  4. Andre. Thanks for the practical feedback. Nice to know they play well with other chargers without melting. Senator, thanks for your practical opinion of my real world situation. All Options should be considered. Sandor - Vancouver sound guy
  5. I'm looking at the beachteks for a UHa plug on. I need the longest runtime I can get for a doc where battery changes for planted mics could be impossible. I know I can use lithiums, but I don't need 16 hours of run time, and I'm trying to save them $1000 on lithiums by buying 4 beachteks for $100. Reports with a plug on?
  6. Last pass was ok, but the flexibility of 1password working on all my devices and saving all my software license info is fantastic. Haven't used last pass die a couple years now. Maybe it's better now, but 1password has made my online life soooooo easy. Love it. And good support. Sandor - Vancouver sound guy
  7. Thanks for meeting up in Toronto Al. I'll likely put your bloop slate into service this weekend Sandor - Vancouver sound guy
  8. this thread seems to have died. I'm after the PSC one or another variety. Like the idea of hardware over a phone app with a reflective screen and minimal sunlight readability. Guess I'll keep asking google.
  9. Check out the local IATSE website, find the list of mixers and call them. Go down to set and get to know them. That's what I did. Friendly bunch. Sandor, Sound Guy (664/411a's/SRb/MKH60)
  10. +1 for the switronix stetup with LP60s. I know you said you had a mix of batts, so this might not be for you, but for the future it's a great setup.
  11. More feedback since last post. I've probably got about 120 days on each of my 4 rode lavs. Still happy w sound, although they are exposed on this show. Trashed my 4th cable....strain relief at connector seems to give up. Added some heat shrink tube above the connection and seems to be holding up over last 30 days. WINDSCREEN HACK: I bored out 4 sanken windscreens to use w rode lavs. I smear a touch of snot tape to the mic head to make sure the windscreen doesn't slip off, as the o ring is no longer there in the screen. Works like a charm. Sandor, Sound Guy (664/411a's/SRb/MKH60)
  12. Here ya go. As you can see I cut the sides of the bag back to the external pocket holders. This allows m side access to all the hardware ins and outs. I can also open the card door with no problems, also depicted in one of the pics. I've got 4 channels of wireless, my lav case (the little peli in the centre), and 16 spare AA all in the main compartment of the bag. It's tight for sure, but I like the compactness.
  13. Great to hear your success with larger cards, can you please post brand/model? I'd like to start a database of cards that are currently working / not working in the real world and post it. Thanks. And thanks for your input senator.
  14. I using a petrol pegz small. Used to have my 442 in it, but with a few mods the 664 fits just fine and makes for a compact setup. I had to trim the side holes to make me bigger towards the front of the bag in order to accommodate cabling. It's has rendered the back 2 external pouches useless, but the front 2 are still fine for me. I never have more than 2 pouches on the outside of my bag anyway. I'm running 4 wires, comtek and a boom out of the bag. Works great. I can post a pic if anyone use interested.
  15. I agree, this would be a great software feature. Lets no abandon existing traditions until they are dead.
  16. All this chat is great, and it's good to hear everyone's experiences to avoid the pitfalls. Regardless, I'm just a little put off that I can't use a bigger card than 32gb. I've got a few previously approved cards that now sit on the shelf due to slow media warnings too (Sd Sandusky ultra), ,and I'm only recording 2 tracks. The recorder still locks up once a week with the latest firmware. Not particularly confidence inspiring. The manual makes no mention of an approved media list, but simply says most modern cards will work. This is, sadly, not so. Hopefully things can be improved with firmware, but I've no idea if that's the case. A more diverse list of approved media would be appreciated.
  17. Mkh60 Sanken cs1 Rode NTG3 Akg SE 300B blue lines w/ card/hyper caps. Preamps modded for lower noise Sm58 Lavs: cos11, rode lavs Music is a whole other story
  18. Tom, you're right that in some cases one channel pre fade for multi language shoots and such would be fine. for the show I'm working on there are multiple talent, and the AD wants to be able to monitor a couple pairs of them and control them individually. This is no different than aux sends on a proper board. I should be able to use them for whatever I need. Using the direct outs requires either custom summing cables or another piece of gear to mix down channel groups before sending to whoever is monitoring. How would you feel if you bought a console mixer and found out after that only 2 of your 20 channels had an aux send that worked, the rest of the knobs were just for show? I'd think it was some kind of error in manufacturing and be pretty confused.
  19. This makes me so sad. A very odd hardware decision indeed. What will I do with 2 pre fade sends at either end of my mixer? Almost makes them pointless.
  20. It did feel like the meters were showing a bit low relative to camera. Feels better now. Hope it's not an illusion.
  21. Either way the pre fade only routing of Ch 2-5 is pretty silly. I spoke to Sound Devices tech support yesterday and they tell me that it is physically possible to have all channels pre or post fader, as the hardware exists in the unit, but it's not a software option they plan on offering. I hope they will reconsider. I'd really love to be able to send 3 different comtek feeds from different channels and still be able to mix with faders and not have my comtek feeds messed with. For reality TV with multiple things happening with pairs of people at the same to and a couple ADs following different stories, this is sometimes a necessity. Just my 2 cents. Anyone else want to chime in on that an get this request rolling? Perhaps it's better moved over to the SD forum for feature requests, but since we're talking 664 already....
  22. I have similar comments to above about the sound. They lack a little high end compared to a sanken, but overall sound quite pleasant. I really like the thin cable for it's hideability, but the strain relief at the connector is poor. I have warrantied 3 cables in a year (it was a bit of a rough show though). The micon system has been problem free for me for both sennhieser and lectro. I have the xlr but haven't used it yet. the wind screen sucks. I'm looking for an alternative right now. perhaps just bore out a cos11 pop screen a bit.
