  1. Thanks. Excuse my denseness, so with the CA2, you can stick a 3/8 bolt through the bottom of the plate or use it's built-in 3/8 bolt and get a fairly sleek mount onto a 3/8 socket? That'd be groovy! Jim PS- I have few shoe-mount things, but I'm finding the shoes less available these days. Is that just me?
  2. I'm looking for a small plate or holder that will help me mount a TC box (I have Denecke JB-1s and Tentacles) or perhaps a G3-sized RX to camera cages/plates 1/4-inch and/or 3/8-inch mounts. There is a bracket made for Tentacle Sync Es, but Denecke didn't have any recommendations. So I turn to all of you: What do you use to mount TC boxes (especially) to cameras besides velcro and such? There's this bracket made by Lanparte for Tentacle Sync E. Sizing is a smidge different from JB-1 sizing. But does anyone have first-hand knowledge on if you can wedge a JB-1 into this? https://shop.tentaclesync.com/product/sync-e-bracket-by-lanparte/ There's this SSD holder from SmallRig. It might maybe sorta fit a JB-1 Again, any first-hand experiences with it? https://www.smallrig.com/smallrig-universal-holder-for-external-ssd-bsh2343.html And there's this small-device holder from Vocas, though it's a bigger platform than I need for TC (though might be a good size for RX. https://www.vocas.com/vocas-small-device-holder.html I have a hazy memory of something similar from K-Tek or someone. But what am I forgetting? Note: I'm not looking for cold shoe mounts. Any warnings or recommendations? Esp with things you've used that didn't or did work?
  3. There were a couple people associated with Deity around here, IIRC. @Vincent R.and @Andrew From Deity , any thoughts?
  4. I wasn't thinking you powered off incorrectly, but rather that maybe the tx/recorder somehow dropped power for short period. Like there's a faulty switch or something. No real idea. Total drag. For me, once I get an error on a card, I ditch it. I don't try to resurrect it or have bad sectors (or whatever) mapped out. The things are comparatively cheap, and the aggravation a bad card causes...well, you know. Again, total bummer. Hang in there!
  5. Glad that you have audio files again! Bummer that it's going to take some work to get everything TC'd and sync'd. But still... Maybe drop Deity a note and asked them what might have caused the issue. My guess is power lost or turned off before the files finished writing. But Deity might have some better thoughts...and perhaps a way to avoid or minimize the problem in the future. No idea if there is a solution, but worth at least asking. https://deitymic.com/support/
  6. Ya, I've used Audacity to "uncorrupt" audio files that got corrupted when the recorder was turned off or lost power before the file header was written as it would be if the file was closed/saved normally (I wonder if something like that happened with your transmitter/recorder). Audacity is free and straightforward; it's available here: https://www.audacityteam.org But if you're feeling wiped and don't want to send the files to Olle (awesome offer of help Olle!), you could try VLC since you already have and are familiar with it. I just googled up this YouTube tutorial. It's from a few years ago, but turns out it's done by a friend who owns a software company. Anyway, he shows some WAV files with zero duration, so perhaps it's a similar issue to what you're facing. And the video has almost 50,000 views; this is a common problem... If nothing else, a quick try with VLC might put your mind at ease before you try Audacity + Wave Agent as Olle suggests. Good luck.
  7. Thanks osa and Pete! Any other thoughts on good mounts for the CS-M1? (And when is Cinela's website coming back? https://www.cinela.fr OK, I'll be patient...)
  8. OK all you CS-M1 aficionados... What mounts are you using with it? Rycote INV-6? Rycote KSM1? Cinela OSIX 1? (or whatever's the correct mount; their website is "coming back soon.") Other?
  9. The built-in search engine here was/is OKish, but not great. But, as you may know, you can narrow a search on Google to only dig through this site. For example, use these search terms: 688 site:jwsoundgroup.net IOW: https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=688+site:jwsoundgroup.net&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 Add a couple terms to narrow the results. And then like Rick suggests, ask SD 🙂 Good luck!
  10. This morning, NAB put out this statement: "As we have always kept the best interest and safety of the industry as our priority, it has become apparent in the face of these challenges that we can no longer effectively host NAB Show or our co-located events, the Radio Show and Sales and Management Television Exchange, in person." Rest of the announcement: https://nabshow.com/2021/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2021/09/2021-NAB-Show-Announcement-1.pdf With luck, we can hold a JWS/RAMPS party next spring.
  11. Good question about renewals. But note that the 695 guide to getting a license is still on the site; they just reorganized the site a bit. https://www.local695.com/fcc-licensing/how-to-get/
  12. Perhaps rent a Schoeps CMC641 (CMC6 preamp with MK41 supercardioid capsule) and a MK4 cardioid capsule (and perhaps another CMC6 preamp) and see which works best for you. https://schoeps.de/en/products/colette.html https://schoeps.de/en/products/colette/capsules/cardioids/mk-4.html But if you're thinking of some wide shots, maybe consider a bringing along a good shotgun mic for you tests.
  13. Browsing Facebook this morning I find: And here are some preliminary spec/test results (that Rycote posted on Facebook...I have no inside info). I asked about the no filter/EQ/rolloff line, and Rycote wrote "will have to get back to you on that one with some updated testing" so perhaps they're still tweaking (or just haven't published) that...
  14. That Smallrig rod clamp thing is an interesting idea. I'll see if they or someone have something for 19mm rods. Since it looks like the barrel part of a Neutrik (and perhaps most) XLR connector is 19.2mm... I'd need a long barrel (or narrow clamp). Huh... Thanks Dalton and Barry. Any other thoughts?
  15. So I'm coming across cameras with mini-XLR connectors. Blackmagic Pocket Cinema, Canon C70, probably more down the line. I'd like a way to add a mini-XLR to XLR-F adapter cable, but with some strain relief. Is there some way to connect the XLR-F to a camera cage or cheese plate or something? I know there's the Wooden Camera A-Box but I want a single XLR connector and something a bit smaller. I've poked through Mouser, Neutrik's site, and elsewhere but haven't come across anything else. Looking for something more stable than zip ties, less permanent than welding... Would love something someone else has already made, but I can assemble a cable if people just point me to the right bits... So what am I missing? What would you recommend? Here's a picture of the Wooden Camera box:
  16. It's pretty easy to set up sub-frame audio editing in Premiere Pro. Check out this support page: Editing audio in the timeline. Or watch this 30-second video:
  17. I was also going to suggest percussion trays. Some are well made... Here's what Sweetwater, a good US online dealer of musical equipment has: https://www.sweetwater.com/c1147--Percussion_Stands_and_Mounts
  18. We had a discussion on this topic a week or two ago: Good replacement ear pads for 7506? Wicked Cushion? Other? And if your foam is still good, but the cover/vinyl is the main thing messed up, check out Garfield Headphone Softies. I like and use those. But if the foam has broken down, check out the suggestions people gave me in that link above.
  19. Not on my to do list. From a few days ago... Key line: Americans who have been fully vaccinated do not need a booster shot at this time. https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2021/07/08/joint-cdc-and-fda-statement-vaccine-boosters.html Joint CDC and FDA Statement on Vaccine Boosters The United States is fortunate to have highly effective vaccines that are widely available for those aged 12 and up. People who are fully vaccinated are protected from severe disease and death, including from the variants currently circulating in the country such as Delta. People who are not vaccinated remain at risk. Virtually all COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths are among those who are unvaccinated. We encourage Americans who have not yet been vaccinated to get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect themselves and their community. Americans who have been fully vaccinated do not need a booster shot at this time. FDA, CDC, and NIH are engaged in a science-based, rigorous process to consider whether or when a booster might be necessary. This process takes into account laboratory data, clinical trial data, and cohort data – which can include data from specific pharmaceutical companies, but does not rely on those data exclusively. We continue to review any new data as it becomes available and will keep the public informed. We are prepared for booster doses if and when the science demonstrates that they are needed. ###
  20. I have a few pairs of 7506 headphones that need new pads. No, they don't just need Headphone Softies; they have those. But the foam pads are breaking (ok, have broken) down. What do you all recommend? Genuine Sony replacements? Wicked Cushion? Some generic thing from B&H or elsewhere? https://wickedcushions.com/collections/sony-mdr-7506-replacement-ear-pads Thanks, Jim
  21. Ya, it would be nice to have that as part of the updater. But Avid has had that info online for at least a week (when I checked); not sure when it was added. Here's some info on the updated compatibility page: Not supported on M1 Macs at this time: Avid Video Engine is not available on M1 Macs at this time. However, we are working with Apple to resolve known issues to be compatible in the future. The page: https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Compatibility/macOS-Big-Sur-Support Also, Shutter Encoder looks interesting. Thanks for mentioning that: https://www.shutterencoder.com/en/
  22. I also just got it as I tried to access the site. After a few seconds, everything loaded normally. This is just a data point, not a complaint, btw.
  23. That Marc needs to update his animation and Lectro needs to update their t-shirts. And following on your point about mislabeled fish, remember this story from, geez, thirteen years ago? Teenage DNA sleuths expose New York fish fraud AUGUST 22, 2008 ACCRA (Reuters) - Up to a quarter of fish in stores and restaurants in New York City was mislabeled as a more expensive variety, according to samples collected by two U.S. teenagers and tested with modern genetic identification methods. In the worst cases, two samples of filleted fish sold as red snapper, caught mostly off the southeast United States and in the Caribbean, were instead the endangered Acadian redfish from the North Atlantic, according to the tests, revealed on Friday. “We never expected these results. People should get what they pay for,” Kate Stoeckle, 18, told Reuters of the project with Louisa Strauss, 17. The two classmates from New York’s Trinity school collected and sent off 60 fish samples to the University of Guelph in Canada. Of 56 samples that could be identified by a four-year-old DNA identification technique, 14 were mislabeled. In all cases, the fish was labeled as a more costly type, apparently ruling out simple chance. It was the first known student use of DNA barcoding technology in a public market. 24. In the ongoing saga of low-end production. I can't tell if the reporter is doing a deep investigation or practicing for being a producer. The big tuna sandwich mystery Julia Carmel, New York Times June 20, 2021Updated: June 20, 2021 11:41 a.m. [snip] As The Washington Post reported in late January, Subway — the world’s largest sandwich chain — is facing a class-action lawsuit in California that claims its tuna sandwiches “are completely bereft of tuna as an ingredient.” Subway, for its part, has categorically denied the allegations. [snip] So, I procured more than 60 inches worth of Subway tuna sandwiches. I removed and froze the tuna meat, then shipped it across the country to a commercial food testing lab.
