New bag for Sound Devices 633 and Zaxcom MAXX from K-Tek
drpro replied to dfisk's topic in Manufacturers & Dealers
I would say the asking price would need to be in the $200-$250 range to be competitive with the other offerings. Kortwich will have their prototype 633 back up on their site in a few days. Its a good time to be looking for a new back, so many choices. David -

He was dropped on his head as a child and adult, both of which didn't help any.

I am an older soundie and for me the articulated pole is perfect. I find myself resting the end on my hip and with the articulation I am able to reach into the scene with less discomfort. For MOS you can extend the pole fully click the short end to 90 degrees and rest the pole on the ground and still be out of the shot! I do own other straight poles, but the K-tek is my go to boom pole. I do wish it had another 2-3 feet of reach. Another problem is the fact when it is open but not extended it is a bit more unwieldy. I carry a 6' vdb for occasions when I can mount the pole on a stand and space is tight. The 6' works well in those times. Over time I have become accustomed to it. It is fun when someone the job says, I have never seen a pole like that, so they are a bit rare. YMMV David

These guys (endroad) are based here in Nashville. I went by there one day and bought some of their product. Super nice and they have it in stock. David

Many circuits in use today, do not tolerate RF well. The typical WT outputs 3-5 watts. An antenna an inch or two with 3-5watts coming out and those devices are not happy. Horizontal and vertical spacing can help with many of those problems. Camera ops can wear the talkie on the belt, us audio ops can wear it on the back of the belt and then have some horizontal separation. David

Robert I blocked him some months ago and my blood pressure has gone down and I am a happier person when I read JW Sound forum posts. YMMV David

Another suggestion, sic the Mike "the Senator" on them. They would pay you just to get rid of him!! David

You might try contacting the ARRL, they would be able to help you contact a local examiner and local radio clubs in your area. That person or persons could have knowledge in local classes. The Y, a local community college, the Red Cross, a local radio club all come to mind. Back when I got my license a couple of hams offered classes that met each week at the local Red Cross office. Surviving In The Pro Audio Business
drpro replied to VASI's topic in Work Available - Available for Work
A wiser friend of mine from 30 years ago, he is long out of the business, gave me a simple formula. For every dollar you make, place 25% into your retirement account, 25% in an account for taxes, and live on the remaining 50%. Simple but is does help to give you a focus. David -
I imagine you have damaged the unit, so I am happy to take it off of your hands!! David

Pascal are the mounts that the Petrol bags use for their accessory pouches now standard from Kortwich? I mounted some on my Kortwich bag and sent the pictures to Kortwich. I had hoped they would add them to the mix. Thanks and great job. David

Tyler, I am having troubles with my Betso display, when connected to a running time code source it displays "no tcode". All of the other functions are working. I have tried other cables, so I can rule out faults with cables. I have contacted Betso, but no word yet. Is the hardware reset something you can describe? Thanks David

Hard wire is definitely the way to go. The problem that comes up on the network shoots too often is let's do a walk and talk straight away after the interview, just keep rolling or walk into the set rolling. Wireless can be your friend on that type of setup. The bottom line is what works for you and that particular job. David

Once the FCC gets finished selling off most of the wireless frequencies, wired mics will become the norm. Hopefully still a few years away. David

How many transmitters recommended within a Lectro block?
drpro replied to chickaboom's topic in Equipment
They wanted everyone in the audience wired, small crowd + the presenters. For a religious publisher here some years ago. It took two of us about 30 minutes. Nothing had to be hidden. Like herding cats!! David -

41 was the most I have tried, you need a lot of patience to make it work though. David -
I have heard that also, here is a link to the AFC, http://www.afcinema.com/Recours-a-la-procedure-de-redressement-judiciaire-pour-Aaton.html?lang=fr#.UXujThGCLAU.twitter. My French is not so good, but the gist seems to be that they need cash or Aaton may be no more. David
