  1. The link-from-search-engine-to-JWsound-advertistements-hack is still alive. It also happens with Bing, for example and not just Google. It looks like no one can find JWsound by search engine, since you always end up with a site with all kinds of aggressive banners, even the URL is different. (Even in your own language, in my case Dutch.) Try in incognito window for guaranteed success.. This one's deep and probably lays within the website host. Have you tried contacting the host about this? Or is this a way to finance JWsound.. edit: It also happens in other browsers like Firefox and Internet Explorer. And on an other PC as well. It does not happen on my iPhone and that's probably because you're going to the mobile version of JWsound.
  2. He should have become a DOP. They make more than double the money and don't even have to worry about equipment, because the assistant is taking care of that. As a DOP, you just make some nice shots, talk some creative blather and go home. Much easier and looks cooler too. Everything you are good at is easy. Because you're good at it. His Lav is clipping big time by the way.
  3. Happening to me, too. Just enter jwsoundgroup in Google. When clicking a link to JWsound you get redirected to crap... When that is not happening to you, open you browser in 'stealth mode' (no cookies etc) and try again. This hack is invisible for regular users, it seems.
  4. Here a realistic view of what you could expect... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHf8ERkdR8A#t=27
  5. The only thing I have noticed is that the Invision lyres leave a brownish color print on my Schoeps CMC. So it's actually (the appearance of) the microphone that suffers from keeping it in the Rycote all the time...
  6. Thanks I always have used the foam windscreen(s). But I have assisted someone who used the ball (without fur) instead of the foam for indoors.
  7. I did't realize that, seems logical . Well what holds me back from using it indoors anyway (without fur, as alternative to foam popscreen) was during a bed scene, where the sound of the sheets (off axis) where colored by the internal reflections of the ball. The material is (or was?) so hard it reflects sound. Rycote windshields also suffer from this but less I think.
  8. My experience with the Schoeps basket without fur is that it had terrible internal reflections from off axis sounds. But this was a 20 or so year old model, maybe they've improved the material. I don't know if the furry one has the same 'interior' but I'd still go for the Cinela..
  9. (off tipic) I disagree. In post you can not remove traffic noise if the voice (or whatever sound) is in the same frequency range. (Or at least I do not know any noise removal tool that can do that with zero artifacts.) The special feature of the the SuperCMIT is that it rejects ambient noise even on low frequencies, resulting in a much clearer sound. The only thing is that the superCMIT sounds a bit artificial. But only a handful of sound people hear that... Outdoors I'd advice a Cinela Piano with the SuperCMIT to get rid of the internal reflections that the Rycote has. (on topic) I have tried Unveil in post on a few things, but I always preferred the unprocessed sound.
  10. I also tried the (new) Emesser as potential buyer and it indeed sounds bad. To much presence at around 3 - 4 kHz. I ended up also getting a Schoeps CCM8. I find the Pearl MSH 10 a very interesting mic, haven't heard of that one before I think. I definitely have to check it out... edit: Hmm it's bigger and heavier that I thought.
  11. Ah I see. Well nowadays it's more like: "No mids, it must be Bose"
  12. Yeah probably not good in the rain Sound quality is OK, not too detailed though. On the Quietcomfort 15, you mean? True the highs are a bit thin, but the lows are actually too loud like on most closed headphones. But you hear a lot more in (very) loud situations than with any other headphones, because of the impressive noise cancellation on all frequencies.
  13. So I got myself the Bose QuietComfort 15 headphones, mainly to get some rest and peace in the airplane, and spare my ears at the same time... But I was curious what would happen if I used it in loud situations (concert backstage for example), while recording that same sound. So I tested it with some very loud music... It turns out to work rather well! You don't have to crank up the volume to unsafe levels anymore to hear what your mix sounds like. Also, you hear the differences with or without 80Hz highpass. Normally this is not audible because all the direct low frequencies are coming through anyway. Very interesting! I will probably try this out next time I have to record something loud. It's claimed to work on a single AAA for 35 hours.
  14. I agree, it does matter to see where the gain knob is, so you can set the levels based on how loud you expect it to be before shooting.. One of the first things I did was not nailpolish, but just a black waterproof marker: The advantage of mono wav support (though offtopic) is that you can make much longer recordings because every track can now be 4gb rather than all tracks in one file. And some post people prefer mono tracks over poly. And Larry F was right about "If black washes out on white, white will wash out on black." The only difference is that red is better visible on white, but the green is better visible on black. So which color scheme to use depends on how hot your signal is... That said, the option for solid bars does improve visibility on both color schemes.
  15. @Texasnoise: Oeh that s*cks... Try the Sound Devices Forum. The update went well here, too. Can you remember from which firmware version you did the update?
  16. I'll do a test with off-axis and distant voice as well in a few days and post it here to make the test a bit more complete. By the way, this test is not meant to prove any point, but just for everybody to listen to. I can imagine you might think something is crap because it's cheap. For example, I still have that idea about Behringer, but I've been told they're making some nice products too now (don't ask me what). PS Test 2 and 3 also have FX and ambience, not just voice. (I just added that note in the start post as well.)
  17. In a that has made me rather unpopular among a certain group (or everyone), I #entry213279 (among other things) that the Rode NT5 sounded surprisingly similar to the Schoeps MK41 (with CMC 6-U preamp). I have made some tests, so you can judge for yourself. The recordings where made with both microphones atop each other. You hear the same recording twice. I will not tell (yet) which microphone is first, so it is a real blind test. Test 1 and 2 where recorded on a Sound Devices 664, with 80Hz high pass on. Test 3 was recorded in 2012 using an M-Audio Delta 1010 sound card and either a Sound Devices 302 or M-Audio DMP3 (Can't remember). mk41 vs nt5 test 1.wav Voice mk41 vs nt5 test 2.wav FX and ambience (16 bit because file was too large) mk41 vs nt5 test 3.wav Voice and FX
  18. You could also consider putting a ccm 8 atop your Schoeps (MK 41?) That's what I did, so I can switch to (MS-) stereo at any time.
  19. I knew I was going to be sued for that humble opinion... I already called myself cocky, my goodness calm down please. I have listened to both side by side, yes. Have you? When I'm home I'll start a new topic with a blind test of both mics, if I'm not banned by then for my controversial opinions...
  20. Note taken. But again, I can't help having several untraceable issues (in the field) with it the past six years. From that perspective, my point of view could be called fair.. I think. Also take in consideration that this microphone was amazing 20+ years ago (not sure how long exactly), but with new (production-) techniques around the microphone is still extremely good sounding, but not as unique as it used to be. My NT5 backup sounds quite close the the MK41, to my big surprise. (I will probably get sued for that opinion. Please only respond if you have done a proper test comparing it with the mk41 or mk4.) And in a time when there are smartphones you can use under water you'd expect issues like this could be prevented at the production stage, not solved in the field by the user. It's not the 80's anymore... Just my humble opinion. People call me cocky...
  21. Okay, I'm sorry for insulting the Schoeps brand.. But it's really based on my experiences so far, I can't get to any other conclusion and won't take it back, but will not say it this way again.. I've had my big and small drama's with Schoeps. I can't help it, it's just the way it is. But the problem with text also is that it weights much more than spoken word so I should probably have added some smiles to lighten it up a bit.
  22. Some of the replies here are kind of hostile, like I insulted them personally. Also people asume I am some kind of amateur without even listening to the sound file. I was only sharing a bad experience. it looks like only good experiences may be shared here. I'm kind of dissapointed...
  23. Wind rumble? Did you listen to the attached sound file? I probably shouldn't have started this thread and hereby gently ask if it could be closed. I am not inexperienced. Reading the comments here I can only conclude I have just lots of bad luck with Schoeps (never with any other brand). That's why I wrote 'true nature'. A am very careful with my equipment. And I'm not the only one having problems as my colleague students also suffered problems with the Schoeps sets of the film school. Meanwhile I called the store to report a broken device. It's still making sounds rather than recording them so I guess something is totally broken. (I did check cables, inputs etc.) Thanks for the feedback... I think I'll have to go in defense a bit though. 1. I have a foam pop filter. However when recording music with the mic on a stand for example, no pro uses a pop filter since it adds coloring to the sound. Outside I always use the rycote, but in this case I was recording bees for fun and there was no wind, so I only used the foam to get closer to the bees. 2. The microphone and rycote is not even a year old and everything is as new, and I indeed did check it. 3. ?.. I think I'll stop here.
  24. The first time was in a (ever dry) blimp from hot sun to warm gift shop interior. The second time was from warm room to hot sun, not humid at all.
  25. True. I guess I am just unlucky. Sorry for that last sentence, it may be a bit like 'ranting'. That's what you get when you start writing right after it happens.. But I had many problems with Schoeps mics from the Dutch film school, but I finally choose Schoeps after all for the sound, and in the belief that the mic sets from the film school had been mistreated. And the fact that something like a Zoom H2n is more reliable than a microphone ten times the cost (make that 30 times for MS rig) is something I can't grasp. In any case, my trust in Schoeps is gone again after this. I also found out that I actually own the mic for 3/4 year (not over a year as I thought), thats good news for warranty
