compared to the Sonys. Of course, they have their own quirks - intermittent connection after varying amounts of time for various users (also discussed here before). For me they lasted a little over 2 years… yes, after the warranty had expired. Ultrasone are also popular, and some highly respected mixers on this board have reported that they are happily using them. I tried a pair, but probably the wrong model… or perhaps I did something wrong because they did not work for me at all. The problem for me was that everything sounded great. Too good. Counter-intuitive? No, stay with me. If I pulled up any song - it sounded great. I tried them with some work in progress music project that wasn’t mixed yet - sounded great too. Tried changing some EQ on a bass track, and there was no difference in sound even when cutting or boosting up to 6dB around 300 Hz, which made me double check if I was tweaking the right channel (yes, it’s happened to all of us at least once, admit it!)…. but I was on the right one. So weird. For the past few months, I have been using Beyerdynamic DT-1350. The version with a coiled cable. These took a little getting used to at first, but now I absolutely love them. Very good isolation, light weight, feel rugged - and flat sound. YMMV.
  8. Thanks Jeff, yes certainly a lot more info there.
  9. Looks like a possible cart recorder...? One rack space. Madi/ Dante, smpte, word clock I/o etc. 64 tracks of 24/48 or 32 tracks of 24/96. http://news.aesshow.com/2015/11/tascam-da-6400-captures-64-tracks-in-single-rack-space/
  10. FWIW: Avid is now offering a (IMO) pretty good way to upgrade to PT 12. I was still on v9, which meant $199 to upgrade to v12, including any updates/upgrades for one year. I believe that if you are on v11 (maybe also v10?) the initial upgrade + one year of updates is $99 right now until Dec 31. After that year, you can choose to “subscribe” for $99/year to keep getting any upgrades. Or, you can choose to not subscribe, instead stay on the version you have at that point and keep using that as long as you want. They also throw in the guitar amp sim plugin Eleven. My story: I am on a Mid-2010 Macbook Pro (2.66GHz i7, 8GB RAM). I’m waiting to upgrade the machine until Apple puts the new Intel “Skylake” chips in the MacBook Pro (the latest upgrade of iMacs did get these, so likely in the beginning of next year, according to speculations). I am not currently on any projects that require Pro Tools, so I figured I’d give it a try (besides, the upgrade gives you the licenses to run v10 and v11 as well, so I would have the choice of going back to one of those in case of problems - or if I landed a PT gig, meaning I’d be taking no chances). So… In a moment of madness, and in the sprit of “F it, let’s try and see what happens, I also went ahead and upgraded the OS to El Capitan. *** DISCLAIMER: I do not recommend, or in any way advise you to do the same, as Pro Tools is not yet qualified/supported by Avid to run on OS X 10.11 El Capitan. This is especially important if you rely on Pro Tools for work. *** My findings so far with limited testing: Everything is running smoothly.
  11. Holy shit ! Mirror is a female producer ---- AND you work together!?!?
  12. From what I understand, the C pre-amp is different - not simply a B pre-amp minus the filter/shelf. Anyone with experience using/comparing both who would like to share/elaborate?
  13. I really do not see any connection between your products, (which myself and many others here use on the job) and this toy karaoke mic set. I think what everyone was having fun with, was the thought of using this on a TV or movie production.... would you? Personally, I am not judging this product solely based on it's price. There is absolutely no "cutting something down" or offense intended at all, just having a little fun. I really hope you stick around and keep posting on this forum and I look forward to see what you come up with in terms of future products.
  14. I'm sure it's great. It even comes with a aluminum case and one-unit dashboard thingy . But... be warned: http://www.fixya.com/support/t7462846-kitty_wireless_mircophone - I would like to take this opportunity and point out that I also completely lack any sense of humor.
  15. Eneloop Pro lasts about 8 hours in SMQV, so fully charged in the morning, and swap for fresh ones at lunch - no problem.
  16. The 5 cm Supersoftie is now available online. Robert, I would love to hear your opinion now that you have had it for a while! Or, has anyone else here used one with the MKH50 and would like to share their opinion? Thanks!
  17. If you mean something that will display TC on a tablet, there's Denecke TC Toolbox. Ambient has one too, both free from the App Store. You will need the right cable to input the TC signal (available from the usual suspects). I've done this on iPhone/iPad and I imagine Android would work about the same. TC source needs to be left connected as the internal clock of phone/tablet will drift quite a bit. Also, there is a lag of a few frames on the phone/tablet display, but close enough for logging, scripty...
  18. I would definitely be interested in something that could work with my 664-Stingray.

  20. They are the same. One difference; with free run, if the TC gets lost due to powering down more than two hours, it will revert to 00:00:00. That way you know for sure, but yes, as long as the blue light is blinking, it should keep the clock going either way.
  21. Number of Mic pres and faders seem like a non issue, since OP mentions a 442 will be used in front of either of the two recorders. FWIW, for $1000, I would pull the trigger on a 744T, even if I don't need one right now.
