  1. thanks 480. intriguing stuff. and all along I've been rolling off 80hz as standard practice. No wonder I'm a godless heathen.
  2. Superscope? Hey Dejan. this mic looks vaguely familiar. the printing on the spec sheet looks kind of like the font used by Superscope products back in the 70s. Googled SUG1 but nothing came up.
  3. Nice work Adam. Portabrace is now back in the running for my next bag. I still use my AO-4 sometimes with my 442/744T setup for bag cart stuff. Bought it for my HHB Portadat/442 combo. Kinda big and heavy, but it's still in great shape after 13 years.
  4. the audio input switches look like the standard Canon setup. if you are using the G2 as the link I have found that it's sometimes better to use the mic ins and turn your TX output down to a mic level (-24? don't have one in front of me) AGC off. the line out from the G2 is not a hot level, and you have to crank the camera inputs up a lot to get suitable level. you should be fine. oh yeah, tape the pots down on the camera, maybe the switches too. This style of camera needs a lot of fiddling, and camera ops are often just as frustrated as sound folks with the damn thing and can easily hit the wrong switch or two.
  5. my 2 cents: get a mix-pre and a short hypercardioid mic (MKH50, etc.or something cheaper like an Oktava/Rode). the mixer will make your workflow much more flexible and much more in control. feed a cable to the main C100 (or both cameras). back it up on a Zoom (DR100, sony whatever). I'm guessing you are feeding video out of the camera via cable, so an added sound cable will be manageable (or, if you have the budget, get a Sennheiser G3 wireless system to feed sound wirelessly to a camera (the G3 could be useful with a lav mic too).. get someone to help you with the boom. give them headphones so they can hear what they are doing. A short pole is better for you in small rooms. Put mics on the cameras if you can, recorded on a separate track than the boom. For non-dialogue scenes, just stay out of everybody's way (maybe put a mic on a stand out of shot). +1 for what Phillip said about making the room less reverberant. Beds and pillows help to absorb sound and they can be in shot. If you are shooting in a bathroom, plant a mic and go read a book. good luck.
  6. Jim, I remember the PAIA. I didn't ever get one of their products, but i remember compulsively reading their catalogues. Were'nt they located in Oklahoma? My first synth was an ARP Oddysey. Wish I still had it. I loaned it to a guy I barely knew named Dave sometime in the early 80's. Never came back. Dave, where's my synth, man?
  7. time to upgrade from my Etherwave Standard Theremin. It's fun, but a very frustrating beast. Like the look of the new mini. very spaceage bachelor pad.
  8. Dominique, the Trew Audio website has Phonaks for rent at the Toronto store. Are you in Montreal? I don't know of any rental houses that carry Phonaks there.
  9. Hey rstl99, I'm in ottawa too. If you want to borrow my power supply or battery just let me know. Chris
  10. Hi Courtney. It looks like the quartet of monks is singing into a stereo pair of DPAs. The back to back pianos had some fancy mics and a nicely laid out bundle of cables running to the wall. I think it sounded great, especially as it was done live. some serious audio engineering going on. The only Zoom within a mile of this one was on the camera, I'm sure.
  11. ok lets hear some guesses. here's mine: LMb $850 LT $1100 receiver $1600.
  12. Here we go: I know the Lectro L series are not officially for sale yet, awaiting FCC approval, but... any guesses on price when they come out? Wysicom intro price at $4100 is awfully tempting. discuss.
  13. Long live the CBC! I just hope Tom Allen didn't get cut in the recent slash and burn at our national broadcaster. Thanks for this Jason.
  14. hi Al. yes, the provincial and federal taxes are combined and are processed by the feds. they then send the province it's share. saves vendors like me from having to remit tax collected to 2 different agencies. each province has different rates of sales tax.
  15. just FYI: in Canada we have GST (goods and sevices tax) which is Federal, plus provincial sales tax on goods and services. some provinces, like Ontario where I live have a combo tax: HST (harmonized sales tax) which is 13%. I charge customers HST on all work I do and send the money to the govt. I claim back all HST paid on the purchase of any Capital equipment. This is a simplification of course. anything to do with the government ain't simple. Canada has the flat rate scheme also. Any electronic gear manufactured in the US and imported into Canada is free of import duties. Unfortunately our dollar is in the shitter at the moment, trading at around 90 cents, so those Lectros do cost us more here.

    633 Bags

I'm curious too. there's been lots of discussion. Is there anyone who actually likes the portabrace offering that's bundled in the 633 kit?
  17. I think that is right on Geoff. In the meantime that Wisycom introductory price is pretty tempting. adding additional units when the honeymoon is over is another matter. Waiting for Lectro L series prices.
  18. I can't wait to see what pricepoint the Lectro L series will come in at. Will they be the 633 of pro wireless?
  19. $799 at B and H for the kit with the belt pack and 48v plug on.
  20. the recent wave of recorder/mixer combos (633, MAXX etc) have made it easy to record digital files painlessly and right in the box. I like your idea though. could be useful. the ZAX unit is great, but a simpler, possibly smaller and cheaper solution might have a place. like a USB stick sized device. going AES would be great, especially because you would be bypassing any recorder preamps, which are the limiting factor for quality in the Zooms, etc.
  21. same her. 16 is the highest I've seen.
  22. Hey Marc, maybe they could incorporate a "Cone of Silence" option. this tent kind of reminds me of the scene in Spinal Tap, where the bass player gets stuck in the "egg". all kidding aside, might be useful in mosquito season. hey,$30 canadian, thats about 50 cents in USD these days.
  23. thanks for the tapeop link. very interesting.
