  1. The best thing I did to combat this was telling my AV Receiver to boost up the center channel +5db on my home theater's 5.1 setup. Gives the dialogue more of a pop over the LR music/sfx etc.
  2. Are you frequency coordinating all your transmitters to help avoid intermodulation? I'd also check your antenna cables and whatnot to see if any are "leaking" in the sense that a bad cable (especially BNC) can cause all kinds of havoc in a bag.
  3. Apparently you can jam a GoPro now. That being said, if you don't leave a timecode box up to it, "While clocks do drift, this approach is good for about hour of timecode sync." https://gopro.github.io/labs/control/ltc/
  4. Got a trial of Quboz and listened to it in 24bit/96khz lossless on my Yamaha nearfields + matching sub. Sounds really good! The strings especially pop more, then again, my Revolver copy is slightly crusty / "well loved" and from 1966. Playing around with this Quboz thing is kinda neat although they don't have any sort of recommendation engine so you've got to build playlists or just listen to albums which is kind of a bummer as I've discovered really good music via Spotify's recommendation engine.
  5. Interesting stuff! I might have to track down a vinyl copy to see how it compares to my original 1st pressing. One Beatles remaster that definitely is better is the Live At The Hollywood Bowl. I have an original pressing and it is damn near unlistenable given it's just mostly the audience screaming whereas the reissue did a better balance of it all.
  6. I would but a 6000 mile roundtrip to pick it up would make it a little uneconomical! Good luck on selling it though, seems nice.
  7. Good to know. That was one thing I was a bit worried about given the rock n roller is very light and convenient yet I know the magliner can be a handful if you encounter a few steps etc.
  8. That's kind of what I'm unfortunately finding out. I know some pop up on occasion but it seems camera folks especially grab them quick. (Insert sound is slow joke here). I have been noticing way more Innovativ carts though in camera dept so maybe I'll get lucky eventually?
  9. An old thread about a timeless classic. I've had a Rock N Roller "All Terrain" R12 now for 10 years? Somewhere around that amount of time? It's kind of been rickety since day 1 but has surprisingly held up decently overall. I'm thinking it's time to retire it and move on up to a magliner/filmtools/backstage etc proper cart to haul pelican cases etc. I think I'd want a 24x36 with a bottom and top shelf. Anyone have any they are looking to sell or any leads on one? I'm in Orange County so preferably in LA/OC would be great. I will be up driving to Santa Cruz though right before Thanksgiving so I guess maybe the Bay Area too?
  10. It's uh, a bit different than Los Angeles. That being said, these two were the outliers on the crew and the rest were great. I sure missed California those two weeks though. Was about 134% humidity and had two tornado warnings 🙃
  11. This seems more punitive than preventive. If they actually wanted to stop COVID on the set, they'd have someone on set making sure people are wearing masks properly rather than weeks later trying to see who gets detention. Hadn't encountered this until I shot in Texas and encountered two crew members like this. Both were proud that they had never taken a COVID test nor been vaccinated. They also believed that it was some sort of government conspiracy but I didn't ask for further clarification given you can't reason with crazy people. I was amused that both were worried about the COVID vaccine "damaging their bodies" while both were chain smokers.
  12. Seems SAG rules are dictating the protocols these days on non-union. I did a narrative non union recently and we tested PCR weekly, rapids every few days, masks on at all times inside (optional outside). Actors were just running around with no masks 100% of the time as they seem to get away with murder with SAG fighting tooth and nail regarding not requiring vaccinations etc. COVID officer roamed about keeping an eye on things. We did have a COVID scare on set one day where two did test positive so we switched to testing daily with rapids just to make sure (no one else tested positive for the rest of the shoot). Turns out one of the actors who was never wearing a mask (shocker) tested positive and so did a crafty person who seemed to be rather lax on their mask as well, especially when chit chatting with talent. Overall, I felt safe with everything though as we always staged gear etc in pretty open spaces rather than having cramped quarters.
  13. With these lower end (not necessarily quality wise, but price wise) lavs, I tend to try to send them in for repair and then just buy a replacement while I'm at it. The repaired one then goes into the "backup" pile and/or secondary pile where I'll pull from it if needed.
  14. HC-22 $799 USD HC-15 $779 USD Is the HC-22 supposed to be like an 8060 and the HC-15 an MKH50?
  15. Seems like a nice piece of kit. I wonder what the pricetag is going to be.
  16. Are you finding yourself turning off all the transmitters remotely when you have a lot of downtime between setups? If so, how much more battery life does that eek out in terms of time?
  17. Buy yourself a Denecke TC slate and charge clients appropriately for it. It will pay for itself quickly and they are built to the point where you'll need to will it to your next of kin as it will still be valuable and in use.
  18. It's literally the industry standard procedure for this kind of thing? Of course American viewers though are clutching their pearls and talking about how "we just don't have morals anymore" because we wouldn't want to talk about actual things plaguing this country. Then again for perspective, a news van costs more than a double wide. Oofta, I'll get off my soap box now.
  19. Very clean and nice setup. With how much height it has, do you have a high roof van that transports it or do you have to throw it onto its back? I know we talk about carts on here a lot (which is great) but I wish we talked more about vans and whatnot too! Sadly, the Ford Transit Connect (and the Ram Promaster City + Mercedes Metris - ALL the small vans will dead for North America end of '23) so I'm kicking tires on various van ideas.
  20. Great write up and it's definitely a nice piece of kit. The battery life conundrum is sure a bummer but I think I'd rather play the battery management game and have the spectraband/gain forward. It's a shame they don't have a four channel receiver yet as this would be killer for documentaries or run and gun bags with an 833 / SL2 combo.
  21. I've got a couple of these. Never had a problem with them. I know some like to use bigger capacity cards but 32GB seems to be a nice sweet spot where you can at least fill up some of the card before reformatting vs having a huge card that you might reformat a lot and use only some of the sectors. I've been told this "helps" in the sense that you're utilizing more of the card itself? YMMV Oh, and no matter what you end up getting, DON'T buy from Amazon or familiar "marketplace" retailers. Buy from name brand vendors (better yet, hit up a sound house) because there are a ton of counterfeit cards out there!
  22. Yeah you need a license fo rthe 941-960 stuff. Although the IST 902-928 stuff in the US is open season I believe. This is Sound Devices chart for their "spectraband" transmitter which seems to tune into anything and everything legal out there (in the US).
  23. Well the Zaxcom patents expire in 2025 so I'm sure it will be open season then and I'd imagine manufacturers that have these features overseas but not here could just firmware unlock things at that point. Per Zaxcom's own website (https://zaxcom.com/company/patents/) these are the Patents that were licensed to Deity and they expire summer 2025. https://patents.google.com/patent/US9336307B2/en?oq=9336307 https://patents.google.com/patent/US8385814B2/en?oq=8385814
  24. Anecdotal but I'm counting 18 2.4ghz wifi signals fighting each other for frequencies at my house in a single family neighborhood that is less dense than Los Angeles by far. With something like a Sennheiser G4, you'd be able to choose a UHF band like their AW+ block (the recommended frequencies that are available for SoCal, your mileage might vary elsewhere) and will be able to dial into an actually unused frequency. Being that it is the UHF band, you'll also to be able to choose an actually unused frequency whereas in 2.4ghz, it might be unused for a minute or two and then a WiFi router decides to auto switch to that frequency to fight you on it. Leave the 2.4ghz stuff to the "vloggers".
