  1. We're all an algorithm away from obsolescence - obviously someone will still need to plug the computer in.
  2. Graphite (art shop)? Talc (drugstore)?
  3. True (i wanted to see and read more about the hardware) - but my disbelief is on temporary hold. They make decent wireless accessories and the concept of bundling a device with a cloud service is not out of this world and maybe quite a useful. I'm not a/the manufacturer/dealer and I'm not promoting the item and I thought if posted in the section you suggest I would look like I was 1 or all of those things. I didn't see anyone complain when folks (inc me) put up links and details of other new products eg SD/Zax/Wisy etc. Happy for clarification on this by our esteemed host and you.

  5. What are the hardware restrictions – and more specifically how will sound be presented to the audience?
  6. Any news on when BP-TRX will be available?
  7. HI Javier, Sounds like a fun job. Aside from standard headset mics which of course might work really well (sonically and visually) with the space helmet props – the props department might be interested in designing (and 3d printing) mic mounts into the helmet props which could allow you to deploy your existing arsenal of lav mics. Another way to go might be Point Source Embrace Earmounts. I've been experimenting with these myself because they can be used with various brands of lav mics (Cos-11 for me) and are quite low profile. I'm in London and your welcome to PM about these Earmounts if you want to check them out. https://www.point-sourceaudio.com/products/microphones/earmount/eo-8wl/ Rode have a system which allows 1 of their normal lavs to be used like a headset - http://www.rode.com/accessories/lav-headset The Rode is no where near as slick looking or as good sounding as the Sennheiser SL1 in silver (SB) : https://en-uk.sennheiser.com/wireless-headmic-broadcast-live-stage-sl-1 dan
  8. I was going to say this looks like a very versatile option but with the wider and therefore stiffer tubes at the mic end (not the operator end) this looks more like a repurposed monopod – but since checking ALL the photos i see mic/camera/whatever can be screwed to either end and now I want 1 ,'). Nice find if the locks don't creek.
  9. http://www.vdbaudio.com/index.php?mode=products&type=detail&id=2048&src=145&type2=cat http://www.vdbaudio.com/index.php?mode=products&type=cat&id=144 http://www.vdbaudio.com/index.php?mode=products&type=cat&id=143 I have an older version of the BB which is very nice to have - it might be argued that longer poles will be more useful in the context of Covid and the issues with using Radio mics.
  10. the impression i got is OP needs to send mix via a phone so remote client can monitor in realtime. It would be cool to send a mix to a streaming platform in realtime, direct from the recorder. Nagra 7 has a GSM option but I'm not sure this would enable that.
  11. Hi Csaba, Is the splitter shown – male end: 4pole; female ends: mono in / stereo out?
  12. This would be good - i've been reading with a bit of intrigue. I thought Paul F's suggestion of several mics worth a go - maybe as a spaced stereo pair just to cover the field of the lab. Since the OP now has an 8050 maybe 1 of these methods can supplement the other. The other thing I thought was to maybe put the 8050 on an overhead angle-poise mic arm - a bit like a radio station but out of picture. This would allow the lab techs (or whoever is front of camera) to very easily reposition the mic as they moved around and remain as 'on mic' as possible.
  13. Hey Jez, any chance it's a dodgy connection with or within the battery sledge? A meter will tell you if it's the latter.
  14. True. Hard to imagine a when I would apply this to an ISO in the production process. I meant only in the context of a production preview as neither the NA or the picture LUT used for preview purposes on set will necessarily make it through to be heard or seen in the release.
  15. In a way you make the case for the 8 series NR quite well. By this I mean, spend 3k on Cedar DNS, may be it's tempting to use it for more than just previewing what post can do by way of a clean up (if you've managed to get production to cough up some extra for it being in the bag). At $600 though, NA is easier to incorporate into the workflow and if you owned an 8 series why wouldn't you? In 1 context the sound you doing is going to get no more finessing than the picture editor will find time for, and the other context the tracks will be worked by experienced post sound people who work the magic perhaps only someone like yourself (post and PSM) can have so much of an informed idea of. $600 to remove the frown from my face while I consider how much of a problem a shitty BG will be in post sounds worth it to me. No one wants to hire the guy who stops for every BG sound. In short, at the very least it is the audio equivalent of the LUTs used on set to monitor log footage.
  16. Holy reducers! I knew something like this was coming sometime - didn't think it would be quite so soon. Poor old 6 series - how soon before producers ask about 'Noise Assist'?
  17. Side facing, sometimes called 'Side Address'. Not seen a 'Side Address' shotgun mic - hard to imagine. Fair to work on the principle a manufacturer does their best to make the polar pattern of a 'Side Address' (or any other mono) microphone, rotationally symmetrical at 0ΒΊ to the axis of the polar pattern - unless otherwise stated (I would have thought anyway).
  18. Not many mono microphones are marketed as having non-rotational-symmetrical directivity. They do exist: https://www.lightsoundjournal.com/2016/10/23/microtech-gefell-kem-970-the-popes-microphone-at-blue-note/ I Imagine something like the this could in theory be extracted/extrapolated (?) from an ambisonic array as well.
  19. 1 life, 1 spine. Even if they invent spinal transplants, I don;t imagine they'll be available to many without a universal health care system 😷.
  20. πŸ™Œ IMHO Aside from conveniently extending the Nova ecosystem to 16 channels of wireless, being useable with any pro recorder (eg the other brands folks' might want to keep using even if they own a Nova and/or older BU machines) will get more people into Zaxcom's latest RX and be potentially quite disruptive to the SL2 (only compatible with SD 8 series). Since no one else is really very close to Zaxcom's wireless workflow and if you want 8 digital channels in a really small box this is it. I imagine there will be strong interest from Cantar and SD users (even if it means attaching an AES 'wart' to their new machines ,'). Using older (but fully serviceable) recorders as BUs is not unreasonable and most operators own a diverse range of equipment so i'm glad Zaxcom have extended this possibility (beyond the Nova and RX12) for the MRX system. AES/Analogue I/O with 16 x 16 Dante and POE are also very nice complimentary features. I'm interested to know how much of Zaxcom's highly evolved workflow is accessible with just this box. Ie. is 1 touch frequency coordination and assignment possible from RX8 (without a Nova)?

  22. Post on the FB group reports SSM works (in mode 3) with Wisy.
  23. I guess quite few folks have thought similar (and even said it). But this is something of a trend (by some) and is rendering perfectly good recorders all but obsolete as even BU machines. Eg if you dropped the cash on just 1 Nova with MRX414 installed, you'd have to pack your Nomad / Maxx with their current wireless set-up to have redundancy. Ie. No gradual transition to a newer set-up, just all or noth... Do MRX414 work fully with RX12?
