  1. Had the same issue once when pt couldn't access some files that were changed and erasing databases worked. remember you should FIRST trash and then erase from trash. works most of time. if it doesn't work check the backups, maybe the last autosave will be erased but the one next to it should be there. as well check prlugins. waves especially - update them if required. you can troubleshoot the plugins by moving them to different location and adding them one by one back to its native folder. here is the link that might help with database removal: http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/delete-pro-tools-preferences-databases-for-windows-xp-windows/
  2. Yeah in some cases it makes no sense but sometimes metal-plastic windows that are supposed to work as "hermetic" seal Let the noise in, because of poor quality, damage or bad frame placement due to wall iregularities. This products ofc wont solve the problem but might win a couple of db's in SN battle.
  3. recently stumbled upon this product. Anyone used this or similar products on jobs? I buy something that distantly resembles this at local stores for door and window cracks and thought of giving this a try, but would appreciate some info prior to the move ... if you got any ofc. http://www.audimutesoundproofing.com/Categories/All-Products/Acoustic-Seals.aspx
  4. looks like the not-mentioned actors profile hits on imdb went up recently (as did his ego). he's a sad b-skilled lowbob. He's lucky you didn't back slap his face at the end of the day Tom... he deserved it imho. ok, I have this story I just remembered while reading Marks post about overworking in post. I'm not sure if I should be posting this, but whatever 3 years ago I got an offer from a production company who were well established in local commercial business. They wanted to shoot a feature. a comedy... Since they had no idea how to plan a feature shoot, what followed was a month of stress and crazy overtimes (21 hour shifts with 6 hour breaks between "days" at the last week). By the end of the show I had producer approach me and ask if I would do the post for them. He said, since the movie's got to be at theaters by new year (was a new year related film) I only had 10 (!) days for doing post. I was kind of burned down and wanted to spend time with family (my son was born during that show) but got greedy and took the job since they offered very good rates. MISTAKE NUMBER 1 - mixing 2 hour film in ten days (with one assistant). MISTAKE NUMBER 2 - having not enough skill to do it since all previous post jobs where either documentary or very short/easy features. MISTAKE NUMBER 3 - Im on the finish line, full of coffee junk-food and sorrow. about 50 hours w/o sleep(in the end it was 68h). Brain turning off/on randomly. 5 minute blackouts every now and then. Im working on a scene in restaurant where a guy makes proposal to his girl. In the middle of his line he gets interrupted by a phone call. I record the cellphone sound ... and w/o reason I also record a fart sound with my mouth. I put the "fart" on the timeline. its turns out funny and we are laughing hysterically. ok, delete this region, put phone sound in, roll on... yesyesyes... Im reaching deadline and rendering the mix. PT bouncing in realtime dont you hate it sometimes? Im out of the room on fresh air smoking a cigarette. I come back make coffee and fall asleep on couch. some time later I wake up and go to mixing room just on time to hear the "fart sound" instead of phone. I press cancel and re-bounce with proper region. I cant imagine what would have been if that slipped away from me and got to the theater, because they didn't even had time to watch/check film with mixed sound before premiere. ........
  5. Vin, where you operating in extreme cold? Had it happen twise in very cold environment and warming it up helped. As well I have been adviced not to lock them very hard.

  7. How good are the preamps on fr-2? Im thinking of buyin one for ambience recordings. So that I dont have to take my main recorder out of the cart for that.
  8. From the neverending list of mistakes i would generalise the following: never give up unless you are absolutely 100% sure you have done everything that you could. And it doesnt matter if your effort had little or no effect on the outcome - at the end of the day you wont be blaming yourself and wont take itt home.
  9. had exactly the same thing once, was almost deaf @ one ear. You will be back on track soon! Best wishes mate!
  10. "boom him from bellow" sounds famillier guys?
  11. boom op grabbing the pole like a lifesaving rope 1 meter away from frame in extreme closeup people who whisper during take as if whisper is something undetectable by the mic
  12. still cant read whats on this hat. my life has no meaning....
  13. about MKH50 - what Eric Tolin said + sometimes you may feel you want a bit more side noise rejection since it's still a hypercardioid mic. otherwise you will be happy 70/80% of the time. Once I was shooting in disabled childrens center - wide shots in big reverbing rooms with a lot of screaming kids, then quiet interviews in separate rooms and some shots in the backyard ext. and i was glad I had taken that mic! as for MKH8060 - I haven't tried it, but people seem to be happy about it. browse this forum. also watch this vid:
  14. Compared to mk41 Mkh50 has a bit tighter pattern if I remember correctly. More like mkh40. And while I love 50 and have used it as allaround int/ext mic, there are situations where its just not the right tool. Btw Have you considered mkh8060?

  18. When ofended people defend... Common knowledge
  19. love the demanding and professional tone of the letter
  20. I know, but since I was joking I wanted it to sound grotesque but on a serious note: if i was to do a ultraultraultraultra low budget movie I wouldn't hire a soundie. neither would I bother with lav's or anything like it. I'd just ask a friend to hold my ultraultraultra indie-friendly mic that sits on a self-made fishpole. its just a different field of play.
  21. WOW the industry was moving in a wrong direction for all this years ok, here's what Im gonna do: I'll buy 4 Zoom H4n's, hardwire them with my sankens and HIDE (actors gonna love it) them on talent. after I conservatively set up the gain, engage limiter, name the track and hit run I step aside for a some coffee, because I'll doubtlessly won't have anything to do. after the take, I'll run up to the talent to hit stop and playback all 4 units on at a time. then I'll do the notes tweak the lav's and stand-by for action and more coffee. at the end of the day I'll extract the files into my laptop and start sorting things out with scriptie. So what I get is 4 recorded tracks on machines with true 24bit ability, great pre's and AD's and flexible metadata entry...oh wait...I forgot the TC...damn!
  22. another one... looks like this is inevitable not only in the sense of advancing technologies and economical factors... though I like to Have and to HOLD.
