  1. But hopefully by the time that avid fixes these issues and pt is usable again, users will have realized Nuendo is superior. I like pt for mixing in a way, but when it comes to editing it's unusable, just like John says. And it's weird that file management still exist cus Avids been doing bins and proper sorting for... Ever? File management and lack of clip gain (now pt has that, but still) and "region thinking" is what made me go to nuendo. Once you've learned how to mix properly in Nuendo, there's no reason to use pt again.
  2. ...even Avids editor suites have better file management.
  3. Bouncing is for musicians. Linearity is so much more important in that area. Destructive record is the best way for film soundies. I don't understand why they can't fit an offline bounce in there... (null)
  4. Seriously tho, I'm a happy two-timer, but nuendo is my ideal lover and she just seems to care for me as well she gives me all that pro tools has and more, but with love. (null)
  5. And "sound is very important to us" is a common misconception. Sound in TV is PARAMOUNT! Picture is totally unusable without sound, even more so in TV than film. So we are just as important, if not more, as the camera(s). added: And only we are the experts of what we do. I hate the fact that producers look on us like we're grumpy old guys wanting only the finest gear and the most expensive mics. We need our shit to work, just as much as the cameras. If they want 4 channels they come to us and ask us for a solution and we give our advise. And they think it's okay to just dismiss that knowledge and advise? Why? That's when we get grumpy. At least me. On my show now we got the gopro hero2 cameras all over the place, and I'll bet $100 editors gonna say "hey we don't hear the sound on these cams" and production will go nuts saying "where's the sound!?" . Sigh...
  6. We have to teach them. I'm doing the "Kniven mot strupen" (Swedish "Kitchen Nightmares") Right now and I had some complaints and remarks about the equipment they basically forced on me. I got to struggle a lot to get my demands through, but I did it. Phew. And I did it through making friends with the DP, and the director. Then go to the production, tell them what WE feel. And then the production can tell the contractors to get US the stuff that WE need. Worked for me. OT: I'm also thinking about the Nomad. We should put some pressure on SoundWare to get them.. I talked to Markus over there and he couldn't give me a straight answer on when they get them... and it doesn't seem like they want to tell the customers it's coming so... OP: Maybe an external device on the camera could do the trick... Like the MixPre-D. With the 552 you could plug the A output in the rear, the Mixpre goes in the front, and the output B from 552 goes to the MixPre... I dunno. Sounds like a big snake. Nomad (or other multitrack recorders/mixers) IS the way to go. We can't have producers and/or editors demanding us to monitor four iso channels on a device that we don't even carry ourselves, that's just insane... And BTW, the Nomad 8 is 41000 SEK (ex VAT). Not expensive to me if you think about the perks.
  7. Isn't film "High Definition". Isn't it "Ultimate Definition" even?
  8. Cool! That's brilliant! I'll have to look into where to get it in Sweden. (null)
  9. Looks real nice! Good job! (null)
  10. I have found the dpas to be quite shifting quality wise. If I line up four dpas, hard wired, Same gain settings on the mixer, no eq or compression, there will be quite drastic differences between the lavs. Ime, all dpas are pretty different.. Not just model wise. I use the 4060 on my show, no problems with cable noise or other noise(s). So you could actually just have bad luck Dan. (null)
  11. Dunno mike. Maybe you oughta contact the manufacturer to find out! (null)
  12. User input the iPhone app: I had it working one time. Easy as pie; I went to Jan's G+ profile and saw the " Join the hangout" button, nice and big. Yesterday I thought I'd try that again. No button. I dunno if it's a setting you need to do in the hangout itself or if it's just a split personality app. Btw, I think it's funny that in a web browser it says "Google+ hangout with extras". I wouldn't wanna hangout with extras other than on set. See ya laterz
  13. Good for you! And congrats on the job. After long jobs, a short vacation is in order. Same country's fine. As long as it's away far from work or colleagues and with family. No friends (they tend to be in the business) Just family (snap. My wife's a director...) Welcome out in the open
  14. Beautiful new logo jan! Also, rabbit hole is one of the best American indies I've seen lately. Must've been a good shoot! And Jeff.. Well. My own CV is peanuts in comparison to everybody, but I have the same philosophy; credits and some references possibly. Focus on the good things (i mean positive, i dont have education for example, and no DL so I just don't mention it...) and the most recent. At least here we're too lazy to read long cvs so I keep it simple.
  15. Geez you guys have more snow than us vikings do :S
  16. Hmmm... 15 meters of range max? Cool product tho (null)
  17. My magic moment was a student film, actually.. We were shooting a scene where two women were to give birth. We were filming it in a hospital, a real delivery ward. So we shot some close ups of the two women screaming, pretending to be giving birth. And then we brought in the newborns. (They were actually just born, 2 days or so. My wife was the 2nd AD and she was so proud she had come up with newly borns on this student film when Star Wars didn't) Never heard such a quiet set. Everyone just relaxed, no nervousness, no anger. And the parents of the kids sat by the monitors and wept, as did we all. It was a sacred moment. And it sounded really, really good.
  18. Now you know our national anthem. Congratulations! Jokes aside, that tune is actually now the world's most listened to music. Pretty bizarre. How did we get here? The time pie chart is interesting. I spend a lot of time on here, of course. I'm guessing I won't be as much once I start working... I'm guessing work is like 20% of my time and trying to get one is about 50%. Where the rest would be a mix of looking at/reading about equipment and eating, sleeping, being with my family, changing diapers all that jazz. I wonder what people think of our time consumption though. That chart should be fun...
  19. Interesting! Like an apache server on the phone. Great!
  20. I guess you can. Gaffer's can't. Who's the stronger one?
  21. DOPs are PITAs sometime. Once, a very inexperienced DOP got worried sick by the fact that my mic (NTG-3) was matte gray rather than black. He was worried the gray might reflect light in the actor's face. Yes it would, had it been in direct HMI-light facing the actor straight on. Same DP told gaffers to dim a light. Way before any gaffer or best boy even got to the dimmer he said 'That's perfect guys!'
  22. It's a game for phones. Stupid thing. If you have Chrome, you can try it. It's a career changer. http://chrome.angrybirds.com/
  23. I too use DPAs. They have a great sound and they ARE sturdy. I've never had one break on me and I've used mine on kids (On swings. With the transmitter swinging like from a noose...) They are expensive but, sounds really good. The only other lav I've tried that sort of has competed is actually the Rode Lav. They sound pretty similar, but IMHO the Rode is a lot harder to hide. DPA has the lovely (expensive) plastic concealers too.
  24. In Sweden, Angry birds theme is the national anthem these days. I kinda feel sorry for all the gaffers and best boys now...
