  1. Cory: " they aren't the official place to get product information and therefore don't reach all users... " Field: " What a novel idea. " Rado: " I visit the zaxcom forum almost everyday and upgrade to the latest betas on all my ZAX gear. If I find something out I always report it to the facebook zaxcom group. "
  2. Constantin: " The difference in sound is clearly discernible. " this calls for some proper blind testing, and perhaps another wager... for starters, we could ask our post folks here, if they can tell, only by listening, what the tracks were recorded on..?
  3. Constantin: " Are you sure this is true? " as sure as I am about that SPL thing... actually, I cannot be certain that it applies 100% throughout the entire world, or universe, but typically, and in the USA, labor laws deal with employees and employment. Thus "Independent Contractors" are not normally covered by labor laws; for example, a true IC could work 8 hours personally, and then send in the B team to finish the shift, or perhaps work the long shift, and have the B team report the next morning... that is IC. OTOH, ICs and Professional Corporations (Doctors, Lawyers, etc) fall under a whole lot of other laws...
  4. to begin: you are not supplying nearly enough information for "us" (at least for me) to do more than guess wildly at your issue; and since we don't know you, we have no idea of your experience or capabilities; Shure wireless mic's are extremely popular, and hugely successful all over the world, though relatively uncommon for our sort of production sound (for pictures) use. you could easily have any one (or more) of a large number of potential problems including wiring, gain-staging, broken, operator error, etc. etc. Now I'm guessing your troubleshooting skills are not strong, so, perhaps, get an experienced working professional to assist you. with a little reading and searching on this site (or even other sites) you will find my frequent suggestion: contact the manufacturer...
  5. welcome, and wired wrong, maybe even broken ? Shure even sells some Countryman products under its own SKU's.
  6. Orion: " If they are violating labor laws who do you contact to enforce this, or is my only option to quit? " every jurisdiction has some sort of "department of labor" (typically you must be an employee for labor laws to apply), and in the USA there is OSHA... there are a couple of set safety APPS now, as well with pertinent reporting information.
  7. RR: " Why.. exactly " because you are in denial...
  8. ET: " Someone please explain how a small audio recorder infringes on the patents of a wireless transmitter with a built in audio recorder. " I believe that is exactly what is being discussed... lawyers could tell you (us)... actually, once the patent is issued, it is no longer kept secret as during "patent pending"...
  9. field: " Could a replacement be manufactured? Generally, What is the charge for a once over/ tuneup at the shop? " probably, and who do you think you should ask ?? ks: " Just ordered my first TS-3! Super excited. " don't wet your pants...
  10. thus, it is more about the archers, than the arrows, and what the archers are paid does not necessarily indicate the archers' skills
  11. Constantin:" and maybe a wager " wager first!
  12. Lan: " If they want decent sound, tell them they have to pay for it. " so you are saying that for the last two years, simicycle hasn't been delivering good sound, but that if they raise his pay rate, it will be better ?? once again: there is no causal relationship between the sound and the pay-rate., just as there is not a consistent readily and clearly discernible difference between the sound carefully and properly recorded on a Zoom, and the sound recorded on a NAGRA or CANTAR., and, in fact improperly recorded on one of the expensive machines there could be a noticible quality issue!
  13. JP has expressed one of the many, competing POV's, however he shoots at his foot with " may use 100 channels of wireless, but I can be a few blocks away and use the same frequency. " wich refers the FCC to the "good old days" when they allocated a handful of wireless mic frequencies on pretty much that basis. it is really complex, with lots of $$ for lots of entities at stake, and we are the really small potatoes, but will be luck to ride the coattails of the churches, concerts, shows, etc, and the largest manufacturers of wireless mic's (whose products we rarely even consider) like Shure, Sennheiser, and Audio Technica who sell huge volumes of wireless mic/IEM products to the power users.
  14. Borg: " Not sure why, but I'm assuming that a producer doesn't want to actually bother with the hiring process, or just doesn't value the sound department as much as the DP perhaps. " assuming is your problem: you are spending way too much time and energy on this, and by now you should have figured out that CL and Mandy are not the place to find quality DPS gigs. The low-no budget bottom feeder probably typically don't know better (but I'm not obsessing over it), and they have a dream full of unreasonable expectations, and worse, they want you to dream it with them, and for them. Producers (real producers) often make a lot of calls for crew (among other things)... real directors may too, and in many professional cases it is the UPM (or line producer) who calls, and really often, deluged with resumes of all sorts, from folks at all levels (BTW this applies to actors, too) they have someone call and pre-screen who the executive will actually speak with personally. In "real productions" they are weeding out the newbies, the wanna' bees, the under experienced, and not available. In the case the the CL Mandy folks, they are weeding out anyone who isn't available, or won't do the gig for their price. (yes, it is as simple as that!) again: The folks on the phone have a $$ amount set, and are not interested in any more than if you are available and will you do it for my price; they may, however ask you to throw-in the Comteks. and they will frequently tell you how important they believe getting good sound is...(so much for assuming!) grow up and deal with it... IOW get over it.
  15. field: " Why double display? " TC and UB at the same time ? preset info in one line ?? 2 different TC's (Rec + PB) or especially: to have the directors name flashing in lights! you could contact Denecke, CP may know something, although it could also be a home-brew (aka DIY) ...
  16. Jaymz: " No, the video is about the fantastic work of the sound effects editors and recordists. " exactly, and thus about the mix and its potential issues... " Not the decisions made in the final mix " IMO you cannot separate them in considering or discussing the two "separate" topics... but frankly, that probably isn't even worth discussing! the other thread is :" Does Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar' Have Major Sound Mis Issues? " typo ? mix issues ?? yep, I think they are essentially the same discussion....
  17. simi: " His writing style, however, does come as close as possible to calling someone an idiot without actually doing so, therefore I call semantics. " Baloney If I were calling you an idiot, it would be completely clear to you, and everyone; and I put my name on it, too!
  18. Scott: " Zaxcom you're not making a friends. " so you are saying that Zaxcom is wrong for asserting its ownership of something it not only invented, but also took the time, effort and expense (!) not only to invent and perfect the IP, but then took the further TE&E to patent..? How would you feel if it was your creation that was involved ?? Constantin: " Tascam isn't making any friends with this " I disagree with this, as well... It really seems that TASCAM did not knowingly and deliberately infringe on Zaxcom's IP; so far, since it was courteously brought to their attention, TASCAM has been straight up front in properly dealing with the situation. I am sure they will either reach a fair licensing agreement, or modify the products as needed.
  19. Omaha: " Today only (Sunday, November 23rd) the Tascam DR-60D for $129.99 " you must be a major user of these, as there are 3 separate posts... I would guess few of us folks here are particularly interested in upgrading replacing their SD & Zaxcom stuff with these......
  20. JP: " The people I've worked with have all been very fortunate in their accidents. " maybe the productions have been fortunate in their accidents (say compared to "Unclaimed Freight"), but anyone getting into any accident as a result of lack of proper rest is not, IMO, fortunate...
  21. Lan: " I get the feeling that a full stadium would be much more problematic. " why ?? and I do full stadiums frequently...
  22. C: " Yes, really " nope... but, maybe want to put some Euros on that ?
  23. this might go good in the appropriate discussion thread about Interstellar's sound mix..?
  24. mulluy: " saying things like, "you know what would make your life easier in post and save you money, wireless hops," " that rarely works well with the bottom feeders who have a $$ amount set, and are not interested in much more than will you do it for my price; they may, however ask you to throw-in the hops... after all, they will make your job easier, and otherwise they are just sitting there...
