  1. Tubigrip looks like a nice alternative to Neopax...I am not sure but when I look on the internet it seems that the tubigrip will stick to "itself" and does not need velcro.
  2. Hello everybody, I currently own some Neopax waist transmitter belt. And I receive a lot of complain from talents about how hot and how sweaty they get using those belt. I live in a tropical island with 90% humidity and about 86 degrees F° all year round. Anybody has other solutions from other brands? Versaflex makes some breathable wait belt but they seem a little bit thicker and they problably show through clothes ? (Women wearing "close to body" T-shirth). I was also wondering if anybody has tried brand that sells belt for Fitness coach wireless transmitter ? (http://www.fitnessav.com/Theater-Mic-Belt-p/am12pb.htm)
  3. Yes I agree for the physical sensations...but when I listen to a rock band music at home...I don't want it to sound like they are playing in a rehearsing studio or their garage. Some genre of music would not exist or be listenable if they are not amplified or going through some studio processings.
  4. Except for classical recording (and this is not even true anymore) who would want to listen to the original sound in the recording room...a Kick drum will always sound better gated, EQed and going through a compressor....
  5. Point is for the average public there is no need for them to subscribe a more expensive uncompressed option if all they do is listening to their music on cheap earbuds or one of those trendy "sound bars". Some critical listeners will probably hear the difference on studio monitors (especially hypercompression artifacts) or high end hifi systems...but those differences will soon disapear after one or two glasses of wine lol
  6. 3 out of 6. The three others were 320kpbs. I've done it with a mac book air and a pair of headphones Audio Technica ATH M50X. I love those tests it tells you a lot about the way we like to listen to music. For example i chose the 320Kps for the Suzanne vega song because to my ear mp3 compression actually smoothes out all the proximity effects of her voice (clics of her mouth) For the Coldplay extract I 've got it right because I knew that the uncompressed version will reveal all the mastering artifacts due to dynamic hypercompression on rock music. I actually prefer the 320kps sample.
  7. It seems more accurate to listen to the two files being played in an audio editing software (through same pair of speakers). Also were the two recorders recording at the same time or it was two different performances?
  8. I would love to see it being available on google store outside of the U.S. instead....
  9. I've worked once as a sound asssist with a Fench Mixer on a movie. He also used to move continually his fader maybe not to the extent of the mixer in the first vid, but It seems to me that it was more a way of being reactive...the finger already in slight movement might react faster if you decide to adjust the fader than a resting hand waiting for something to happen.
  10. Hello, I am looking for an equivalent of the sony NP-F570. I had three of them and I used them on my lectrosonics SRb (with the SRbattsled). However they are starting to die one after another and Sony does seem to produce them anymore. I have looked on amazon for an equivalent NP batterie size but there are so many references and most of them are cheap chinese brand. Did anybody had good experience with those cheap chinese NP batterie. Of course I could go with larger size NP batterie but the NP-F570 is the perfect size and weight for a "on camera" receiver.
  11. Very funny to see that what is considered like industry standard in French TV (and french territories like my country) is almost unknow in the rest of the world...
  12. Sometimes the Boom Operator has no other solution than to work with a wireless monitor, when the DP is a freakin as.h.le!!! Boom operator Fred Mascaras on set of a French movie
  13. I would advice you not to bring fragile microphones such as Schoeps CMIT
  14. Would any of you guys buy a mixer or audio recorder from a brand called videodevices or picturedevices? Seems weird to me...wonder if sounddevices start to make more money with the video business than they do with audio, they might have to change their name...
  15. http://vimeo.com/gothamsound/nab-2013-sound-devices New video gears: Pix 260 Pix Kit Pix drive bay Pix caddy CF New audio gears: XL 2X: Male/female XLR cable to TA3F.....
  16. I live in French Polynesia and use myus.com all the time. It works very well, they have got great shipping rates with DHL. Sometimes you can save up to 100 dollars for shipping compare to ordering directly with the online shop. Also they've got the personnal shopper service that order anything for you, very usefull especially for those website that require US address for shipping and also US address for the billing and they charge you about 6% of the price of the item you want to order. They can consolidate mulitple package into one, take photo and check if the item you order is in good shape and match the invoice. Just have to check if the customs of your country is ok with myus. In my country our local custom agents don't really like to deal with myus packages because too many of us took advantage of the "change the declared value" option
  17. Thanks for the answers, I did not know about Unveil, looks like a very interesting tool and not that expensive. Concerning WNS, I've got a 240 vouchers from Waves, that is why I was interesting in purchasing it in the first place. Yeah John you're right I might just demo WNS to hear what it sounds like.
  18. Hello everybody, Part of my job is doing post mixing for documentaries. I've already own the Waves X bundles, Z noize and Isotope RX advanced. I now mainly use Isotope RX and from time to the waves X bundles. I wanted to know if any of you have tried or use the waves noise suppressor (WNS) and if you think that it would be a good addition to my restoration plugins? by the way I am not a big fan of Z noise so I am looking for something more in the Izotope denoise side. Any suggestions are welcome.
  19. This place really starts to sound like one of the those Hi Fi / audiophiles forum. Anyway anyone knows that it is not about the headphones but really about the famous $500 wooden knob modification...
  20. " I guess you refer to the denoiser plugin...to save a noise profile click on "preset" and then click "add" and press "ok".
  21. I did an assignment about the use of hypercompression in music mastering when I was studying audio back in 2003...In fact its been the norm since the 90's. Just listen to album like californication by red hot chili peppers (1999), you can even hear distortion on good playback system....though it was one of their best selling album LOL
  22. Thanks for all the answers. Now I guess it is down to the machines own specificities LOL
  23. Hello, What would be the most readable screen between the nomad and 664? I know they are two very different devices with their own specifities and it might seem a bit silly to make a choice solely on their screen capability. However I work most of the time, outside under a strong tropical sun doing run and gun for documentary and fancy features won't make a difference if I can't see the menu or the meters on the screen. Thanks in advance for the answers.
  24. A month ago I was on a shoot with two talents. One had a SMQV/UCR411a and the other had a G2. At one point during break time they went away in an other room (about 30 meters away) to discuss. My UCR411a had no signal at all, while the G2 still had two bar of signal. Even if this is not a normal situation for shooting it is interresting to see that even the old G2 are not that bad (range wise of course). On the defense of the lectrosonics system, later on during the shoot I was getting hits, though the talent was only 15 meters away and we were in a environment free RF.
