  1. I would hate to see the strain that one of those things, fully loaded, puts on a DSLR camera's hot shoe. The picture one the website shows it with a wireless receiver, a digital recorder and a shotgun mic with shock mount.
  2. "I could show you where the self-help section is but that would defeat the purpose" - Barnes & Noble sales assistant
  3. "Wire up the dog" Wouldn't the dog choke when it got to the end of the wire?
  4. Some thoughts on another board would seem to suggest that the Tascam HD-P2 cannot handle a tre Line level input (even though it's supposed to). Any comments from the knowledgeable people here? Thanks.
  5. Thanks. I'll probably get this just to use as a "dumb" slate and save my $$$ for a s/h Denecke.
  6. "current front runner for the name is FreqFinder" How about FreakFinder? You'd probably get a lot of folks buying it without bothering to see what it actually does... Extra revenue.
  7. Has anyone used this app for their iPad or iPhone (www.movie-slate.com) to generate time code? It would seem to be an answer to the "How am I going to afford that Denecke TS-C?" question.
  8. If anyone has a DVD player that will play Region 2 (Europe) discs I've found that ordering things from www.amazon.co.uk winds up costing a lot less than ordering from Amazon US. They have the complete STNG set for less than $120.(http://www.amazon.co...27901502&sr=1-2). Shipping is usually cheap and I get things ordered from them in about a week. The same thing from Amazon US is $275 plus shipping. On another note many years ago I photographed an event in DC at which the entire cast of STNG appeared (black tie event). When I mentioned to Brent Spiner (Data) that Gene Rodenberry was also at the event (and where he was) he went nuts, rounded up the entire cast for me and they all posed for a photo with him (I sent them all prints). For a geek like me (I was one of the kids that wrote in to protest the impending cancellation of the first ST series) it was awesome....
  9. CERN's computer's are secure so they are NOT running on Windoz...
  10. My NTG-3 arrived yesterday and I'm liking it. The metal tube case that Rode supply with is fantastic and might make a fine weapon in years to come...
  11. Just an FYI for anyone that has lost the screw-in 1/8inch to 1/4 inch adapter supplied with the headphone only to find it not lised on any Sony website (that I could find) can use these $4 adapters made for KRK headphones that screw in to an MDR7506 and work just fine. 12. This might be a late entry here but as a photographer I've been buying from B&H for 30+ years and, given their limitations, they are a fine place to buy things from. If you know what you want then you'd do well to shop there. If you need lots of sales talk and hand holding then B&H might not be for you. I've bought and returned many things over the years and have never had a problem, ever. They will supply you with what you need at a good price and they will stand behind what they sell. They, and their website, close at sundown on the Jewish Sabbath, Friday (in NYC) and they (at least the website) re-open at sundown the next day, so they shut down earlier in the winter and later in the summer. They close on Jewish holy days. They're religious and that's just the way they roll. You can deal with it, or not. The good folk at Adorama in NYC are similar and operate in a similar fashion. I'm new to the production audio world and see that there are many great suppliers dedicated to audio that pull out all of the stops when it comes to service and information. I have started to, and I'm sure will continue to, patronize them. I live in Omaha, Nebraska. There are no really good pro-audio shops within, at least, 150 miles. You folks in LA and NYC can walk into Gotham or Coffey or where ever and handle the latest and coolest gear, chat about it, get the latest info, make a purchase. I cannot. Consider yourselves lucky.
  13. The Oktava seems to be very prone to handling noise and even air currents (some say) behind the mic. Any suggestions (aside from the Audio-Technica AT4053B) other than the MC012 for a hyper-cardioid suitable for indoor boom work?
  14. Wow. Less than $300 for that Oktava. I will check that one out. Thanks to all.
  15. "I'm looking for a "quick-draw" fast-deploy pocket recorder that is as trouble free and easy to use as my old Olympus voice recorder." Quick? Small? AAs? How about the Zoom H-1 for under $100?
  16. I cannot afford a MHK416 just yet so a Rode NTG-3 seems to be a decent high(ish) quality alternative (better than a Sennheiser ME66) particularly for outdoor work. Am I correct in thinking this? Can someone recommend a mic, similar in audio quality to the NTG-3, that would be similar to the Sennheiser ME64 (i.e. cardioid or hyper-cardioid, better for boom work indoors)? I figure that some will say "get a Schoeps" or such like but that would be, for the moment, not affordable. I'm trying to build up the gear slowly. Thanks in advance.
  17. I remember hearing this on NPR and thinking (even after remembering that it was April 1st) that it wasn't such a stupid idea... http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1216161 Jim Colburn Omaha, NE
  18. "inless you enter a declared value, in which case they apply an insurance surcharge to cover the shipment up to that value" "Declared Value" is not insurance, it's just a higher limit on what they MIGHT pay you if your goods are damaged or go missing. Here's a good explanation (http://www.platinumcargologistics.com/pdf/Declared_Value_vs_Insurance.pdf). The only shipper that offers real insurance is, amazingly enough, the US Postal Service. I was told a few years ago by a UPS employee that they would only pay for damages to the contents of a package if they or one of their official agents did the packing as otherwise they'd have no proof that you packed it properly. 19. New here but a long-time photojournalist (transitioning to audio). If I may suggest folks should have a look at the bags from Think Tank Photo (www.thinktankphoto.com). They do a range of cases made specifically for carry-on (http://www.thinktankphoto.com/categories/rolling-camera-bags/airport-series.aspx) and they're pretty awesome. Not cheap by any means but well designed and well made. Jim Colburn Omaha, NE
