  1. This was (and still is), my thinking about MPR52. A small enough BU to keep in the bag, with the potential to be repurposed on other duties. I have EK/SK2000 systems as well that can do this and maybe for IEMs the EK2000 is probably a bit better. For me Deity BP-TRX took a bit of this away though, as it'll be a decent enough and cheap hop, with TC and BU recorder function on top (as well as IEM). Yes, would love an all in 1 Nova but if a BU 2 bay RX module box (to use Zax modular RX with another recorder) means owning 2 Novas or an RX12, it's out of my reach and too bad - I think Zax would gain more users if things weren't so 'All or nothing'. That said, SL2 without aux O/Ps is going down the same road. As the economics of Covid unfold, I think users will prioritise their spending on systems with the greatest versatility and Wisy seem more in there than some others.
  2. Soap is more effective than the alcohol - a mildly soapy, moist wipe should be enough. I'm thinking a reasonable workflow used to clean the cable and belt pack should be OK-ish to practice and reassure others. Not sure about the waist bands etc. May be now would be the time for cast to have their own made to measure; labeled and wardrobe to manage the (fabric) washing into their workflow.
  3. Almost a 'No-brainer'. £700 / Rx channel. Can be used with most analogue Tx. Remote control for wisy's upcoming (analogue) Tx. Very tidy bags, even for those of us running dinosaurs like a 633 ,'). I have a MPR52 i might sell to help finance MCR54 but on the other hand with 4 channels in 1 basket (MCR54) what are other's thoughts on redundancy? eg. a BU Rx?

  5. Looks promising. Obvs wont be holding my breath. Would be great if they would make the BT feature function from a smart phone. The infrared set-up / update thing could even be done from a smart phone with IR emitter.
  6. Good news about miniature TX - relative to Lectro's SSM/ Zax's ZMT3 how big / what shape is it?
  7. in order of use: Dt48; Dt100; HD25; 7506; Dt250; HDJ8 (Sennheiser). Best sounding of those is IMHO is Dt250. Currently use HDJ8 and 7506 - as sound kits have got smaller the HPs seem bigger - I prefer circumaurals over supra but they need to fold for bag work.
  8. Partial wisy user here (mpr52 with SK5212😞 The up down arrow keys did confuse initially. The scanning is quite good as you have choices how to do it and how the info is presented. You can set any freq you want - over a massive range. The compandor modes are a big reason to choose wisy. Lectros have a great UI, their documentation is second to none and the SSM would be my main reason for going back to Lectro (if I did).
  9. 🤔 I guess that's analogue IN only then. When using BP-TRX with an iphone; will it record as well as send to phone? eg you could stream or record (mp3 for fast upload) with phone while still recording a HQ back-up on the BP-TRX?
  10. uh, on this basis do you even have 1 boom op or a sound department? Guide tracks and ADR? Genuinely interested to know if ADR is cheaper than painting out mics. Of course 1 of these options will sound a lot better than the other 1 (and may even look better ,')
  11. I thought I read somewhere it'll work as a USB interface for iOS device? Perhaps M2D2 users might interested to know if works as a recorder (and hop) with this as well. Will it TX/Hop and record simultaneously?
  12. Indeed. And 1 extra unit would allow you to manage the situation if you start swapping the units at 12 hours, minus charging time, multiplied by number of units in use. iirc the Deity stuff can also be charging/powered through the USB while in operation.
  13. yes, and 1000 / 25 (pal) = 40. So do people consider 19ms a dealbreaker for a hop? For me, as long as the latency is consistent, the 'belt and braces' of scratch and TC from 1 box on camera is great and client can manage an offset if they need to. For IEMs maybe a bit more of an issue but as Alex Lindsay mentioned in the discussion with Jon Tatooles sound behind picture is actually a bit like reality and therefore not as weird as sound ahead of picture. ie 19ms is like standing almost 6 metres away from someone you're talking to, < insert joke about social distancing > .
  14. Haha, hopefully this is as brilliant as it sounds. I thought from a while back a single box hop with TC (without the need for expensive hardware upstream) was an obvious thing to do - well done Deity for going there and further: eg a TC TRX (for either end of the hop), a belt pack, a receiver and a recorder (for some). Covid aside, I don't think I'll dump UHF for the belt packs anytime soon but Deity TRX will make sense for a lot of folk and maybe give them even more sales than their other stuff. I think right now multi purpose affordable boxes will be easier to justify. Are those 19 ms a deal breaker for anyone wanting to use them as hops?
  15. Because in post it will cheaper to 'paint out' a lav or a boom than it will be 'paint on' hair and make up?
  16. +1, yep, yes and definitely. I'm pretty sure so many of us would have bought 1 in a heart beat if had a built in recorder. I'm not going to say they missed an open goal because maybe there was something like a legal reason not do this - anyway here's to something like an R2D2 if ever happens.
  17. ...And perhaps to manage extreme air movement: a Bell-end.
  18. Yes experience bares something like this out. But I don't feel the difference is as linear as the speed of the Cue ball analogy would suggest - if it were, wouldn't the ratio of direct sound to reflected remain similar and therefor adjusting the recording level for the louder source be more effective than it is? I am just asking as I'm interested in the maths/physics around this and in no way trying to be contradictory, only more knowledgable. Or to put it another way, if I raise the issue with a colleague, I'd like to explain why just turning the gain down doesn't work. Perhaps, to use the Pool table analogy again, the speed of the cue ball remains the same (like the speed of sound wether it's quiet or loud) but the size of the Cue ball has got bigger and therefor bounces around a lot longer. resulting in not just a louder reflected sounds but reflected sounds arriving at the microphone much later. Regards, d
  19. Looks great. Can the USB jack be used for charging (a battery) and/or powering the device?
  20. Hi Jan, My set-up is primarily SK5212ii (SENN mode)/MPR52 with AES I/P to a 633. When it's not AES I use line level, eg max O/P from MPR52 and the line only I/Ps of the 633. When not using SK5212ii I use SK2000 (EVO mode). Obviously you want as close to full deflection on the TX as you are comfortable. Pilot tone set to off? I had the Wisycom FW updated last year so iirc it is the current 1 - the FW the 52 arrived with would NOT let me use 2 different expander modes at the same time (eg SENN and EVO) - the latter FW does. Are you doing side by side (AB) test with G3 RX against MPR52 on best setting? I did test my all my TX with all the expander modes on the 52 (against the native RX) - it was interesting to listen to the differences but I use my EVOs in EVO mode and SENNs in SENN mode.
  21. Some recorders have an 'Auto-record' function where they start to record when an input reaches a user defined level. iirc Tascam DR-680 and the later mark 2 (which also can also record safety tracks). You could even use the audio O/P from the camera to trigger record on the Tascam (so you don't have lots of audio without picture).
  22. I totally misread your post. ie didn't notice you were trying to send AES to camera, not AES from mic to recorder. Lol. My bad.
