  1. Don't do it! I'm not going to tell you exactly the same things as the others have, I agree with them 100% though, BUT, one key point they're missing IMHO and you're also missing out on is: If the job sucks you are stuck with a sucky job and it will be on your resume and in your memory backpack for future jobs. You might be pessimistic of the future and of your career. It's a dangerous path. I've been down it a couple of times. So not worth it. I can tell you that I've been on so many bad shoots with lots of inexperienced people. I've been fortunate enough to have been working on "proper jobs" simultaneously with the "improper jobs" so I could tell the difference. But if I had been doing bad jobs before I started with the good ones, I'm pretty sure I would've been quite cynical about ANY job really. One bad shoot is enough to ruin your whole life. Or at least a good portion of your life.
  2. A Woody Allen flick would be nice too. Lots of great dialog there. Deconstructing Harry even has a film shoot! However I don't enjoy his latest films... They don't have that quirkyness.. Deconstructing Harry Annie Hall and then I can't think of the English name for the film i'm thinking about... Hm. Small time crooks as well. underrated movie!
  3. Being Swedish I'd have to say I wish I worked on any Bergman film. But first and foremost his last (and best imo) feature Fanny and Alexander. Anyone here seen that? It's five hours long. Feels like two. Other than that I'd say Lost in Translation. Fantastic movie. One of my greatest experiences and still gets me. Amazing flick. Must have been a killer shoot. Apocalypse Now as well. I hear it was crazy, but it's still a masterpeice. Have seen the Eleanor Coppola "behind the brains"-movie heart of darkness I think it's called. That was awesome. Would love to be a part of that insane-ness. Great actors Back to modern day again I'd also say Babel by Alejandro Inarritu. Brilliant. Lots of environments n locations allover the world, fantastic performances by all the actors, MUTE story. Omg. Written on a messy iPhone in the cold. Sorry for any typo or otjer text anomalies.
  4. Sccchhhh don't tell the Nagra generation you're complaining about weight!!! I simply wouldn't accept it. I would say "I can't do it. Either minimize the number of tracks you want recorded or change the TX/RX to a lighter version cus I'll be dead by the end of this production" Seriously. That sounds like... Crap.
  5. But that's different though... They would have to update the whole sensor and have it switched. But the case with the nomad (at least that's what they tell you of course) is that it's interiors are the same on all the "models".. So it would just be... weird if they'd have to be sent back to factory. Weirdness
  6. Must be by firmware. I don't think this highly anticipated product would first be sold to the customer, then have a recall request just to update the software? No way José. Too much money there.
  7. The moment it comes to Sweden (and I have the money) I'm buying it. I don't care how many features are missing right now, it's going to rock when all of it's there. Look at the iPhone 4S. Its primary selling point (SIRI) is only functional in three languages (and what about accents?) They're releasing it anyway cus people will buy it nonetheless. Noones complaining.
  8. Zaxcom's just doing a Microsoft and they've been at it for years... what's the problem?
  9. I once had a DOP tell me not to come too close with the CMIT cus it's blue... :S One thing I've really learned from shootings is: "Stay out of the light" now it's just natural to me. I can be invisible with green shirts even. If I know where to be, I'm fine. Hell. everyone but the sound crew can wear any color jackets and sunglasses and other heavily reflective crap... I say get a chrome microphone and a head lamp. Hah! Take that you fanned HMIs and cameras! And put a little reflector screen on the Boom caddy as well They can fix it in post
  10. I use a system called Sprend www.sprend.se Hopefully it will work for you as well, it's a swedish server I think...
  11. Is it a problem because if the metadata is wrong, then the filename will be wrong and then noone knows what file it is?
  12. If you have the clapper read the take number/name before clapping, then yes.
  13. The camera comes from a sunglass manufacturer so I'm not too surprised. Audio just isn't cool enough to be thought of in the making of a camera. RED's focused on good looks and "uniqueness". Among those features: fan from hell. But, if you look at it from the picture side (and most certainly from the post perspective) it's a great camera with high dynamic range and high bit rates and what not. And I think that's what puts most people on. And price of course.
  14. Yes I do. Extreme cold is plain stupid for anything and anyone to be around in. So I do understand fully. I also figured that while I know the Devas and Fusion recorders do well in cold, I just assumed the Nomad would do so as well. BUT, as I actually consider buying one of these in the near future and winter being 6 months and freezing all the time over here, I don't feel like buying a product only useful in the summer/warmer periods. So I guess I'll have to wait, or move to LA. ADDED: Oh and I forgot to say: I was just checking to see if there was any testing done, thought maybe Glenn knew, and if he doesn't and noone else knows, that's AOK. Just want to see if there'd been any testing in those conditions. Point: I don't wanna buy a Cantar.
  15. I am aware of this, just wanted to know from Zaxcom if it's been tested in some kind of freezer/cold storage area (don't know how you do cold tests of stuff...), or if Jack had tested it in other harsh conditions. It is a critical aspect for me since I live in a cold country, and so it should be an important aspect to consider for Zaxcom as well, before release even.
  16. Slightly off topic I presume but I still don't want to start a whole new thread about it: How does the Nomad perform in cold weather? Like -20 c and less (0 F and less) Have there been any testing made for this? Sent Glenn a PM, no response as of yet. Thought it might be interesting for other people to know as well how the nomad performs in these conditions..
  17. Generally though, the limiters on the 788T aren't as sharp and "transparent" as the 744T for example.. which is weird. Dunno if it's the physical amps or the software... That goes for the headphone amp as well.
  18. I can't see anything about sampling rate or bit depth. Looks a bit plasticky as well, but still the features seem good. Hope it's durable and okay to use in cold weather!
  19. It depends Sorry for stealing the line senator but I just had to. Hope you're not invoicing for that.. Seriously though, In the beginning of my cmit career I used the on mic settings constantly, but after some time I changed my mind and went for "let post deal with it". But it sounds real good so there's no shame in using them. Just wanted post to be able to decide... Added: And when I used the on mic settings I only ever touched the low cut and treble boost. The treble boost is good if cmit's in a zepp. Congrats on your purchase! Killer mics Did you get the regular or the super though?
  20. I've used Ski-bags on occasion for blankets. I have my blankets bolted to a small piece of wood so they are easy to hang on a stand. So I just roll them up and stuff them in that long ski bag In the vans we've rented over the yeara there's almost always a small compartment right above the driver's seat that can serve well as a blanket storage
  21. Judging by the name (Karri), he's from Finland so -20 is nothing. When you get down to -40 that's when you start thinking about survival.
  22. One of my foley projects in film school was a soccer game. That was really cool when we mixed that with some audience and commentator tracks!
  23. What's up with putting fans in everything!? Ever heard of water-cooling!?
