  1. i bought my 9v box at pinknoise in the uk. mind that there is a screw that holds the batt cover. screwdriver needed - umpf grr
  2. Just did 3x 45min docs with C300 Rec run>>>Timecode Buddy>>>788 Autorecord and Sennheiser G2 Feed on C300 Besides the little delay in auto record (around 1,5 sec) it worked out fine. We had no problem with that as everything happend pretty much controlled. BUT: Yesterday different Client: a Interview direct Line in from SQN 5. Could not see Levels during Interview but put Tone to -20 as Line in does automatically. In Final Cut it turned out that my levels peak around -24 to -22. From my experience it should have been 10dB higher. (Limiter in SQN was on). That leaves me to the idea that THE C300 METERS ARE CHEATING. I AM PRETTY SURE THAT CANON PUT SOME SAFETY ZONE IN THEIR METERS. Anybody else did some tests with levels on the recorded videos?
  3. Just worked with an rental Rycote Invision Mount that did excellent. Could have been Inv 6. http://www.rycote.co...sion_broadcast/ Had the tac!t onhand as well but did not find it necessary for it. More important seemed to me proper fixing of the cable beneath the Invision. A try in an old Sennheiser rubber style blimp as mid mic back to back on an MKH 30 showed toooo much low rumble. even with tac!t. I love the sound of the mkh 8050 :-) Did an interview that sounded really better than in real. Full rich detailed pleasing and not aggresive.
  4. Nomad Lite should have AES outs as from Zaxcom comparison chart. One more thing: I have no reliable info found on M/S stereo headphone matrix in nomad which I saw in an 664 video. there is somewhere something on zaxcom website but no clear statement. Just M/S decode in the chart. Not sure if 664 can do M/S decode though. 664 has one button PFL access - seems quicker to me than nomad? (not having used both). more important to me than per channel gain/pan is to be able to quickly monitor different sources. And about SQN: Yes these limiters are GREAT. Much better than 552 or 788 for example.
  5. just one more thing for wireless to consider is weight. especially if you have 4 or more receivers around your neck. Lectros 211/411 could get heavy with their solid built and fullsize XLR connector cable... and I heard antenna switching (guess that was it) when tested Sennheiser 2000. I was disappointed by them compared to G3.
  6. you are right about capitalized. but an n is missing. in fact translation word by word would be: Akzeptiere keinen Ersatz depending on the meaning of subs...
  7. press hdd twice. menu to select hdd. options (fwd ). scroll down to erase (menu Button)....
  8. about CF cards: I was told by the german retailer Ambient to format three times in 788 not only one when formatting CF cards. Did this and testrecording for a few hours went fine. to 1) do you have auto power on when ext. power is on enabled in the menu? I use the CF card to backup and do not plug 788 into a computer...
  9. could a faulty CF card result in aborted recordings even nothing to the hdd? The false takes folder contains also nothing - i guess it is not for 788 to store recovery/wrong files but has something to do with markered takes. Am I right? I have two transcend 32GB cards from the rental and I thought I have had problems with both of them. But have to figure that out to be sure.
  10. I experienced also some media problems using Transcend 400x 32GB on an 788t SSD. While recording I got HDD media slow warnings. Third time today in the last two weeks. CF card also had problems but only once a message CF slow appeared after HDD Slow. Today one thing more happend - it does not autoroll but beep beep beep beep beep... (recording only 4 tracks) Even pressing rec maually does nothing. After reboot everything seems fine again but not nice at all. HDD was formatted before shoot and CF also. Did some backups on my PC without formatting though.... anything else besides formatting I could do? speed test was fine.
  11. and how much do you loose at the beginning?
  12. Just did a setup with 788 SSD, Timecode Buddy, C300 Recrun and Auto record with Preroll and was not seamless. I loose the first second. Is this your experience as well? How do you transmit Tc? Tried to put Hold off to 0,5-0,7 seconds but had false starts and wrong timecode. How do you avoid confusion recording Atmos / Wild Tracks regarding doubled timecode? I just think of turning TC off for that.
  13. well done - never seen on a forum :-) but there will be preroll in this machine as of Martijns Video http://www.facebook.com/groups/jwsound/
  14. my guess is they are broken - 10m they should do absolutly fine if there is nothing in the same freq. Get that 150 Dollar Frequency explorer - will help you in future. you can check RF level on receiver when transmitter is out but that sennheiser scale starts at very high level. you could have RF decreasing your range. check if RF level is not full scale at 5m direct sight. If its not something is broken - most probably bad contact internal antenna. and: most wireless have more power in the middle of their freq. spectrum than at the edges.
  15. what I see of that video is that the green led on the right is much brighter than the LCD
  16. nomad offers 2 notch filters maybe steeper highpass filter nomad has 10 sek Prerecord which I do not find on 664 specs internal soundreport? Input linking - M/S Stereo headphone matrix?
  17. so what is a maxed out Maxx and how much is it?
  18. metadata entering could be problematic. I see no easy controls for it nor an usb port.
  19. Actually I dont get what you are talking about.
  20. I did some tests and want to share results: Setup was in an very reverbant room - mics 7-8cm above my head on stands, recorded by SD 552 Mics: Sennheiser e965 - 1" Capsule / condenser Cardioid + Super-cardioid BPM CR-73II - Neumann U89ai alike 1" Capsule / omni + Cardioid Rode NT5 1/2“ cardioid Sennheiser MKH 416 Sennheiser MKH 70 Sennheiser e935 dynamic cardioid Sennheiser e835 dynamic cardioid Sennheiser SKM100-945 wireless dynamic super-cardioid I compared all mics to Sennheiser e965 as I could get one quite cheap at 370 Euro B-Stock (little misprints on bag) First 416 vs 965 super cardioid very close sounding, 965 deeper bass and more open, maybe a tiny little bit more detail - BUT its not sensitive enough - little noise 416 vs 965 cardioid 416 little boomy but good, 965 card definetely less bass, little more detail, sounds more "round", - still little noise NT5 vs 965 cardioid NT5 sharp s - lack deep bass but surprisingly is the reverb not that disturbing - sounds round + nice low mids BPM 73II cardioid vs 965 cardioid sensitiy both too low - little noise on both; BPM 73II picks by far the most background of all mics but sounds very round and natural, reverb is not that disturbing and i could listen relaxed, lacks bass // 965 more bass more highs - sounds more clinical and detailed but voice is not that one piece MKH 70 vs 965 cardioid 70 much bass - boomy and dull and lots of reverb - not made for this 935 cardioid vs 965 cardioid despite the specs is a little more selfnoise on 965 ; 965 more bass more highs more dynamic 935 bit more middie + constant 835 cardioid vs 965 cardioid 835 cheaper sounding and much less sensitive - middie less detail bit dark skm 100-945 super cardioid vs 965 super cardioid wireless by far the worst sounding (no detail no bass thin SSSSS), but very very little background, voice seems round but unpleasant Conclusion: Despite I spent quite some time with this I can't pick a clear winner. I would avoid MKH 70 and the EW 100 SKM100-945 but that's obvious anyway. I am disappointed by the noise of the 965. Of the specs it is more sensitive than the dynamic Sennheiser and it is; but the signal to noise ratio isn't good enough for me in that boom situation. (Not noticeable on TV speakers though) It is useable but not great. Detail, openness, dynamic and bass are great. Just my voice seems not to be one piece. 945 on cable would have been interesting as it surpresses a lot of background. 935 is good but a bit thin / bright I am surprised how well the 416 holds up in that reverbant room. I have a hate love relationship to my 416 – but actually it is never never bad. 2nd place in this test. The Neumann 89 alike BPM 73II has that much more background to the other cardioids. But it is very very pleasant to listen to. In fact I would take a little more background noise for these mellow relaxed sound. With this kind of sound I feel a little more connected to the talent. Maybe I can find a better LDC with less noise and a little tighter pattern. Biggest surprise to me is Rode NT-5. I think with a little EQ on the SSS this mic sounds best in that situation. It has not that much detail in the mids but the reverb isn't that much disturbing. Very little background. Lacks deep bass but rich deep mids. I would have liked to have CMC641 and 8040 / 8050 / Audix SCX-1HC to test as well.. Next time I want to have a least one of them...
  21. So do we have real world users in the meantime in this forum? Especially with Senny Mkh 8040 / 8050 I am very interested in field reports...
  22. thanks phil - I did not thought about the shadow issue... I am aware of the extra hassle, will certainly not use it for booming only for the indoor sitdown Interviews where I could get quite close on an c-stand. I am wondering if it would sound that much thinner overhead like most small mics do just because its not onaxis.
  23. by accident I found a link on this form to voice over mics. I think John B. was the one: http://www.vocalimpa...orage.html#RE20 Hearing these files I am amazed by the KEL HM-7U and found this comparison with MKH 8040 as well: http://www.gearslutz...-kel-hm-7u.html despite the 8040 be more natural I like the airy KEL more on the guitar. So my question is do you think it will provide enough "size" if its lets say 5-10cm above head on c-stand? Only in good rooms for sure. I recently used rental CMIT (could be a bit more mid detail) and MK41 (could be a bit bigger and more low end) which aren't bad for sure. I like to get away from mics with ssssssss (416, CS3) Wanted to rent MKH 8040 but isn't availible. So I think about buying that cheap lightweight KEL HM-7U even if I won't get the investment back. If the sound overhead is good. As I think noone tried that mic on set does anybody tried to do overhead with large condensers like U87 / TLM 103 or AT - 4047/SV? to which result compared to onmic voice over? And how about Sennheiser e 965?
