  1. Checking my original membership date, Feb 2006 made me wonder exactly when did you kick off this effort???
  2. My how time flies...I had to go look, but I too have been here since 2006! I really had no idea! Party-poopers aside, read, post, lurk, respond, whatever, all 9000 of us make this a great resource!!!! Here's to 10,000..............
  3. I on the other hand have practical experience with cleaning with alcohol and then drinking some!!!! Seriously folks....I have had transmitters and at least one LMa in particular be so soaked in sweat, they did indeed start to produce some static. A good cleaning that night of the connector, after I left it dry, did the trick. The upside down mounting was my norm after that. The transmitter has never given me a problem. cleve
  4. I think that is PEERLESS leader!!!
  5. Well then keep fishing...eating your catch and enjoying yourself... See ya there.....
  6. Well if next year is NUMBER 25, we should all NOT work and attend. And get Eric's retired self out there, and Jan and Jeff and all the rest! I've never been but live vicariously thru the photos and posts! Getting all tingly just thinking about it cleve

  8. I've had a Hobie Cat in my life, of one sort or another for almost 50 years...followed his developments and exploits with a keen eye. (or is that ear?)
  9. I made the hour drive to the lake house today, just to take my Hobie 14 out for a short sail. Seemed only fitting. RIP Mr. Alter
  10. Hey Phil....pix of rear panel on PSC www page!
  11. +1 for one more 48vPH input! I have a live thing to mix next week and am dragging out my SQN 5! Why, because it is analog, and the idea of a digital board on something where 3 million people are watching is just more than my tired soul can handle. Just one little digi hiccup and I am SOL...the Baby Solice would be perfect. If I get more of these gigs, then will order once they are available.
  12. They may not haul around a second camera, but if production is up to snuff, they sure know where to get a camera, in case the primary goes down. And actually now with DLSRs, there is actually a second camera along on most jobs.
  13. Two Nagras...two HHB DAT recorders! Now a 552 and my trusty SQN mini with a Marantz two track recorder! Just gotta do it.
  14. The K6 is not a preamp but a power supply for the microphone. Providing ONLY a mic level signal out.
  15. syncsound....what problems did you have returning to the US? A carnet is not required for re-entry into the country. The CBP guys like to see them, and it probably hastens your time at the CBP desk, but as long as you have the declaration form, signed and sealed before you left, that should be it. cleve

That's impressive Jan...it was almost 25 for me! Then I found the volume pot!
  17. It's not the back of a converted bus.... http://elcosmico.com/stay/shelter/trailers/spartan-mansion
  18. Bingo, Jack has the answer. You have two separate entities providing the Olympic coverage we see here in the USA! The IOC hires a company to run the broadcast operation. It may be the IOBC or something along those lines. They provide the coverage of the events, all the live cameras, the studios, location audio, almost everything, including many of the graphics. NBC had to rent the studio from the IOBC for the Olympic stuff with Costas/Lauer/Viera. Whomever is awarded the contract for the IOBC hires as many locals as they can, supplements with folks who don't have to travel very far and historically does not pay all that well. It is a HUGE technical operation, as they are the conduit for any and all broadcasters who have paid for whatever portion of the rights to air Olympic events. NBC NEWS comes in and handles production of THE TODAY SHOW and NIGHTLY NEWS. Now they emptied most of the London bureau, as well several hundred folks from the US. Most the staff employees they could afford to have out for as much as two months, and some freelancers They built the set for both shows, and did the daily broadcasts. Shot the pieces out and away from the studios as well as kept crews on standby on the perimeter in case of trouble. Directors and the like stayed back in NYC and worked from there, as well as most of the editing. Producers aplenty, associate producers, writers, APs, as well as technicians of all kinds. It really is two worlds...Sports and News. They do call on each other at times to help get stuff covered, but mostly they work and live in their separate worlds. You can't count out the folks that went over for NBC NEWS other platforms...shooting for E Entertainment, providing technical support for all the affiliates that sent staff over there, as well as their NewsChannel that provides coverage for local stations that can not afford to send their own people. Two years from now is Brazil...
  19. Cantori is a very buffed guy! I can't imagine that felt very good. And having worked with him many times, I can see him doing this...I read somewhere it was actually a shot to the stomach and not to the package!!!!!!!
  20. If you look around www land, you should find a CBS SUNDAY MORNING piece on the fellows who played the pirates. There is a substantial Somalian community in Minneapolis, and it was from a small acting school/theatre group that the actors came from. The head pirate even improvised some lines and they made the edit. Hanks was quoted as saying he was scared as hell when they shot the scene...way too realistic for him. The director purposely did not let Hanks the pirates meet before the bridge takeover scene. cleve
  21. Thus the wisdom of Jan! What they don't know, gives them less to stress over
  22. WOW!!! Many thanks... Will make for several nights reading in the next few days. cleve
  23. Hmmm..may have to send a designated representative, just for the giveaways. I leave that morning so can't join in the festivities...that work thing always gets in the way. Hope it is a blast.... cleve
