  1. LOTD Mirror! I love the size difference too -- priceless! ~tt
  2. Perhaps this thread will spur that "uniformity" along - hopefully in an upward direction. The race to the bottom could use a detour. ~tt
  3. I wonder what "take five" is alluding to... another bong rip?
  4. I have my cables burnt in before every project - fortunately, production pays for it. The hard part is getting them to pay for the post-wrap cable burn out. Just getting them on the phone to ok the charges is really hard! It's worth it though - having your cables laying around between jobs, full of a bunch of 1's & 0's is really just irresponsible these days - with all the extra weight and stagnation issues. That's just lazy. So all you green gills out there listen up: Burn in your new cables before using them on any job that matters - and then don't forget to BURN YOUR CABLES OUT when the job is finished, ok? ~tt ps ~ these folks provide an excellent service at a reasonable price: www.peoplebelieveanything.buz
  5. I just got word yesterday that the next project I'm mixing is going with Alexas -- thank the Good Lord!!! At least that's one variable that seems to have come down in our (Sounds) favor... yeah, now if we can get the juicers to actually use those head feeder cables... Either way, I'm definitely gonna mix each scene, as always -- Post may not want to bother with it, but as pointed out before, there are many "users" along the way who definitely benefit from a quality production mix track -- including those who hire me ; ) ~tt
  6. Gravity is our friend (at least in this instance.) Yeah, love the Ambient QRT's -- I have 4 of 'em w/ 8 or 10 spuds (got some extras at one point) They are quick and simple, durable... never had a problem with them. ~tt
  7. ^ one of the best albums ever recorded - ever ~tt
  8. ^ +11 I know a few "chronic" users whose lives pot has affected in a wide range of ways - one of whom I would have no qualms saying is an addict in every sense of the word. Then there are those who are extremely high functioning (no pun intended) like another friend of mine who practices and teaches IP law. I think most folks who use marijuana recreationally fall somewhere in the middle, and compared to alcohol (used in comparison here due to it's legality vs. apparent negative social repercussions) the negative impact of marijuana on society is negligible. I'm not talking about the number of people who have been incarcerated over the years for possession or selling it, etc -- that's an entirely different facet that should have it's own "discussion." Compared to food addiction and abuse, the negative impact of recreational marijuana use on our society is negligible. Compared to how chronic gambling has ruined lives, the negative impact of recreational marijuana use is negligible. Compared to the negative impact heroin has on people's lives...? not even gonna go there - there's NO COMPARISON. Sorry, I could go on, but I'll stop now before I get all riled up. <rant off> ~tt
  9. I figured you gleaned it from another source - just by way of it's overall length, as well as the extremely general nature of it... still funny, and somehow fitting here within this thread. I could see the Norm Crosby link. ~tt
  10. Oh man! : ( Godspeed Mr. Spock.
  11. "swallow your prize" - oh, man... that's rich! ~tt
  12. The two-tap method is great for confirming yes or no questions, etc from the mothership, but I enjoy the ability to communicate more in-depth with my Boom Ops, and have found that some valuable and timely information can flow (especially from set to cart) via a TB setup that would otherwise be missed. It's really just a question of what one gets used to though - when I started booming, it was a duplex cable: single-channel hard-wire to the (Nagra) with a HP rtn, and that was it. Ultimately, it's the resulting tracks that count, and if you're getting great tracks, you're getting great tracks, no matter how simple or elaborate your gear is. ~tt
  13. they say it affects your short-term memory
  14. Hey Crew, My business is regestered in ID, as are all my vehicles, but I have homes in both ID and WA. The house in Cd'A is small (too small for my wife, daughter and me) and with WA implementing a tax incentive program, we decided it would be wise to have residence in WA - it makes me more marketable to many of my clients (and their clients.) In any case, I think the total distance between our two homes is about 40 miles. I rent the Cd'A house out through a property management co. and it kinda pays for itself : ) ~tt
  15. Sorry Crew, It was my lame attempt at humor... I guess some of the satire doesn't translate via the written (or typed) word. As a Washington St. resident, (and an advocate for our personal rights), I've followed this issue for years. It's nice to be in an "advanced state" ; ) ~tt
  16. Yeah, have built many PVC boom shipping tubes over the years - I dig the clear tubing though - that's trick. It's gotta be practically bulletproof if you travel a lot - those luggage handlers are monsters. ~tt
  17. It's frustrating and counter-productive when a Boom Op has to collapse the boom and then re-deploy it every time s/he needs to communicate with the PSM. My Boom Ops have Lectro IFB's for monitoring incoming signal, and Lectro UM's feeding UCR401a's for PL / talkback. This system has proven invaluable countless times over the years. It's so much more efficient than expecting a Boom Op to collapse the boom every time s/he needs to say something. There's frequently no time for that. Ask you Boom Op about it. ~tt
