  1. Looking to get a small bag put together. Wanted to go with the 302, but not sure about the recorder yet. I already have a 788 and love it, but I've heard the ZFR series is great for small bag systems, which is obviously smaller then the 702t. Thoughts? Thanks, Steve
  2. I have a 416 already, which is great, but I wanted to get something to match the warmth of the 50 a little more.
  3. Looking to buy a shotgun mic to go well with my MKH 50. I've been told to just stick to Sennheiser and get a 60, but I wanted to keep my options open. Anyone recommend anything? Sanken CS3e? CMIT5U? Thanks Steve
  4. saw a CUB mount on JW a few weeks ago that I can't seem to find. It's pretty much a pressure mount with two flexible plastic extensions. It works great in car vents. Any thoughts/ideas?

  7. No, all the gear was owned by the 2 mixers, Mark and Lorenzo. Sorry for the confusion! Cheers, Steve
  8. I was just about to fix that, thanks Rich. SORRY RANDY!
  9. Thanks for the shout out Steven & Jim! I ended up starting as playback op, then ended up coming in to 3rd/2nd boom a bunch of days here and there. Also boomed 2nd unit with Lorenzo Millan on episode 4 and mixed for a day on episodes 7&8. Was a really amazing experience. The show actually went through a lot of people during its 7 months of production. Here's everyone: Mixers: Mark Weingarten Lorenzo Millan (1st & 2nd Unit) Steve Saada (2nd Unit) Boom: Mike Primmer David "Fiske" Raymond Kira Smith Lorenzo Millan Randy Pease Chris Jones Steve Saada (1st & 2nd Unit) Utility/2nd Boom: Chris Jones Steve Saada Playback: Steve Saada Steve LaFayette We swung 2 MKH 50's pretty much every day and sanken CS3e's and 60's outside. We ran hardline TC and audio as a snake to VV, which was then sent to both Epics. Pretty straight forward setup that also fed the carts video feed. As for the show itself, I think it came out great, especially the sound! The only thing that I had to get used to was the blown out windows in almost every interior scene. Obviously it was all stage work, but I got used to it. Kevin was great to work with, but definitely had to keep on your toes with him because if you didn't know this already, Kevin is an interesting character. All in all, it was a low-maintenance show (in the sound bubble) and I really enjoyed every day I worked on it. Mark just finished mixing Hunger Games 2 and is now working on a Christopher Guest project! I'm pretty sure he has David Raymond with him for both projects. Lorenzo and I, like Jim said, are on HBO's Veep now, which we've been able to bring Chris Jones in on as well to 3rd some days. Honestly, can't wait for the next seaso to start shooting this year, great cast, great sound team... Can't ask for more (other than better rates...)! Enjoy the show! Cheers, Steve
  10. Thanks, everyone, for all the great advice! I almost went with the new 2013 4Runner, but after realizing I'd be paying close to $100/week on fuel alone, I decided to go with another subaru! I tested the fit of my filmtools cart in the outback and it just gets through the back door, but when I have my road case on it. It won't fit. I'll be bringing the cart with me tomorrow to the dealer to check out the Forrester and Ttibeca. Anyone have any experience with either of these cars?
  11. Anyone know where you could find some lectrosonics t-shirts? I've seen some great ones but can't find them!
  12. Totally agree, but was just curious if anyone had any suggestions. I'm open to anything.
  13. I'm looking to get a new car that will store my vertical filmtools cart (junior) with hard cases on it and some other small stuff. Looking to buy new, so unfortunately can't get the Honda Element, but any suggestions? I'm looking at the Nissan Xterra or Subaru Outback/Forrester, but that's it so far. Thanks, Steve
  14. I think they've already set sail and will be making port for refueling after 2 months... When's the next time you'll ever be asked to shoot in Antarctica?
  15. What size ball gag do you use for the 50? 22mm?
  16. Would the extended ball gag zeppelin work?
  17. Title asks the question, what you think?
  18. Been using the Boom Box on a feature with Alex Altman. I really love it as a boom op. It'll last on a rechargeable 9 volt for the entire day. Also like how it gives me my own control over my headphone level. Only annoying thing I've noticed is that in order for mixer to hear me, they have to be switched over to their slate mic/comma on the mixer end, but that is with using the CL9, so I'm not sure any other system. We also have a wireless rig that Alex made up with 3 systems... SMQV for TX, um200a (I think) as talkback and lectro IFB for comms. I also listen to boom through an MM-1. Everything powered by an NP batt and stored in a setwear bag on a belt. It's not too heavy and works pretty well, as long as all frequencies are clear of course lol.
  19. Headphone level set at only -10 so that's probably not it. The trim pots light up red, yes, but pre fade level on iso's is very low when it happens, so doesn't make sense. It happens when in hardwired and wireless...
  20. Ive been having this problem with my 788 recently. I don't know whether I call it false metering or something else, but here's the issue: I have my limiters set to -4dbfs, however, once my meters hit the first or second yellow led, which is set to -16dbfs on my scale, it sounds like it just clips out or tops out at -16dbfs... I don't understand it and it's really bothering me. I tried it with the limiters off, and it almost seems worse... Any ideas on what it might be? Anything would help! Thanks!
  21. I've done some stuff on House of Cards where we just used a schoeps MS pair and 2 cmc641 as fills. I also kinda rigged this setup for an orchestra/opera recording I did where I mounted 2 BLMs onto the orange Home Depot lids and hung the lids from scaffolding with thin black chain. Ended up just using 2 hanging BLMs and sounded amazing.
  22. Looking to buy either one of these mics. Need a great mic for both indoors and out and good for anything from interviews to narrative recording. Any suggestions? Also, what mount would you use with either suggested mic?
  23. Im booming a feature for a few weeks and wanted to get my hands on or make an apps box with a boom pole hole in it. Anyone have dimensions or know someone near the Baltimore area that may know how to make them? Would it work if I just bought a full apple then just drilled a hole in one end?
  24. Where do I get these dividers that would maybe fit in the SKB case, as well as the Pelican cases? They'd have to be deep enough for the largest SKB/Pelican Cases. Thanks for an info to follow! Steve
  25. Hey Jim, I don't know Lee, but I've only heard great things about him. I'll definitely try to get in touch with him for sure. I'd love to get a boom holder like an apple, but have a little compartment for my belt, TX's, spore, etc... Be a big help lol! Can you PM me his info? Thanks! Steve
