  1. Hello - Stuart, what "fake" shows are you referring to in our info? rgds Richard M - TimeCode Systems
  2. I've just done a 6 week shoot with 5 x C300 and 7 x Buddy wifi Master (5 for cams (in RF receive), 1 as T/C master gen taking timecode from my 788T (in RF transmit) and 1 in the gallery generating wifi code for logger on MovieSlate). I ran no genlock (sharp intake of breath), as there was no hard wire SDI video to a switcher and all the recording was in camera. I ran all the cams in freerun / regen as standard. All our cameras were supplied with 15mm bars and Zacuto rigs, with Anton Bauer batt plates and Hirose breakout plates with an additional side plate - we velcro's the buddies to the side plates, along with a Transvideo Titan video transmitter, and a Lectro SR dual receiver. - Without the batt plate, it would have been a slight pain. I've had designed a clamp mounted plate solution here in the UK, for a buddy and an SR, when there is no bars or ext batt solution - but will ship some to the US for anyone that wants one. As far as the C300 picking up timecode after a batt change - it will of course do that as its looking for external code as soon as it is re-powered. We had no timecode issues what so ever. :-)
  3. Umm - Me I know - TimeCode Buddy mini RX will indeed be released at NAB2013, will be the size of the TX, it will retain genlock output as well as timecode and will re-gen in the event of lost timecode from the generating device. There is a few other nice little touches too, but you will have to wait til NAB. PS - can we come to the RAMPS party again? Thank You those that have bought into the system and can see all the Buddy benefits, and we hope those of you who are not sure, do indeed take the plunge - you won't regret it Happy New Year Everyone from Buddy towers in the UK
  4. Greetings from TimeCode Buddy Towers - Goodness gracious me - what alot of comment timecode still creates which is great for us here - someone at IBC Amsterdam told us they thought timecode was old fashioned - well proof in this thread is that it certainly is not. There is many mixed comments and thoughts in all the above, but I might add my thoughts.................. 1)RECRUN - the reason that edit requested it, is that early editions of the popular Non Linear Edit systems would halt on ingest if there was a break in timecode, making TOD timecode a PITA to ingest, needing monitoring all the time, to re-start the ingest process after each break. Current editions no longer suffer from this issue, so deliver pics and sound with broken TOD is no longer an issue at ingest. However historically single camera shoots still run RECRUN here in the UK - whether this is right or wrong or whether you should agree to work in that manner or not is not my fight, but A TimeCode Buddy system will work happily in this world, which a lockit box will not. 2)Ambient products (inc the generator in SD products), to guarantee their advertised accuracy need tuning to ensure the oscillation frequency of the crystal has not slipped - this is time consuming if done every day as they recommend - Remember every lockit box is effectively free running, so a badly setup system risks drift. A Timecode Buddy system run in "RF cont" mode does not require this sort of daily tune. This is working as a transmit / receive system, so if the transmit timecode moves in time, then all the receivers go with it - any drift in the source timecode is the same at all devices. In addition you have all the other benefits a TCB system offers with WIFI timecode to iOS devices for slating and logging. We have also posted in another JW thread that we will be launching a dedicated mini regenerating receiver unit to satisfy the need of a smaller camera mounted unit, and this will retain its genlock output in addition to timecode It is well down the design road, and will be officially launched at NAB2013 There is space in our RF carrier for plenty of metadata too, so watch this space, as there will be some other exciting announcements about this too. PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS NOT A BASH AT AMBIENT - MERELY AN OVERVIEW OF SYSTEM DIFFERENCES.
  5. Greetings from Buddy Towers - great to see our kit out there helping on all sorts of shows - that's exactly what we wanted in that everyone would find a use for a buddy - no matter what sort of production you're working on. To clear up any misunderstanding, and put all your minds at rest - here is the real story - Paul Scurrell - founder of the Buddy does indeed herald from a single camera PSC/ENG background, and the original concept was to design a bullet proof camera to sound timecode link for running RECRUN timecode - hence the transmitter (TX) / wifi Master solution. "TX" on camera and "wifi Master" in sound bag (small unit on camera, and big unit in bag). The name "Master" referring to the fact that it is the "Master" unit in the suite of products, rather than being the unit that inherently generates the master timecode,(which of course it can if you want) After its launch at NAB2012, you may recall The Senator making a comment regarding the size of the wifi Master - in that it has a plethora of professional connectors on the base - internal batteries, a RF transceiver a WiFi transceiver, a nice display, and the most accurate portable internal timecode generator - and all that comes in a size - he also mentioned that he thought the system was well thought out, and the guys behind the system (me being one!) would listen to customer feedback and develop accordingly. Well we have done exactly that, and in response to the requests, I can reveal that there is indeed a mini camera receiver on its way - this will satisfy everyone's desire for a smaller camera mounted unit in the FREERUN single and multicam setups. It is well down the design road, and will be launched at a well known Broadcasting show in April 2013. Do come and see us, as I'm sure there will be some tasty show offers. We are thrilled that all you users out there have adopted our system and Thank You all for your support - we will of course always listen to our customers and try and incorporate all the good ideas that you have. Turning ideas into tangible things is a long hard process but we love the challenge. Look out for an exciting release from MovieSlate too, very soon, which takes the whole logging system on one step further still. For now have the best Christmas, and here's to a busy and prosperous 2013 for everyone involved in recording audio whatever genre of the industry, in whatever part of the world - we are a breed apart! best wishes Richard Meredith - TimeCode Systems
  6. Exhausted but knocked out by the fantastic response from everyone today at the TCB stand. Looking forward to "sound mixer day" tomorrow, and for anyone who we miss at the stand - we'll see you at the party tomorrow night! The TimeCode Buddy Team
  7. See press release from the TCB website - this might change your mind if you didn't want a TCB already. See you at NAB Timecode Buddy joins forces with Movie★Slate Timecode Systems and PureBlend Software have joined forces to add the wireless functionality of Timecode Buddy to industry leading production slate, Movie★SlateTM. This enhanced version of the Movie★Slate app will be on demonstration alongside the new Timecode Buddy: system during the NAB Show 2012 in Las Vegas on 16th April 2012. A wireless sync option to Timecode System’s super accurate new hardware device, the Timecode Buddy: master, means Movie★Slate is now even better equipped to keep sound, cameras, production assistants and directors effortlessly in sync all day long. Timecode, script notes, shot information, camera settings, audio notes, metadata and lots more, there is an increasing amount of information that needs to be synced and captured when shooting for film and television. The collaboration between the two companies allows any member of the production to wirelessly log and slate accurate TOD or TAPE RUN timecode, making it one less thing for Movie★Slate users to worry about. Paul Scurrell, founder of Timecode Systems says: “Nominated recently for a CAS award for its amazing Sound Dept plugin, Movie★Slate has become an industry standard. It’s by far the best app of its kind on the market and really sets the bar for this kind of application. There was no point in Timecode Systems re-inventing the wheel by developing our own paid logging app, it made far more sense to collaborate with the market leader instead.” Cliff Joyce, CEO of PureBlend Software adds: “We’re excited to bring Timecode Buddy sync to our Movie★Slate app for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. For the first time, Movie★Slate users can enjoy displayed SMPTE timecode that’s synched over WiFi in real time from the extremely accurate Timecode Buddy: system. Timecode Buddy’s settings can even be changed quickly from a password-protected screen in the Movie★Slate app. We think this could be a real game changer for our customers.” You can see the new version of Movie★Slate and the Timecode Buddy: system in action at the NAB Show 2012. Visit us at stand C2150 16th-19th April 2012 at the Las Vegas Convention Centre.
  8. Having been very busy - I've now got 8 channels with modded boards out on a shoot (the only real way to test the theory). I will get a report from the guys on the ground and put the theory to test next week myself.
  9. My 552's are fine with Eneloops. There is a big current draw on power up from a 552, which will take the protective fuse out on Hawkwoods NP70's (British manufactured NP1's). I normally power on internals then switch over to avoid it. I'm on old firmware though - perhaps the power up curve has changed on the latest firmware - upsetting the internals? Re SD cards - No card I've ever thrown in to a 552 has failed to record, including micro cards in adaptors etc.
  10. I'm going to nick that phrase Marc, and use it as my own!
  11. Thanks for the clarification Glenn - I remember us discussing an emergency audio path whilst you were in the UK - but couldn't quite remember the explanation, as I think I had hundreds of questions. Of course the recording wireless is an absolute backup, but I expect you'll want to extend your Nomad usership to those who operate wireless from other manufacturers. Like a sensible sound recordist Jeff, I would never go to the jungle without some cheeky spares secreted in my kit box! I'm not trying to promote a war here - I think all these pieces of kit have a place in the industry, and I will certainly be adding a Nomad or two to my hire fleet, to complement the Zax wireless.
  12. I'm just gushing at the recommendations - thank you fellas - I will of course help anyone who wishes to rent gear in the UK. I can pretty much supply anything sound / timecode related. For the record the link is http://www.meredith.tv/newsite/MBAHome.html Sorry that's probably classed as advertising which I'm probably banned from on this forum! I'm not sure what an Oxymoron is but Oxy is something to do with the air we breathe and as for Moron's! re: 10mW v 50mW, as mentioned in real terms I'm sure Mr RF measuring man would have to zoom in to the scale to see much of a tangible difference in the reading (and I mean in the real world, not on a bench). The wording on a UK license is as follows "Maximum power may be increased to 50mW for body worn equipment only" - I'm not sure if that answers the question, but would indicate if its not on someone's body then the power should be set at 10mW. Interestingly (and this will probably make you power crazed US chappies shudder) the tangible operating difference between 1mW and 10mW is not that great either. We did a 6 radio mic shoot in sound stage the other day with New Sony DWX digital set to 1mW, and had no range or RF hit issues whatsoever.
  13. What I was getting at, way before all the rants and interventions with my perhaps rather concise question relating to "what happens if the processor fails", was "would there still be any sort of audio path through the device" if it does fail - "An emergency state" if you will. A 788T for example can freeze, allowing no user input from any control function, however the audio still passes through - and you can wait for a pause to hard re-set - maybe that's just luck. The 552 is an analogue mixer with a flash recorder bolted on - proven technology and unlikely to all go wrong all at the same time - unless you lose the power rail. That's why I then asked the question "Would you take it to the jungle" - your personal answer to that question pretty much points, in my mind, to whether a Nomad should be your sole mixer. Personally I would be happier in the jungle with a 552, than I would with a Nomad. I have to say, the Nomad seems to have gone up in weight since the AA battery tray has been implemented, which it wasn't on the dem model that Glenn had in the UK. And hey - there's another 5 work days before holidays!
  14. There is absolutely a way to legally run a camera hop - At the moment you have the luxury of using your talent in 69 and links in 38 or vice versa. You could even get away with running a couple of talent channels at one end of 38 and links at the other - it works fine. Legally though, if not body worn your TX's should only run 10mW, and to make doubly sure you should actually licence the link as a programme link rather than a radio mic. There is lots of ways to do all this stuff outside 38 and 69 too as long as you license site specific.
  15. Olympics work - be warned - Even legal CH38 and CH69 will not be allowed in to any Olympic venue, unless you have LOCOG validation and accreditation. You cannot use your own kit, even on legal UK frequencies without this in any Olympic venue.
