  1. wouldn't that be nice Phillip. It was a long 10 days in Dallas...then Baton Rouge! Hoping that break is soon!!!!
  2. Thankfully in TX we still have our vehicles and places to park em. Although my gear will fit nicely in my Prius, so no complaints there!!! I have started a countdown clock on my iPhone showing days until I am 66! Then I will think about a real retirement...until then, its full speed ahead....
  3. Without getting into specifics, Crew Connection is a legit company. I was at the kitchen table when the idea was hatched. That said, I have never worked for them...didn't like the way it was setup, the BS of insurance, etc. They do a helluva lot of booking around the world... And yes the best way to deal with this is to raise your rate 25% to cover what they take and for the hassle of all of it.
  4. I'm morphing into the Al mode.... "no not today....and you want what for how much?" That feels good at times. I still get out, and doing more TV news than anything, there is an adrenaline rush often, that keeps me going. The long hours are now such a part of my life, can't seem to shake 'em! Actually sitting in a hotel room this morning after a very hard, hot and wet 7 days and word as to what is next is an hour away...paid the bills online, dropped a few notes to friends and will take whatever comes. At almost 64 hope, figure, wanna go a few more years. In this part of the biz the phone will stop ringing at some point cuz I will say no to hurricanes and floods once too often. But until then....
  5. I would think a chat with the editor or producer would be in order. Here's what you want, here's what I can do for you. Discuss with them, and work with their desires. It may not be the best scenerio but it makes them happy. You can always record a backup or iso tracks and have them at the ready when their plan fails miserably..
  6. Alan Lomax archive now online... http://www.npr.org/sections/therecord/2012/03/28/148915022/alan-lomaxs-massive-archive-goes-online
  7. Gracias Jim for "shedding some light...on a light!"
  8. Yep...to Rich and Jack's method. Many, many times!!!!!
  9. Start from the beginning....SD302 to the camera...check for buzz. Start adding the parts until you ID the offending, part, cable, connector, whatever! None of this is AC powered correct?
  10. BINGO Matt... The new IFB system uses a Pilot tone of 29.997. The old 187 does not do that. THANKS....
  11. Cleaning out boxes and found an almost new 187 transmitter. Thinking I would pair this a few of the new R1A-VHF receivers. But I find deviation in the specs for the IFB of 20khz and the transmitter 15khz. Guessing the audio would be thin and pinched!! Thoughts??????

I heard him speak in 1996 or so....have an autographed copy of his book, Notes From the Wild. His TED talk is pretty interesting also! I too have a spot I go to get away, and while I've not recorded there, can indeed hear the difference in the years I've been going there...
