  1. I do not have this cable, but this PDF was sent to me from Comtek some time ago: AP-216-12-XLR3F_Audio_Power_Cord.pdf It powers the M-216 Op 7 via the mini input. The diagram does appear to show a ferrite collar.
  2. To achieve the idealistic--start at the same time every day--12 on 12 off, lunch would have to be included in the 12 hours. Normally we have a 30 min lunch, so that is 11.5 hours of pay under our contract. Whether we go into first meal penalty or not, we would never go into a second meal period. Begin at 7 AM, the plug is pulled at 7 PM, and then 12 hours remain for turnaround. 12 on 12 off does not necessarily mean 12 hours of wages. I don't see that the 12 on 12 off credo mentions 12 hours plus lunch. http://12on12off.weebly.com/
  3. Part of the beauty of 12 on 12 off is that production can start at the same time every day, say 7 AM. Of course elements such as actor or location availability, or the need for a night exterior, might cause an adjustment, but those could really be the exception to the rule. Crew members could have a predictable schedule, and a family life.
  4. Two years into a $7 billion project and just 25 people have been hired, many of them focused on public relations. Worse, numerous existing communications networks that were being used were put on indefinite hold so this new network could be built, meaning in some areas emergency communications is actually worse for our $7 billion. https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20140304/13082526428/our-7-billion-emergency-lte-network-appears-stuck-bureaucratic-purgatory.shtml
  5. Mr Hensley, Your utterance sounds as if you do not understand how an internship works. It sounds as if you did not read the article either. You do not simply "quit" an internship. In real life it takes a lot of advance work to get placed into an internship, with the probable promise of college credit or community service as a reward. This implies a certain "contract" if you will, and, in the case of a summer internship, if an intern left the position they may be out of the running for that summer, interrupting the flow of their education track. The article states that the interns were given menial tasks that should have been done by a properly hired employee, which is not in the scope of an internship. When the intern discovers that that is the case they might explore what their recourse options are, but to simply quit mid-project could put them in deep water both with the industry and with their college guidance resources. Upon further reflection, and with the mature knowledge of the current abusive system that is being revealed, these former interns decided to take their issue to court, helping future interns as well. Simply quitting may have left them with no recourse or with a record of the abuse.
  6. The sound mixer on Orchestra Wives is Fred Lau. He has an solid list of great sounding hit movies. I saw Run Silent Run Deep this weekend- excellent sound work. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0490538/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1
  7. "He has supported the voluntary incentive auctions that the F.C.C. has been planning. The agency is seeking to reclaim airwaves from television broadcasters and sell them to wireless phone companies for use in mobile broadband services." http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/02/business/tom-wheeler-telecom-investor-is-fcc-nominee.html?hpw
  8. Sam Peckinpah did not do an interview for this piece:
  9. Bill Ruck explained that it was indeed a requirement to have the FCC Rules And Regulations in one's possession when operating the equipment, but that an electronic copy (eCFR Part 74) was acceptable. Download a copy and keep it on your set laptop or your iBooks app.
  10. Bypass the recorder? Then where is the mix, or the dailies mix? A job as a sound file acquisitionist I suppose might be appropriate in some specific situations.
  11. It doesn't apply to the OP's scenario, but the 788 does not record mp3 transcription files, so it will not replace the 744 for certain producer's needs.
  12. There are a couple of AD's in New York that do the "Roll Sound" routine ridiculously early (long before everyone is ready), followed by repeatedly asking the boom op if they have speed, as a means of moving things along. I must say these jobs can make for some of the least pleasing working environments around, with the set going under bells possibly before the AD team has even brought the entire BG artists onto the set and the last looks being called. This is an instance of the AD "running the set and issuing the orders" incorrectly.
  13. The craft service activity appears to be scripted. The camera films them. Notice the megaphone. Anyone care to provide a synopsis- translated to English?
  14. Please post links to what you've found. These look quite elegant: http://www.handlesunlimited.com/
  15. Local 52 members can join the Actors CU: http://actorsfcu.com/membership/who-can-join/ Many people who live in NYC are eligible to join The LES CU: https://lespeoples.org/about-us/how-do-i-join/
  16. For that type of event ALWAYS have a mic on a pole ready to go. As a last ditch you could have run out and miked one of the PA speakers and had the interview.
  17. The Remote Audio Speakeasy V3a is the tool for the job. It will have longevity and will be useful for future situations.
  18. @ Jan: Does it appear that this non-locking latch will work on the Star Case aluminum drawer? http://www.avalive.com/Middle-Atlantic/LATCH/16185/productDetail.php
  19. In the Preview application PDFs can be filled in using the Annotate tools. A "signature" can be created using the handwriting font. This works quite reliably, and has been improved with OS 10.6. Of course the occasional locked PDF will not allow any annotations.
  20. A go-to flow chart to help one decide if they'll do that unpaid gig: http://www.aphotoeditor.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/workforfree.jpg
  21. I know that there is loss in 100' of RG58 50ohm cable. I did non-scientific testing, i.e. I swapped out a 15' cable with a 100' cable and saw no discernible difference on the Lectro UCR411a display RF LEVEL read-out, nor did I see the ANTENNA PHASE INDICATOR begin to flip more than usual. What I did see was that when my utility ran the long cable out to full length and "boomed" line of sight my reception improved and the shot was successful. The kit mentioned here and in previous threads may be appropriate in some circumstances. I think in the case of a 2 person walk and talk down a NYC street using a combination of 2 lavs and a wireless boom (on the same block, with a shared antenna pair), that remoting the receivers and/or using the CAT5 or other snake, may prove to be a bit over-kill. I did look at the links provided though none seemed to point to a single snake containing two lines.
  22. Looking for suggestions for 2x 50 ohm BNC low-loss antenna cables bundled in one cable for 100+ ft run: pliable, easy to coil in cold weather, durable. Specifically to run a pair of Lectro SNA600 out from cart for exterior walk-n-talk.
  23. I have been very happy with my set-up. http://jwsound.net/SMF/index.php?topic=1448.msg32219#msg32219
  24. I again came across this article containing a quick discussion on 75 ohm vs. 50 ohm cable. It seems to find that based on the specs, 75 ohm cable might come out ahead in the loss per 100' comparison. Wolf? http://www.audiosystemsgroup.com/Which_Coax_for_Wireless_Mics.pdf
