  1. There is probably a way to adjust the built in rep system on the forums to only function in that section. It would essentially be like an ebay "top seller" or "trusted" seal.
  2. Possible, they do own Neumann after all.
  3. Great work being done there by Tom, given the challenging position. The lack of off-axis colouration is one of my favourite features of the 8060.
  4. This may seem obvious, but this is the exact kind of sound it makes when phantom power is being sent from the input. Worth checking.
  5. All the mics we use on set are condenser mics, shotgun mics are still condenser mics (but with an interference tube). A typical scenario that people pick a supercardioid (or even straight cardioid) over a shotgun would be because they deal with indoor reflections better.
  6. no no no, what is clearly going on is that lady with the hat has a very small head and is booming the scene.
  7. All MKH8000 series mics come with the MZX-8000 XLR module, unless you specifically buy the capsule only. Here is a picture of the MZX-8000 XLR module by itself, couldn't find any mic closeups, but here are some pics of myself (well, my boom) with the MKH8040 and MKH8060 respectively (have switched to lighter gauge black lyres since);
  8. Same with both my 8060 and 8040. 8040 was repaired, 8060 replaced.
  9. I had the pleasure of meeting him back home in Dublin about 9 years ago or so. Truly great man.
  10. That's a back breaker and a half, greg. Best of luck tomorrow!
  11. From their twitter, "Preliminary UK prices are £675 for master & £245 for tx" So about 1,000 USD for the master. 390 USD for the tx. I am waiting for it's release here in the US.

    Limiters On 788T

    This is incorrect, On all Sound Devices recorders, limiting happens pre-A/D. The limiters on the 744t are analog and fixed. They are also superb imo. The limiters on the 788t are also analog, but are digitally controlled* and adjustable. They come out of the factory on a setting that's very different to those on the 744, which is why in the manual there's a section showing you how to set them up to be the same. (though whether they're still as good as on the 744 is debatable) *This is likely the reason they can't be used above 48k on the 788, not enough processing power.

    744t obsolete?

    For some of us, when recording effects or very dynamic acoustic music, the fact that you can't use the 788t's limiters at anything above 48k is a big downside. Is this the same with the Nomad? For example, could I record six tracks @ 96khz w/ limiters* on for 3 hours non-stop? For a 744/552 combo, this is not a problem at all. * taking for granted that NeverClip might negate that need, I'm still curious.
  14. Me at Lulworth firing ranges in Dorset, England. We were recording the British "Challenger 2" Main Battle Tank firing rounds down range. Military grade hearing protection on with a flask of coffee in my hand, waiting for the tank crew to begin. Friend of mine snapped this on his DSLR while we were recording;
  15. I've always assumed that if an MKH8030 were to be released, Rycote would provide a mounting system for MKH8000 Double M/S setups. Your DIY one is cool! One thing to mention is that in the Schoeps Double M/S mounts, the rings are big enough so that the rear mic has less obstruction close to it.
  16. Ultrasone HFI-700's for location work and extended sessions on the computer. Beyerdynamic DT880 (250ohm) for music. Fed by a Littledot MKV Headphone amp / Headroom Ultra Micro DAC.
  17. Quality stuff, haha. And yes, the film is "Der Untergang" or "Downfall". I highly recommend it. Superb film.
  18. I hear the hiss, don't think it's normal.....certainly not with a mic of that caliber. I'd say send it in.
  19. Not sure if anywhere rents out the Rycote Duck, which would be ideal. All Rycote windjammers are coated with liquid repellant that can take quite a bit of rain though.
  20. Use it without, 552 lo-cut at around 9'oclock does it for me. The 8060 doesn't go down anywhere near as low as the 8040 or 8050 do, I do have to keep a light touch with the 8040.
  21. ^ I can vouch for Justin having worked with him several times. Top notch fella.
  22. ^ PM sent. As for travel, I've only travelled for sound work once and it was back home (Dublin, Ireland to Dorset, England). I'd defer to other mixers who get those jobs frequently.
  23. An MKH30, with either the 8040 or 8060 Mid depending on the material. Would love it if they released an MKH8030.
  24. The WS-2 is what I'd like for the 8060 itself. But I've sort of been killing two birds with one stone, I do a lot of effects recording with an M/S setup, so I use the "Rycote Stereo Windshield Kit AG" as my universal system (for now).
  25. Another happy owner here. Very light, good reach and can actually work well indoors (though I use an 8040 indoors usually). Does seem like the 8040 rolls off a bit quicker, MKH8040 MKH8050
