  2. LOOOOOOONG time subscriber to Nuts and Volts...Popular Electronics..
  3. My theory is ask for whatever works for you. Double, triple, whatever. If the client balks, stay home and enjoy whatever you do on Dec. 25. That said if it is a union job, I am pretty sure it is double time all day...
  4. Hope the first thing you invest is a LARGE, NEON "GONE FISHING" sign....surely you won't be sitting in there if the fishing is good!!!! Have a blast in the new venture.... cleve
  5. You done good, grasshopper! Move on and remember the good times. It would appear these folks do not really get it, and probably never will...let them beat up some other poor fellow until he bails, and the next one, and the next one. We have all been there, albeit 40+ years ago for me. And well lived to tell about it. Congrats on the cojones and your future....
  6. +1...my 2 have done me right for almost 40 years!!!!!
  7. YES....years ago, I used my 816 one day and it worked beautifully! The next day it had a static noise on movement! I opened it up and found a capacitor almost in pieces. I cried!!!! Service quote from Sennheiser was way more than I wanted to spend.... Open it up and do a visual inspection.... GOOD LUCK....
  8. Had the same experience Phillip when I called them. So recabling became DIY on the spot! You may have given me an idea for removing pesky wasps nest under the eaves at the lake house! I hate to submit both of them for museum status, but the K-TEK and LOON poles I use most of the time are just fine!!!! cleve
  9. Thanks Rich.... I'm still in possession of a long and a short LTM!!! Don't know any balloon lighting guys, but if I can get the long one recabled, the short one may find a new home in a new profession. cleve
  10. Quoting Will Smith in MEN IN BLACK....(FYI, I am one also)) I have two LTM poles...both need a new internal cable! Any idea how to get the sections to separate?...the locking collars for telescoping are fine. The others don't move at all...not even sure they are supposed to. I've got cable, connectors, soldering iron awaiting.... Any help appreciated.... cleve
  11. Sad indeed Jeff...very sad! I had the good fortune to meet he and his brother years ago, when there was talk of taking the two of them to Cuba and have them get with the guys who really keep old cars running. The project didn't get far, but what a joy to sit in on a broadcast and later have lunch with the two of them.
  12. contact rycote :-) Oh that's no fun......
  13. Remember this Rycote shock mount? Not for me, but a fellow soundie asked me the other day what glue to use to put one back together. Seems its splitting at the bottom from use. I had no idea... any thoughts? Cleve
  14. There is a list of countries that honor and require a carnet! Once we got to the EU, it was not necessary as long as we were between EU member countries. Yes, USA has asked where is the carnet? I tell them we were in a country that did not require it, and they were good with that. Mexico one time asked for a deposit. I told them gear was very old and ancient technology... probably not worth $100. They just shrugged and waved us on thru! It may have actually been a bribe, but no one got a penny! Producer was scared to death when I started negotiating that the gear would wind up in a Mexican warehouse somewhere never to be seen again...he bought several rounds of drinks when he did not have to pay the deposit...

  16. Whether you are a Jeter fan, or not. A Yankees fan, or not, or even a sports fan, or not, this is 90 seconds of good stuff!!! http://youtu.be/xfgS1lvqX8I
  17. Ok, TEXAS sound brothers. Let us know what you think. Seriously considering one for a job in Nov...
  18. Good to know it may have been a less than perfect fit of the grounding clamp. The other fellow and I talked and he is going to look at all of his and check the clamp. I'm a Sonotrim...B3...even Sony ECM 77(for certain settings) user! But Crew is right, you can never have too many mics. gracias...
  19. Ah, enlightenment for the uninformed. This is not a matter of the wiring making the mic too sensitive and creating noise down the cable, but just a COS 11 thing! Actually that previous thought is pretty far fetched...may order a couple of them today! Many thanks...cleve
  20. Not a regular user of the COS 11D, but last week was loaned one from the A sound guy so our stuff would be a closer match. Mine had horrendous cable noise...just a light touch or rubbing a shirt...even mounted visible outside the tie. This was with SMQV transmitters. The other fellow says he gets that with some and not others. He gave me another and it was fine. Is this wiring...universal vs. servo-bias? is the inclusion or lack of a capacitor in the wiring? Shedding any light on this would be appreciated. He would like them all to work fine, and I might go out and get a couple if they work as they are supposed to. thanks gang.... cleve
  21. Only one every now and then client still ask for linear TC! I think the files go overseas for transcription and I have been told many times, they just can't do time stamped files. Last time was about six weeks ago...like you, no feedback, so suppose all worked !!!
  22. Maybe a cardiod mic hidden at the hairline of the actress? My application was not a prank, but trying to get elderly folks to talk to a counselor without the intrusion of the camera and an obvious microphone. A semi-noisy environment, outside park setting, but it worked quite well. The counselor of course was able to sit fairly close to the folks and stay looking straight ahead.
  23. +1...been standing to solder for a couple of years, and find it much better. Threw down one of those gel kitchen mats to stand on, and never looked back.... But to the OP's real question...my last chair was a high directors chair and I had the bench on adjustable legs!
  24. I suspect he meant Dionics...but not until my last NP-1 takes its last gasp of lithium ion air. Then maybe I have drooled over the Audio Root boxes for some time now...just cuz they look cool. Me thinks my DIY distro will do nicely for quite awhile!!!
