  1. Just got a custom designed foam insert from mycasebuilder. Highly recommend their excellent service. http://www.mycasebuilder.com Glen
  2. Ambient Quick Release for over ten years in all kinds of conditions. Never had an issue with them.
  3. ^ and that WAS from the manufacturer!
  4. Converting .WAV to .MP3 in Audacity will NOT preserve TC metadata. Option 1
  5. 2010 MBP. Only issue I've noticed is I can no longer save a scanned document from my HP 1600 "all-in-one". (strange error message). I'm hoping for an HP driver update. In the event I need to scan and save, I boot Snow Leopard from an external drive.
  6. Thank you Jeff for hosting this fine group and your persistent dedication to improve the sight and enrich the production sound community. One piece of functionality that could stand some improvement is the "member directory". It's 3 pages of posts without any real format and not easily searched. There are frequent opportunities to pass along work to one another and it would be great for this to be an organized, searchable database. Wishing everyone a healthy, happy, prosperous 2014. Glen
  7. Wow, great link! Tax code information in a helpful, informative language that's easily understood. Not sure I've ever seen that before...
  8. Interesting innovation but personally, I consider it bad form to EVER place the end of a rear exit XLR on the ground. That photo makes me cringe a bit. Quick Fist rubber clamp: http://www.endroad.com/index.php/quick-fist-mounts/quick-fist-clamp.html
  9. While I did like the greater resistance, the bounce back did make it difficult or impossible to completely close a channel at times (as Derek has mentioned). You will probably need to find a buyer that knows they want the stiffer faders, or replace them. Actually, the $250-$300 you spend (assuming everything else passes the bench) to get a clean bill of health from Wisconsin becomes a huge selling point.
  10. I sent mine in for service shortly before I sold it (Well over a year ago) and SD did replace the "spongy" faders (and a few other things). It did cost about $250...
  11. It's always concerned me that the bottom XLR terminal was so vulnerable. I wish the inputs were reversed with 1 at the top; something is always plugged in there but I don't always use every input. Good luck with a speedy repair. Glen

  13. My 2010 MacBook Pro is certainly faster with 10.9. Faster boot time and faster opening/closing apps. I don't do much heavy lifting with it but Wave Agent, Quicken, Transmit, Filemaker are all working just fine.
  14. As I understood it, they will tune to Lectro transmitters operating in 200 mode.
  15. Thanks Marc for to taking the time to share your iTunes radio experience and observation.
  16. One issue with the upgrade: An upgraded phones default mode is to allow "favorites" to ring through even in "Do Not Disturb" mode. Easy fix in the preferences. I spent a lot of yesterday getting folks on set to do this... Glen
  17. I love my hodges weight. Only use it for long extensions with a blimped 70. Now that I know what a rarity it has become, I shall cherish it more. Glen
  18. What's great about it is it's recognized as a necessary accessory for the RED Epic/Scarlet. Rental houses and owner operators buy and provide them. It's no longer up to the sound dept to research and build a proprietary cable or breakout we hope to never need... Glen
  19. I wonder if it's a format issue. When I've tried the internally generated reports, I just let them open the way they want in numbers or xl. Perhaps a database template could be built to handle the data and display it better? Glen
  20. The 664 defaults user bits to all zeros. Bits may be selected (menu>timecode>edit user bits) and THEN jammed to your slate, lockit, etc. Once powered down, the 664 maintains TC, but defaults user-bits to zeroes. Many folks have asked for a user-bit=date setting and I expect to see that in future firmware. Glen
  21. Several years now but I had no trouble using Lectro 22 (563.200-588.700) on talent and ZAX 27 (691.200-716.700) for hop. Glen
  22. Of course this subject has broader relevance for other flash based recorders writing only to removable media. The "issue", and my question, has more to do with long form projects in remote areas. (IE: No laptop) Disappointing that the Nexto had some card issues; I did a doc a few years ago and the cameras (P2 media) relied on the Nexto drives for archive and backup. Seemed to work well for them. I was using a 744t and had two external drives. On occasion, I would copy from the IHD to one EHD, and the CF to the other EHD and reformat the CF cards. I came home with the show on the machines IHD, a copy on one EHD, all CF on one EHD, and 2/3 still on the original CF cards. I slept well. If I did a project like that again, I suppose I would take a ridiculous amount of CF cards and TWICE as many SD cards. Occasionally copying a full CF to an SD backup. A Nexto is about $1k and that buys a LOT of cards... Glen
  23. Are folks comfortable backing up one source or temporarily archiving both CF and SD data? I have been using approved media (Delkin and SanDisk). I hand off files from either SD or CF depending on DIT setup, producers laptop config, etc. I have had no trouble with files from either the SD or CF card however there are still some stories floating around about people having trouble even with approved media <sic>. Years ago, in the early 7 series days, I would backup/archive from BOTH the IHD and CF until I felt comfortable enough to only backup from one source. Files would linger on the IHD for a time as well. For now I archive all 664 files from both sources and note which source was the deliverable. After sufficient time, I delete the redundant files from the non delivered source to reclaim space. Glen
