    LT Transmitter Battery Life

Eneloop 2400 mAH NiMH: 5.5 hours

That's unfortunate, seems very low. An SMQV running at 100mW will get 8.5 hours on two 2200 mAH NiMH batteries as per the link in the first post.

  2. This was mentioned in the SRC thread, but I figured it merits it's own discussion. Especially if the LT is the true replacement since there's no wideband SM in the works.

    SMQV

    Pros: Slightly Smaller, 250mw option

Cons: Not wideband, Battery compartment paste can (seldomly) be an issue

    LT

Pros: Wideband, Assignable switch, IR Port, Simpler battery compartment

    Cons: Slightly Larger

Anyone feel free to chime in with their thoughts.

One thing I can't find info on is battery life between the two. When both set at 100mw, is battery life similar? It would be brilliant if Lectro could update this page with info for the LT : http://www.lectrosonics.com/Support/component/com_fsf/Itemid,714/tag,Wireless,%20batteries,%20battery,%20life,%20SM,%20SMd,%20SMQ,%20SMV,%20SMQV/view,faq/

I am against puncturing peoples clothing and putting needles next to their skin.

I find them to be a good option in many scenarios. With extra care taken, of course.

The concealer / button hole mount do seem excellent. Have you been using those much, Rado?

  4. No. Unfortunately Premier, like FCP, does not maintain metadata through the OMF/AAF export process. Really sucks, because Pro Tools has some extremely useful, time saving editing functions that utilize that metadata. Unfortunately Avid is the only edit platform that maintains all metadata through export (that i know of).

I'm curious if linking to field recorder files based on timecode would work then? (there's a checkbox for it in match field recorder files).

Worth noting to everyone that field recorder workflow is Pro Tools HD only.

  5. As bad as I suspect this thing is, at least it allows external microphones, multiple tracks, and timecode. I'd rather cheap student-level productions use something like this than a non-timecode recorder like the $300 Zooms. Going from "utter crap" to "much better crap" is at least an improvement. But no way will this thing be a replacement for a 788 or a Maxx or anything like that.

I'm doubtful that this could work for sound effects people because they're extremely critical on mic preamps and dynamic range. I'm not convinced you can make a very wide-range, low noise 2-channel mic preamp and put it in a recorder for $995, let alone 8 channels of them.

The specs say it has about the same EIN* and better A/D dynamic range than a 744t....

    744t

    EIN: -130dBu

    A//D Dynamic Range: 114db

    F8

    EIN: -127dBu

    A/D Dynamic Range: 120db

    * They measure this with gain fully up, so it has to be taken into account the F8 has about 7db more gain available than the 744t.

Of course, these are just numbers. Jury is still out for me until I get my hands on one.

  6. Can't wait to try one. As mentioned already, my only concern is the limiters. But 8 X inputs of -127dbu EIN and 120db dynamic range for a grand.....that is truly game changing. Could be the machine sound effects recordists have been wanting for years.
