    Bit Rates

higher bit rates give higher quantization resolution with amplitude, while higher sample rate gives higher resolution to the waveform. you can record an 8 bit signal at 48khz and have it stay in sync, you can record a 9999 bit signal at 48 and have it stay in sync. this known bug sounds like mis-informed forum talk

    Bit Rates

Also, HDD space is cheap, and should not be a factor in your recording format. 1 bit = 6db in your SNR.
  3. These letters are brilliant. I will edit this down to be less intimidating to read.
  4. I dont think of it as another link in the chain, its more of a splitter. It doesn't complicate anything and it doesn't interfere with anything else. If it doesn't work it's not like the entire cart goes down, you just don't have the VNC. It is a lot of work, but when it's the difference between working and not working and I need the money, I do it. I always tell production that not having a boom op will hurt the production is "X" ways. If I am getting a decent rate I try to split a boom op with them. I do everything I can to get one, and it usually works out. Some times people are just stubborn though. As for utility.... That seems like it's getting to be a lost cause.
  5. well, with vnc it is hard to screw something up, Worst case scenario is it just doesn't work. It's easy to tell when you hit the record button and it doesn't highlight, and the meters are frozen. It's been working really well for me. I do a lot of low budget stuff, so when I have to boom myself (or replace a bad boom op production gave me) I can still use the cart and have control. Plus, people always think it's neat!
  6. OSX has VNC server built in (since 10.4) With any tablet with VNC installed you can remote control your desktop, and use it as a touch screen monitor. If you have an IO with a software mixer (like the motu) you can also control your mix. it's great when you need to go fix a LAV and you are not quite back to your cart whe "ROLL SOUND" gets called.
  7. nobody mentioned the ability to load the session to CACHE in the non-HD version (With the production toolkit)
  8. I have worked many venues where anything other than scratching the mic will immediately get you replaced. Where are you guys working!
  9. I wrote this whole long paragraph about myself that somehow didn't get posted. (maybe I accidentally deleted it before I hit post) Here is the short of it I'm Chris. I recently moved from Chicago to LA I have about 5 years doing production / post production audio I run a Metacorder cart that is controlled wirelessly. Vin - talking about being a moron or forgetful, I notice the links in your profile page are 404 errors. I don't know what is worse, forgetting to post information, or posting links to information that doesn't exist. I have been on here pretty regularly posting things since I have registered. I will be sticking around and getting to know some of you a little better. I don't expect anyone to just throw me work, but I thought I would throw it out there
  10. Here is my workflow for Music Videos. I run PT with a 003 I record a time code signal the exact length of the track from my sb3 outputs 1&2 drive speakers output 3 is a mono out of the track output 4 is that recorded time code reference Send camera 3&4 Time code on the camera sent from my output 4 is used as a timecode reference in avid (or FCP) video tracks line up perfectly to the audio track when imported. Post is happy
  11. So the project I was supposed to be on for the end of December / next month just collapsed. Looking to fill that large empty slot. If you have something available, shoot me a message.
