  1. What camera(s) are they thinking of using mross? The new Sony FS7?
  2. I've had handling noise problems on my internally cabled PSC Elite, but mainly in very cold temperatures and an extended pole. I guess the cable gets stiff and then rattles. The soft sleeve idea is intriguing. I use an external cable on my ancient VDB and never have handling problems.
  3. Does this mean the Tascam DCR10 will now be available with the TA5 connector? Or is it just for Uranus?
  4. They got me hook line and sinker! Damn you Lectrosonics.
  5. I think those EVs might be the on-camera mics Harry Caul uses on the rooftops in Coppola's "The Conversation".
  6. Hilarious! What an exemplary citizen. Thanks for this Richard.
  7. I don't know much about this, but would it be a good idea to encrypt the data then send it to multiple locations (cloud, drop box, dark web, whatever works) then delete your original files so they couldn't be accessed at all? Maybe substitute pix/sound from your cousin's wedding on your cards. In Citizen Four there is that surreal scene where the Guardian execs are smashing up the laptop hard drives that had Snowden's files on them by order of the UK government. Security Theatre. Of course the files had already been cloned multiple times, and everybody knew it. Harder to pin it on you if there is no "original". OK go.
  8. Daniel, that's a very interesting idea. I haven't personally had a need for an encryption system (yet), but there may come a time.
  9. I tested my Beyer MC836 for rear lobe sensitivity and it does indeed have very good rejection. Still not crazy about the sound though. Not nearly as much "reach" as the usual suspects either. For my money, the Rode NTG1, which I use for camera mic on doc. shoots has a "nicer" sound (my purely non-scientific opinion of course). The 836 is really long as well,so no good for on-camera backup. As NZ Mike says, it's all in the ear of the beholder.
  10. Thanks Jeremiah. I have an old Beyer MC836 which I picked up as a (seldom used) backup mic. The polar pattern you showed was very interesting in that there is only a very small rear pickup lobe on this mic. I'll haul it out and give it another listen. Could come in handy. Somehow I never cared much for the sound of this mic, preferring the instant gratification of my 416. Kind of like MSG on chinese food. Any beyer MC836 or 837 users out there?
  11. I thought it was well shot and put together. The journalistic work was impeccable. Greenwald was up front about all aspects of the process, and the fact checker guys from The Guardian were at the top of their game. Old school reporting at it's best. I've recently read that Laura Poitras the producer has been under intense pressure from Homeland Security even before Citizenfour came out. Constant agro every time she returns to a US airport because of her investigative work: confiscated laptops, phones, demands for her to out her sources, threats, the whole nine yards. As far as I know, she's never been charged with any crime, she's just pissed off a lot of powerful people. Snowden comes across as a guy with scruples. He obviously has nothing to gain personally from any of his actions. In fact, he obviously knows he's screwed, and just continues to do what he believes is the right thing. Check out this documentary. It's worth your time.
  12. I worked with the FS7 for the firstime this week. Sit down interview recording direct to camera. Audio menu pretty good and easy to set up.One useful thing I noticed that I didn't see in the manual is that the "status" button on the side of the camera allows you to expand the audio meters in the viewfinder to show the numbers, with -20 clearly labelled. this is identical to other cameras in Sony's lineup. The line level input setting in the menu was set to +4. other options were (I believe) -10 and 0. Useful. I used the +4 and it was fine, although the output from my 633 and other SD units is nominally 0 (dbu?). didn't want to push my luck too much with messing with the menus this time around. Checked playback and all was good. Made backups anyway (non-TC synced as no add-on box on camera), but didn't need them. This camera is going to be the multi market leader for sure. Great price, well thought out, small and relatively lightweight. We are going to see a lot of these cameras in our work, which is fine with me
  13. This is a great thread. Thanks very much guys. Interesting to note that in the side view in the last set of pictures, there is a screw on cap with a chain that looks like the battery door cap on sounddevices units. The control knobs look like the Cantar pots too. Fine industrial design details that have been copied many times over the years.
  14. thanks Michael Mcqueen. good to know.
  15. I have an older Kata bag for my 302, and it was made in Israel. Not anymore i guess.
  16. I usually hand off my SD card to data wrangling and keeping the CF in the machine. It is harder to pop out the CF when the 633 is in the bag.
  17. Late to the party here, but I have had similar problems in the past with my older Denecke slate. it went back to the mothership and had an overhaul, including a new battery sled. Denecke couldn't reproduce the problem in their shop. The slate works fine now, 99.9% of the time, but now and then it loses sync mysteriously. Gremlins indeed. Not a big problem these days, as the camera usually has a lockit device on it. i should also add that I bought the slate used in 1999, upgraded to handle 23.98 a few years back. Doesn't owe me a dime. It is a great piece of gear.
  18. Great work. In the behind-the-scenes video of one of the on-stage segments, we see a boom op. tall guy with a beard doing the dance, Is that you? The mic appears to be a shotgun. What mikes did you use on the show? You guys deserve an award!
  19. timecode generated by GPS (or other universal timebase method). All parts of the chain in sync all the time. (this could be here already). Further development of spread-spectrum RF technology to better utilize bandwidth for wireless. There was a discussion some time ago on this forum about fibre optic microphone systems (already in use in extreme environments, military, avionics). No more cable rubbing on a hidden lav. fibre woven into wardrobe. Optical cloaking methods to hide lav mics in plain sight (or hide a boom operator). Improved battery technologies in the very near future for less weight, better run times.
  20. Shouldn't matter, but where are you inserting the SC 48-T adaptor? ie: between the mic body and the adaptor, or is the adaptor at the preamp end? The reason I ask about the cable is that T power, unlike phantom uses the ground wire (pin 1) in the powering scheme (I'm pretty rusty on this, so other group memners please correct me if I'm wrong). If there is a ground loose on the cable could be possible cause. just fishing here. try another cable?
  21. What converter did you use for the PH to T powering? I use the PSC "barrel" adaptor and it works very well/ Things to look out for: are your mic cables properly wired? are you providing 48volts for the phantom power? you don't mention what typr of preamp you are using as the front-end to your Pro-Tools rig. does the phantom power on yout preamp work with a regular P48 mic? A properly working 416 has a very hot signal,
