  1. as a rental house, our policy is to erase the drives as they get returned from the field. but yeah, take responsibility for erasing sensitive materials in advance peeps.
  2. its possible that the last line was no different. its also possible that the rest of it was.
  3. there's no reason to complain IMO. people that have no clue will either eventually get a clue or will retire from the biz. When you sign on to a production as audio lead you're taking on all of the responsibilities of that role. In well-run operations there is constant communication, as well as leadership. Your job as part of a production is to participate in that communication, not to wait for it. Your job as an audio lead is to step up and take some responsibility for how things are coming together. I hate these "people are idiots and I'm the greatest" bitchfests that I see in audio forums all over the internet. They do the profession a disservice.
  4. I live in Dallas, so its 3 hours from me. Didn't realize it was 5 from Austin.
  5. Austin does the most film work in the State, but there's tons of production that also happens in both Houston and Dallas. There's also a strong film market in Shreveport which is just a few hours away as well. Lots of corporate work, lots of reality TV, lots of TV spots between those 4 cities. In my experience outside mixers are very rarely brought in. When they were shooting network shows like The Good Guys, Lonestar, and Prisonbreak locally they were using local mixers for all of that stuff. Austin's a beautiful city that has grown much faster than its infrastructure has. Traffic sucks there, sixth street is great, the university is great, the crowd is diverse, and there are trees and hills everywhere. No state income taxes, no audio unions, Texas state school board is pretty wacko, cost of living is moderate but not cheap in Austin. bottom line: its a beautiful city, you could make a living, but you may have to do a fair amount of driving to really max out.
  6. mine is 100% audio from the time of the recording. I may do a tutorial at some point on my sync process. its a little complex.
  7. nice! that second one seems more designed than the actual audio sped up. what was your technique?
  8. I love timelapses as well. For the next level challenge, try syncing audio up to it in post.
  9. have you had a discussion with this student since? what came of it?
  10. Don't get all pious on my now Mike. The title of this thread is "Tales of the entitlement generation" It's certainly not "how can I help this kid?" Your second post is this: You're doing everything you can to trash this kid, not help him. I'm certainly not going to defend his work or his actions in this case, but then I wouldn't defend yours either.
  11. he posted a direct quote from the a document that the student wrote. that student would surely know exactly who he was talking about if he saw this thread. This thread is pretty easily indexed on google. I did an 30 minutes on this type of thing on the last tonebenders podcast we produced.
  12. Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee This entire series is just spectacular with regards to comedic content, but the audio is also incredibly well-produced. The Sarah Silverman episode in particular has some kickass convertible on the highway with the top down banter.
  13. Agreed with others who say this isn't the forum for calling out students. Entirely unprofessional as an educator IMO. There's more than one teachable moment here.
