I recently delivered a reel of nitrate film to the Library of Congress film storage facility in Culpeper VA. A friend in KC had a copy of one of Bing Crosby's first films and donated it to the Library of Congress. Thanks to George Willeman, nitrate vault manager, for giving me a tour! They currently don't give tours so I really appreciated him taking the time to show me around. Thought Id share a few pictures. I only saw part of the facility and plan to take Mr Willeman up on his offer to come back. Id like to of course see the audio lab too. If you're ever in the area they have a really nice theater and show films every Friday and Saturday night for free. George said they are trying to work out being able to give tours to the public. I gained 20 lbs. on a 55 day shoot last year that I'm slowly taking back off. The food was good and I ate WAY too much craft services junk food during the day.

This is off topic but I want to ask if your cables from the 411 to the 788 had their shield tied to the connector shell? I made a set like this for my 788t w CL-8 and it seems to be fine. I have used Block 19,20, 25 and 26 in the bag with the 788.

+1 Great show!! I watched the Wrecking Crew 2 times on pay per view last weekend. I grew up with all that music, been playing bass in bands ever since. I thought I heard Carol didn't agree with them being called the Wrecking Crew. Whether she likes the movie or not it should help get her recognition from people who have no idea how much she contributed the music of that era and like me are interested in also hearing her side of the story.

Ive only used my Marshall M-LYNX-702 on one 4 day shoot and had no problems. I was able to get tech support on the phone in minutes for a question I had. Used outside on my cart on a sunny day. Good image quality.

Like all of these kind of incidents the really story is a little different. It all happened exactly like I said but the guy actually fired a shotgun and had no intention to shoot anyone. They arent letting the guy back near us till we are finished here and we have police on set today.

Im currently working on a low budget film in VA. Its a Civil War era film and today we were filming a battle scene on a semi wooded, mostly cleared hillside. We all heard a shot fired, not on set, but close to it. I figured it was someone target shooting a little too close by. We are in a rural area and there are several houses near us. I started rolling on a scene and a few seconds later I hear cut and people are running past me towards our base camp. I'm assuming someone got hurt but was puzzled as to why they were running away from the action. I then heard someone say there is a guy with an assault rifle and we should all run. We did! Around 70 cast, crew and extras, ran down the hill and some hid in brush. Turns out there was a drunk who lives adjacent to the set that was hanging out harassing people and he was told to leave. He said, "Well Ill go get my gun then!". Went home and fires his rifle into the air. Some of the crew saw him do this and were afraid he was going to start coming after us. 911 was called and the police were there pretty fast. I could hear the police yelling for him to come out with his hands up. They took him away and we are going back to the location tomorrow. No one was hurt except for a couple people having panic attacks. Some period weapons were lost too when everyone dropped what they had and ran. I hope tomorrow ends with less excitement.

I took my battery back to Advance Auto where I bought it and they tested it. It tested ok and the guy said it was actually a really strong battery testing above specs. He also told me it is the battery I should be using and is made for running lots of accessories on a boat or RV and made for deep discharge. He also said the Red Top is for cranking power and the Yellow Top was designed to do both. So why is the yellow top better than the Blue Top for what we do?. Ive got 14 gauge to the battery right now. Ill attempt to return the Blue Top for a Yellow.

Thanks. I will do that. Ill take it to be tested. Will also have a look at the Yellow Top. Thanks. This morning metered the battery with no load at 13.1V. After hooking up to PowerMax without AC for half an hour I disconnected the battery and metered directly to it. It read 12.4V.

I have not put a regular charger on it. Will read voltage tomorrow though. Will put a charger on it asap. I bought it last week.

I have a new Blue Top battery on my cart into a PSC Powermax original version. When running the Powermax with battery attached off AC my 788t reads 13.9 to 14 volts. When I disconnect AC the voltage goes down to just over 12 to 12.5. Then within about an hour according to the 788t display the battery is down to 11.4. I have the 788t with CL-8 running 5 or 6 channels, no phantom power, battery charging tuned off. I also have plugged into the Powermax 4 Lectro recvrs. 2-411a, 1-210d and a power hungry 200d. Plus USB to keep my iPhone charged for CL-WiFi. I dont see how the battery could run down so fast with what I have on it. I also tried running the cable directly from the battery to the cart and the same thing happened. Ive had it on the float charge of the Powermax for around 3 days while using the cart on AC. I did not charge it with a regular charger when I bought it. Ive always worked out of a bag and the cart 12v power is new to me so just looking for opinions on the battery dropping so fast. I think it may have sat on the shelf at the store for too long with out a charge.

After a break and lunch I did what Scott suggested and plugged the slate into the 744t and looked at the 744s jam menu. They are frame accurate after about an hour and a half so any error I saw was from the display.

Thanks everyone. If it wasnt such an easy shoot where I have plenty of time to jam frequently I would have done more testing. I will definitely do that the next time I work with this slate. Client said they would have it checked out. Your comment wasnt even close to sounding like the Senator Marc. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks Charlie. I wondered about the display being frame accurate. What made me not sure though was I couldnt get a single pic to match and I did get a couple that matched when they were connected four hours earlier. The shoot is an easy one though sit down interviews all day so I can keep jamming or stay connected. Thanks again.

I have a clients TS-3 that Ill be using for a shoot soon so I jammed the slate with my 744t, unplugged the 744t from the slate and let them run for 4 hours. It appears that after 4 hours the slate is ahead of the 744t by somewhere between 1 and 2 frames. Both are set to 23.976. Position 4 on the TS-3. To check them I took a phone pic of the 2 next to each other. To prove to myself that would work I took pictures of them before I pulled the plug from the slate and they were the same. Its hard for me to tell how far off they are. With the display changing so fast some of the numbers are just a blur while changing from one to another. The 744t has been into the shop since new but its been a couple of years. The TS-3 Im not sure about. It is probably an older one and may have never been serviced. Ill be sure to re-jam the slate every couple of hours. The recorder and slate may be the least of my TC worries though since Im also dealing with a Red One camera. I would think the Deneke and the 744 shouldn't drift at all in a work day let alone in only 4 hours. Does the Deneke over time and as it gets older need to be re-calibrated? What about the Ambient in the 744t? Should I be concerned about 2 frames over 4 hours? I think I should be. Before unplugging the sync cable About 4 hours later: Robert Szabo Kansas City, MO
